A psychiatric study of 400 movies to find the most realistic psychopath concluded Anton Chigurh of "No Country for Old Men" was the most realistic psychopath ever in film. "Chigurh approaches murder with an uncanny sense of normalcy, perfectly happy to use his trademark bolt pistol without so much as a wince. He seems to be effectively invulnerable and resistant to any form of emotion or humanity" .

4:03 Captive bolt gun. Instead of the bullet flying away like a regular gun it has a bolt that pops out a few inches then goes back into the handle. They're used for stunning cattle at slaughterhouses. A human skull is thinner so it's likely to go right through the skull.

The scene were Chigurh is hiding in the room and the Sheriff decides to not go in and check is the climax of the movie. He knew Chigurh was in there, but instead of "doing the right thing" and trying to apprehend him, he decides to save his own life instead and walk away. Him quitting his job later is in reference to that moment and to the title of the movie, the desert is "no country for old men"

I don't even think it's the desert as much as it is the time they find themselves in. Ed Tom Bell finds himself more and more in a time he no longer understands. Anton Chigurh is essentially a force of nature that Sheriff Bell can't comprehend, and he decides he no longer wants to try.

Sir, I have to say that your reaction videos are some of the funniest things I have ever seen in my entire life. I cannot watch more than a few minutes at a time because the muscles in the back of my head hurt from laughing so much. I have also had to start wearing adult diapers when I watch your videos, because the convulsive laughter cause "accidents" to occur, so thank you for that. As to your query at the beginning of this video regarding a new action figure: since you already have Batman and Wonder Woman displayed, I suggest you finish out the trinity with Superman. Or Hellboy. Or Ultraman. Actually, all three on your headstand would be, as the young people say today, groovy. Keep up the great work!

That air compressor thing you were asking about that the crazy guy had, is what slaughter house workers use to quickly kill cows and pigs before they get processed. A 5 or 6 inch spike shoots out and back in super fast. It goes right into the animals brain, killing it instantly. It’s actually a very humane way of dispatching an animal.

You get a hint of Anton's thinking in the novel. In the scene with Carla Jean he has several more lines of dialog, which they should have put in the movie. Basically he said that everything can be traced back to one decision in the past. Everything else came from that decision. The accounting is exact. This is how it is and it can be no other way, so why be upset about it?

I found my copy of the novel. Here is the exchange, edited a bit for brevity, so spoilers... Anton: For things at a common destination there is a common path. Not always easy to see. But there. Carla Jean: (edit) I couldn't have guessed none of this. You wouldn't let me off noway. Anton: I had no say in the matter. Every moment in your life is a turning and every one a choosing. Somewhere you made a choice. All followed to this. The accounting is scrupulous. The shape is drawn. No line can be erased. I had no belief in your ability to move a coin to your bidding. How could you? A person's path through the world seldom changes and even more seldom will it change abruptly. And the shape of your path was visible from the beginning. Carla Jean: You don't have to do this. Anton: (He shook his head) You're asking that I make myself vulnerable and that I can never do. I have only one way to live. It doesn't allow for special cases. A coin toss perhaps. In this case to small purpose. Most people don't believe that there can be such a person. You can see what a problem that must be for them. How to prevail over that which you refuse to acknowledge the existence of. Do you understand? When I came into your life your life was over. It had a beginning, a middle, and an end. This is the end. You can say things could have turned out differently. That they could have been some other way. But what does that mean? They are not some other way. They are this way. You're asking that I second say the world. Do you see? Carla Jean: I truly do. Anton: That's good.

@@J_EOMReacts I would suggest finding it at a library or the like. The author has an unusual writing style in this novel. Not much punctuation and common devices aren't there. It makes for cleaner, more streamlined writing, but it can be hard to follow at times, until you get used to it. So if you borrow it you won't have the worry of having spent money on it. Then if you like it, you can always buy a copy.
