In this video you'll learn how to use "no doubt" in English. It's a confusing expression because there can be doubt in no doubt: We explain with examples of usage and compare it to other ways to express certainly such as "without doubt" or "without a shadow of a doubt"
Intermediate and advanced English lessons with subtitles on our youtube channel. Brought to you by LetThemTalk language school in Paris.

I watch your videos a lot, cuz you do a good job of making me aware of distinctions in grammar and usage in my own first language; but I am frequently struck by the small idiomatic differences between British and American English. I feel like in American English, 'no doubt' covers arrange, depending on context, between 60% certain to 100% certain. I frequently use 'no doubt' to express total certainty, but on the other hand I would very rarely use without a doubt (although i would use without a shadow of a doubt)

NOTHING to do with this video lad. I just popped in with a thought. Have you ever done one on odd "pasts"? e. g. WHY F. F. S. isn't the past tense of Seek = seeked, or buy = buyed, with others 🤔 - "no doubt? 😊

In Italian we use "senza dubbio" which also means there's actually a doubt. What's more we use "senza ombra di dubbio" which also means without a shadow of a doubt. 😊

@LetThemTalkTV
@LetThemTalkTV 7 жыл бұрын
It has the opposite meaning. "No doubt he'll want breakfast in the morning" means "I think he'll probably want breakfast...." "I doubt he'll want breakfast" = I think probably not....maybe because he doesn't normally eat breakfast.
