Since my divorce raising four kids myself after being married to an abusive man who left me with little but the kids, we buy NOTHING. 12 years of subsistence living. But, no one complains. I am so so grateful for my wonderful, now grown kids. My kids so appreciated that while we were poor, we didn't have to live in terror. The love I lavished on them, they give right back. It really puts everything in perspective when living without daily fear and anxiety makes you feel rich. Peace and safety are the most priceless commodities. I appreciate just enjoying what you have and making the most of everything.

When all 5 of my children were still home and money was tight every summer we would make two lists. One list was of all the free or very cheap fun things we could do like beach picnic, $1 movie, hikes with friends. The other was a project list divided into three columns: first was free projects or projects we already had the supplies for, the second was everything that we could do for about $10us each, the third was projects that cost $20us or more. We usually got the first list finished, did the most important of the middle list, and did one or two of the third list. Some items were on the list for a few years before they got done but it was a good way to focus on what we could do instead of what we couldn't.

I like that a lot. We do something similar with my young family. We have lollipop sticks with free and cheap fun ideas written on- all sorts from make a table blanket fort, make cards and post them to loved ones, cinema, local cheap aquarium etc. We also have higher ticket items that get added at an appropriate moment. The children get to contribute their ideas which are usually the most fun. I like your idea with projects especially around the house.

I woke up thinking I needed help knocking out some mounting home maintenance. I wrote it all out, and it is a good decision, better to do it now, as things may only get worse, and none of them are "optional." Life is like that! I am postponing my no-spend cycle to September, while I get those things taken care of. They are impeding my progress mentally, physically, and financially. I am so grateful for sinking funds. * You set a great example of how to balance out needs/wants and available money, with a focus on future financial health. All of that is so valuable during these difficult times.

I started my "savings journey" in July of last yr, heard for the first time about "no spend days, weeks" I never realized that I had been doing this already by having "no spend weekends". So I decided to have "no spend months" n how long I could do this. Happy to say that I had a almost "no spend year". I still managed to save around $4000 in that year span. So happy with myself. Jane! I'm doing my very first ever no spend month, thanks to you! I hadn't exactly planned on doing it though. We are on a strict budget (working on student loan debt) anyways, but my side job as a bartender~ I only got 2 shifts each week, in lieu of 3 shifts, this month. So losing that extra "spare" income it just makes sense to do! I am very excited to come up with some creative meals while cleaning out the freezers (yes, we have 4 😮😅) and working on home projects that I always find an excuse not to do 🤪

All because of your channel, I learned about no buy months. We did our first and very successful no buy month in January. It feels like a sense of accomplishment. Now we are on a no spend July. It is a fun challenge to be very intentional about where we go and what we do. It's a great time to do stuff that needs to be done at home, and that is always a long list. You might as well stop putting it off and just jump in! Thank you for all the great ideas. It's nice to see people our age being frugal and not just extravagant!😊

It's refreshing to watch your honest video about this topic. I've watched others over the years where they claim to have a no spend, but they can only do it because they already pre bought everything and more the month before. Your way is true, honest, reasonable, and doable. I have tried to do a no spend, but I have a family to support. So what I do is make sure the bills are paid, $$ in savings, pre plan for future large bills etc., and give myself a per diem. with what's left. This has worked for me for many years. Some days I spend almost nothing so that just adds to the next day or the rest of the days until pay times comes around again, which is once a month. I do find myself spending much less in January, which makes sense because of the holidays. Have a lovely week ahead 🥰💐🪷🌼🌞💗✝💖🇺🇲

We do December and January as our no buy months. Lat year we added February as well. I limited groceries to $50 a month maximum and most months were under $20. It helps me rotate through my canning jars, and my freezer.

Wonderful video as usual 😉 My months run from the 20th to the 20th. I already have hardly any discretionary spending as I am saving an emergency fund etc while on a ( hopefully temporary😅) minimal income. But... for July I intend to eat only out of my freezer and pantry. Except for some eggs and butter I still need to buy. I did do a load of mostly non food groceries yesterday. But food wise I should be good. My freezer needs to be defrosted so I can do that beginning of August. Hopefully I will have €100 left of my grocery budget at the end of this month. Saving up for an old bike because my cargo bike has become too old for longer city trips. I do have a small sinking fund for relaxation and therefor I can attend a distillation workshop (€5) in the middle of July. Nice to have something to look forward to while not spending extra €€

@@FrugalQueeninFrance never got a driver's license. For me that bike was my car for 19 years... as a solo mom with 2 little boys it gave my family a lot of freedom. It would fit the boys and their little bikes , picknick cooler bags etc in there. Later their soccer and swimming gear, guitar for music lessons etc etc. I even did most of our move to this apartment in 2008 in that bike😅 Now it is an old lady. I used it on a long trip in February to the nearest farmer from Amsterdam where I bought 5 kg good quality meat. But she was puffing and squeaking. Time for her to retire. And to be honest; I would love to own an electric bike so I could leave the city for trips in the country. A little dog carrier to take my labrador and a tent... But a sturdy ebike is around €2500... a bit too ambitious for now. So saving up for a second hand bike for around €200.

Hi Jane and Mike. I am doing a no buy July. It seems I try to do 3 or 4 no spend months a year. I make a calendar for the month and put a big green check mark on every day I stick to it. I write my goals and guidelines on it. My reasons for this month are similar to other months: To reset spending; Save for emergencies; Adjust for the smaller paycheque of not much overtime at work. I list my "no buys" and my exemptions. Alway at the top of the page is written: Aggregation of marginal gains, and this year's word: PERSIST. I am not a big drinker, but I do indulge occasionally. I am also having a dry July.

We had to move into a hotel for two months then take our RV to a local campground and lived there until June 1. So basically 4 months of huge money challenges. We were able to move back into our home, on the family farm. Wow! Not being "in town" and having a full kitchen, washer and dryer and the big freezer has really helped with many no spend days! We need to regain funds as well so we have a big motivator there. It has been a record setting June for lower esin amounts and cooler weather here in Southern Colorado so its greener than usual and just lovely to stay home and remember the simple pleasure of being here.

It's forcing me to be creative which has been fun - unlike that pond! Love quilting and sewing. Really admire you. Our local quilt shop is having a big anniversary sale July 5,6,7. So I can’t do a no buy July. I’ll do a no buy August.

Due to the smoke from wildfires here in Ontario, Canada, I have had to purchase an air conditioner and an air purifier for my apartment. So, in order to replenish my emergency fund I have decided not to do my usual summer roadtrip. After a bit of research, I have found lots of free concerts and activities in my little town, so staying home and not spending should work out fine! I like the idea of not spending in the last week of the month, so I think I will try that too.

Sorry to hear that

I didn’t know you made a quilt each month. Do you sell them or gift them? I asked before if you quilted for hire but didn’t get an answer. I am a quilter but only quilt for myself, close friends, and family. Right now I’m working on a “sweet mint” quilt my youngest daughter requested.

@@FrugalQueeninFrance no one said anything about racing. I’m just really surprised

@@K78644 I don’t see why you’re surprised, you watched our shopping haul and commented that our groceries were expensive. Which country do you live in.

Omg, doesn't that pond attract mosquitoes and isn't it rather unhealthy considering that it isn't moving water just still stagnant water..no judgments just not understanding 😮
@FrugalQueeninFrance Жыл бұрын
It's spring fed. It's not there by design. All insects are part of the eco system. No need to panic.
@vicki900 Жыл бұрын
@@FrugalQueeninFrance I do understand insects are part of the eco system but I would imagine that you can do a bit of research and mosquitoes are a huge problem
