Transforming OLD, DARK Furniture WITHOUT BLEACH

I often get asked why most of my pieces are dark. To be honest, I usually prefer dark woods and paint colours. But sometimes it's nice to lighten up. Doing a paint wash is a great way to still see the woodgrain in furniture but to give the piece a whole new look. This isn't a new concept at all (and I don't tend to follow a lot of trends anyway), but it's what I envisioned for this smaller piece so I'm sharing it with you!

I’m very much a dark wood girlie but the way the green neutralised that red was astonishing, although it’s basic colour theory, to actually see it truly neutralise it! It gave the wood a calming Scandinavian feel, I think. ☺️

The outside was amazing the scandinavian look with the colour and style was great blue me away how the red just disappeared. Not a fan of how the paper took it away from the scandi look and turned into 60s look. But it showcases your artistry for design. Well done x❤

Love the paper - gives it a funky, young feeling that it needed after the colourwash. Also really happy to see the odies adding a little bit of warmth and definition back to the grain (though that was probably still showing irl) But the reason I watch every video and try to comment every time is the kindness and respect you give to each and every piece, cheap chipboard or beautyful burl - every piece you touch lookes loved when it leaves your hands. Just a little FYI: I watch a channel unrelated to furniture where the host took a You Tube university course for her graduate degree in journalism and she learned a lot of the ins and outs of YT that are not commonly known. I tend to save those for the laminate pieces, or ones with pretty cheap species of veneer like birch. For things like mahogany and walnut, I'd rather just let the grain be the focus, but I definitely plan to do some more soon!

I don’t love or hate the cotton print paper; you needed something to make the interior of the piece less ominously dark. So I think it was a good choice. And I like the overall look. You’re right; neutral furniture is easier to live with than too much fancy veneer! Example: I have a pair of “Greek column” marble-topped end tables that are now the perfect bedside tables. I really don’t like green, but these are the original light neutral green as when bought by my mother in the late 60’s. They blend perfectly with our salmon-light green-light gold-off white color scheme from the eighties. In a townhome with windows on only two sides, a light pastel interior is easy to live with, so we’ve kept it since 1983!

My parents (I'm74) had a similar cabinet. They had music albums in the cabinet and a turn table on top. I can hear the sound of the sliding doors and remember some of the music played. Angie, you are right on time. Just yesterday, I was looking at a built-in pine corner cabinet that I use to store the towels for my bathroom. I've been wanting to lighten the color, like a milkwash, so it would blend in with the walls and trim. It has yellowed through the ages of my 98 year old house. I ACTUALLY wondered if I wrote to you in your comment section and asked for some advice and maybe a brief plan of action to take to lighten up the yellowed pine, if you would respond. Now I don't have to wonder. I watched this video. I kind of know what to do now. So thank you for this video. More than you know.
