It is time for the newest instalment in that beloved cinematic automotive KZbin experience where we film practical cars that can be bought for less than £1,000 in a manner befitting of their inexpensive value! This may go horribly wrong...
This time, as we test a 2001 Rover 75 2.0 V6 Connoisseur SE, we meet Mike Humble from AR Online, experience some swift driving, fight with the onslaught of darkness, talk about thermostat housings, get dates confused, and bathe in a warm glow of MG Rover nostalgia. Nothing untoward, then...

As an independent vehicle consultant, I take potential buyers through the whole car buying process from choosing a make and model to a vehicle handover and road tax. In addition to information on this service, I also have a selection of written and video reviews of cars that I have owned, hired, borrowed or have somehow come into my possession. Please use the Contact Me page on my website to get in touch, visit my Facebook page for latest updates and share this video if you like it! Thank you for watching.

Mike is a true enthusiast with a deep love and respect for the Rover Brand. This 75 Connoisseur is a beautiful car. Beautiful exterior and beautiful interior. You are quite right Sir that keeping on top of the maintenance will have these K Series engines running for hundreds of thousands of miles. MG Rover may have collapsed but they did save the absolute best until last.

Mike certainly does know these cars very well, and has a fantastic pre-Project Drive example. You do need to keep on top of the maintenance, but it can be most rewarding when one does... Glad you enjoyed the video!

Lovely lovely car…and…all the instrument pixels work! The 90’s / early 2000 Rovers definitely have a certain charm about them

Yes, the pixels do actually work in this one! I have had eight post-1990 Rovers, and currently own one a couple of years newer than this, so I think I agree with you about that.

This is a lovely example of a 75, initially I was looking for a pre facelift V6 75 like Mike's, the black leather I do prefer to my Sandstone interior but I do like it none the less. I am glad I bought mine, good community as well. Things to watch out are are make sure the plenium drains under the scuttle are clear and not blocked. Bonnet switches can play havoc with the alarm system as water gets into them (as I found out yesterday) Swimming pools can build up in the rear foot wells. Light seals on rear lights often fail. But aside from that these are cracking cars to own and I am glad i made the decision to buy one. Excellent review Sir, really appreciated seeing this.

Yes, good old plenum drains... There are numerous other issues with 75s and ZTs which Mike would be able to explain, but this video was long enough as it was. Your channel is also becoming a repository for Rover 75 information as well, Mr Watters, it would see!

Ive always liked the soft glow of those instruments set into the wood dash. This takes me back to the NEC when these cars launched all those years ago. The MG/Rover community in general seems a very friendly place with lots of knowledge available to help you of needed and I cam see the 75 will be no different. It's really nice to see these cars not being the beauty of all jokes but finally being appreciated as they rightly deserve to be.

Yes, they really worked hard on the materials and ambience of the interior. There are some really good groups out there for the 75 and ZT, you are absolutely right, just like the 45 and ZS.

We do like a Connoisseur SE, yes real wood MR Lloyd, you can tell by the airbag script on the passenger side, fake wood has a cut out and a little badge in place.

Thank you, sir! This pre-Project Drive car certainly exuded quality and was surprisingly punchy as well, despite being the smaller of the two KV6s.

@@lloydvehicleconsulting Very good it's a credit to the owner, yes fit and finish is far more superior over later cars. Incidentally I was sitting in my girlfriends BMW 1 Series MK1, I was tapping and pressing the trim plastics and switches when I was waiting for her, all felt very cheap and hollow, especially around the heater controls, non digital air-con model incidentally.

I see this is well cared for example. I feel that if you look after a car the car will look after you. I do love the warm glow from the IP. The rear seat looks like it has never been sat in. Wonderful review! And thank you to the owner who allowed you to review and drive this exquisite example of a Rover 75.

Mike knows more about these cars than most of us, and he has had a few of them, so it is in very good mechanical condition. I was glad we eventually managed to film this one!

Good evening Mr Lloyd, once again a lovely review sir, I think you maybe having a bad influence on myself! As the more I see these lovely rovers the more I think I could be persuaded to own one myself! Again thank you for great review of lovely car.

I prefer the 45s myself (probably biased as I own one), but these are now fast becoming classics, despite a few issues, some of which we covered in the video. More Rovers coming up soon!

These pre-Project Drive cars are the most desirable (apart from the V8), and Mike does look after this one.

This car has the real wood as the airbag sign isn't in a plaque but painted on the panel. Indeed very rare early Longbridge car (the 2.0 V6 probably also gives it away). Going to look at another early pre-project drive Longbridge 2.0 V6 manual car (but lower spec) soon, who knows, might ended up in one after years of researching!

Well, I hope you enjoyed the video! Yes, a rare specification, and Mike loves it (so do I, of course). The 2.0 KV6 engines do sound lovely, and this had lots of nice optional extras.

It's a beautiful car, inside and outside. Which is the most reliable engine in the Rover 75 stable? By the way, the forward view without the camera mount was great! The owner also contributed such great comment and so thanks to him.

Yes, I got Mike to drive, as he is an expert in these cars. Normally, I am filming alone, and so that is not possible. In terms of the most reliable engine....probably the Ford V8! The AR Online website is an incredible resource of information about the British Motor Industry from 1952 to the present day as well as some foreign manufacturers, and Mike has contributed a lot to it.
