On drawing in general: there’s an order to tip placement you might wanna try following. Prioritize rolling the ball (high ball) when you can for position, then roll with spin, then stun, then stun with spin, then draw, then draw with spin. Keep in mind the priority of these shots depend on what you can do at a higher percentage for the shot you’re on. Play your percentages. Sometimes drawing with outside going 1 rail is better than slamming and zig zagging the cueball 2 or 3 rails without draw. It’s all about percentages. If draw accomplishes it better, then draw the ball. On breaking: you’re playing triangle rack 1 on the spot 9 ball on a barbox. The PLP is template rack 9 on the spot big table. They’re drawing the ball cause they’re cutting the 1 from inside the break box and need the cueball to come back towards the pack off the long rail- not because drawing the ball is good for breaking. On the contrary, most of the time it’s not good for breaking. I have a video coming out soon on a 1 on the spot break while drawing the ball but you must be using a template rack. Breaking is a passion of mine- reach out if you have questions.
@SenseiNatePlaysPool7 ай бұрын
For this format, you should break from the side rail, cueball about a ball or so off the rail. Smack the 1 ball dead full with half a tip of top spin to hold the cueball in place. With a tight rack, you’ll make the same side wing ball in the corner, and the 1 ball goes 3 rails around and comes to rest for shape in the corner you’re breaking from. I guarantee, in this format, the pros are not drawing from the middle of the table while breaking. They’re gonna do the break I mentioned- EVERY TIME.

From BCA rules: If a player pockets any ball on a legal shot, he remains at the table for another shot, and continues until he misses, fouls, or wins the game.

Enjoying this video. With regards to Jayson's break at the PLP, the World Nineball Tour events have changed the rules for the break, in that it has to be within the break box and the 9 is on the spot instead of the 1. This means they all use a "cut-break" trying to make the 1 in the side and they stun the cue ball off the side rail to try to keep it in the middle of the table. With the 1 on the spot it's a little easier to make the wing ball in the corner, especially if you can break from the side rail. A little more old-school.

The only real differences between APA 9 ball rules and official 9 ball are the point system and lack of push after the break. To make the 7 ball drop after making the 9 ball you have to put bottom on the cue ball, which induces top (follow) on the object ball. Remember that the spin induce throw is opposite of the spin you put on the cue ball.

Few things...you keep going back to your commentary...I think it's fire man. You have a calm and smooth delivery. You're seriously rocking it so keep it up. As for ads...KZbin shows ads on all videos these days. They were on yours before you were monetized. I say don't sweat it. It's part of life on the Tube lol. Also, certainly there were shots in this match where you desperately wanted to play bottom...and you said as much. I can think of one where you hammered it and achieved your shape. I understand that the camera angle might be deceiving but I think you had enough angle to play top and your result was proof of that. Try to have this mindset as you incorporate top and make your stroking options more diverse...think of the rails as speed buffers. Each time the cue ball touches a rail its power is diminished. Therefore you can use rails to control cue ball speed as it travels. It's a different mindset than when you're playing bottom. Keep going my friend...

The five-ball bank at 24 mins, I think that needs low inside and ALOT of speed. There's a finesse version too. Also, slow drag-draw puts forward spin on the object ball to have it follow in after a ball in the pocket (provided the angle is right). A nice tool to have for overly defensive 8-ball players.
@mikestuckey7 ай бұрын

Just FYI, BCA 8 ball is a called pocket game. In APA 8 ball slop is allowed. In 9 ball, slop is always allowed regardless of ruleset, even in professional play. Also, regarding the bank shot on the 5, you are correct. More speed makes the object ball come back straighter off the rail. I think you would have made it just by hitting it a bit harder. Nice shooting. Keep up the good work.

Bank at the top of 24:00 To avoid a double kiss, you have to aim to bank the 5 past the side pocket while adding check side to tighten the bank up. I think this gives the cue ball enough of an angle to get out of the way while sending the 5 ball toward the pocket.

You played really well, as did Princess. On your break, bottom is not why you’re breaking well. It’s due to squarely hitting the 1 ball. English has NO effect until the cue ball hits a rail. In fact, adding bottom on the break increases your chance of scratching in the side pocket (14:15). In the first rack, BIH shot on the 2, more of a back cut angle widens the rebound off the side rail sending you towards the 3, and avoids hooking behind the 4. In the third rack, BIH on the 8, place the cue one diamond up so you have an inbound angle. Use high inside English and send the cue ball two rails towards the 9. You avoid a scratch potential, and you get all the room/angle you need to get off the rail.

You mentioned watching Jayson Shaw break with bottom side English. That’s because he’s playing 9 on the spot and from the break box.its not as effective with 1 on the spot. They use that approach to make the 1 in the side, and send cue ball off side rail back into the stack to carom the 9. Avoid using too much bottom with 1 on the spot.

Sorry, but there are times for draw imho. Your shot at 13:40, try putting the ball about the second diamond, about two balls off the shot rail for angle, apply low right (5 o’clock); brings the cue ball toward the third diamond on the long rail, speed obviously is a key but anything in the direction of the third diamond gives you a shot on the 9.

I get the gist of the idea of playing a whole match with no draw, but in reality it needs to be a shot you have in your bag at any given time so to not properly use it where needed, like at 16:40 to get from the 4 to 5, is a worse idea. You had a good opportunity to stun the cue down for a better position on the 5 using bottom left, but instead compensated with a ton of top which left you in a worse position. Also, I just heard you say "I'm not getting better by playing league nights", which is probably true. League matches aren't for getting better, they're for playing your game using your shots that you know. You're only going to get better by practicing with better players who A) you trust and B) are comfortable helping to teach you by playing countless matches and communicating openly with you. I'm an SL5 in 8 ball and play with another good 5 who's been playing years longer than me, a good 6 who has a long bar shooting background and mentality, and a really good 6 who's been playing forever who I might be able to beat 10-20% of the time. My game play has dramatically improved over the past year just from playing with them almost every weekend, on top of Monday league where we are always talking about our play, even in between innings. It also helps to have your own table and I have hundreds of games on mine over the past few years, but it wasn't until I really started paying attention and talking to higher level players where I truly started to realize gains.

So by 'slop' you're referring to fluking a ball? And in APA, 8 ball flukes are allowed but in 9ball they're not?! Interesting.

Slop is allowed in all 9 ball

I know haha. I almost scrapped the whole video when I realized I said that. I had the WORST time exporting it, took a whole day so i’m just letting all the mistakes fly with this one haha!

thx man. yea I forgot it was 9 ball I was playing. we play both 8 and 9 on these league nights and I was thinking about 8 ball at the moment I said that. was NOT going to redo the whole commentary take to fix it. haha! thx for the correction though!

You should not use draw on your break. You should use about 70% top. You want the Q ball to end up in the middle of the table as much as possible.
