@thatsrich94411 ай бұрын
@@scott8xxx532 I was the only one I personally knew that was online in the mid-80's. I was 10 years old, so I didn't know that many people. Very few people had cell phones and really didn't carry them since they were primarily bag phones used in vehicles. Of course they were just phones, no cameras, no texting. But a lot of people carried still film cameras and some had camcorders that recorded on VHS tapes, which is how this was probably recorded. Even I had a video camera. Video and audio files, even still images were too large for the bandwidth at the time. I connected at 300 baud (0.3kb/sec), which was a speed that started around 1962. At that speed it took over 5 hours to send a mere 5mb of data. But, devices capable of sending text messages over teletype printers came about in the 1880's. Im sure they were cost prohibitive to end consumers.

My friend did an interview with Gwen, and we got to hang out, just four of us at a table for 20 minutes. The show was seriously maybe 60 people, and 20 of us to see ND! Amazing what they accomplished. The band snuck us in to another show the following year at First Ave"Prince famous club" as we were still under age. Good times!

I was a member of the UH Student Program Board that set up this and all the other concerts at UH from 1991-1997 or so. This was a fun one. As far as not allowing the filming, that was part of the performance agreement. The University paid for them to play, but not for them to be filmed. That costs extra. We booked so many awesome bands at UH then, between the individual concerts at the UC and the satellite, and the Perpetual Park Parties that were 12 hour fests in Lynn Eusan Park. Good times.

Your comment made me remember something that happened to me. Back in the mid to late 80's I was supposed to go to California to visit a friend. This friend bought 2 tickets to a concert with a band who was just starting to get real attention. That band was The Red Hot Chili Peppers. I wasn't able to make the trip. Shortly after I was talking to him on the phone and I asked how the concert was. He said the Chili Peppers were great, as expected. Then he told me the 2 opening bands, that nobody had ever heard of, were also great and he said both of them were going places. Those 2 opening bands were Pearl Jam and Nirvana. In 1978 I was in Dallas for the 1st Texxas Jam. This was the 1st of what was supposed to be a huge annual event. Ted Nugent, Heart, Aerosmith, Journey and Head East were the "big names" that I went to see. But I'll never forget one of the opening bands. "Texas, give a big welcome. From Los Angeles, California. Van Halen!!!!!" I had never heard of them before that.

Gwen Stefani didn't audition for No Doubt, she was one of the founding members. Her older brother Eric started No Doubt but left just as they started to get attention. He had other things he wanted to pursue. So, Gwen Stefani is the only person who's been with the band since the very start. Get this, in the beginning she was the backup vocalist. They had a male lead vocalist who committed suicide. They almost broke up but decided to move on. They found a new lead vocalist, another male, but he left. That's when Gwen took over the vocals. Even though Eric Stefani no longer performed with the band, he still contributed to their music. He's credited with several of their better songs.
