Also very important, do not go all the way down. Impact and force goes to your knees and can lead to injuries in the future. Recommend going to a 90° angle as any lower is harder (muscle wise).
@Umbrellagasm
@Umbrellagasm 10 ай бұрын
Its good to go slow, but if you're training to absorb impact from a fall, you're going to have to bend your legs past 90°
@tebatray
@tebatray 10 ай бұрын
@@Umbrellagasm yes but if you are new to this and dont train much than going past 90° almost always leads to full extension. Leading to injuries in the future. But if you are training getting used to going past it is a must. But at that point you should be rolling and absorbing impact instead.
@uvewott2243
@uvewott2243 4 ай бұрын
Please stop with the 90° bullshit. I'd love to see you do an at least 250cm drop without bending past 90°. Its the other way around- not bending all the way will cause damage since you barely have any range of motion to absorb the impact. I've known countless people absolutely wreck their knees by trying to not bend past 90°. Build up the required strenght, master the technique of actually absorbing the impact and please don't spread harmful misinformation

you're not meant to let your hips drop below your knees, if you keep your hips higher then your thighs will take the impact but if you drop too low it all goes to the knees.

Good advice for beginners, but once you know how to move well and have basic strength, training full range of motion makes for stronger and less injury prone joints, as long as you do it carefully and gradually over time. Some really great arguments for deep squat out there.

I'm a rickety about to be 50 yo who's working on my flexibility. Oddly enough, I've always thought the 'correct way' to stretch was incorrect because I always thought why would my arm go for that far back if it wasn't meant to go that far back? So I've often done stretches like you show but not for long periods. My favorite things to do are the sissy squat exercises and I Asian squat in front of people 😂 most people say "I could never do that!"

David I have an important question 🙋‍♀️. If your tendons are stiff, will you still be able to be balerina/contortionist level flexible? Will training my tendon stiffness decrease my flexibility? I have another (unrelated) question. I have hyper mobility syndrome and I wander wether I can do anything to make my lax joint capsule stronger. I’m very concerned with injury prevention and longevity of my joints and I want to know wether there is anything I can do to take good care of my joints. Will the exercise from this video make my joints stronger? Note: I don’t want to strengthen the muscles, I want to strengthen my joints! Once upon a time, a physical therapist gave me exercises to strengthen the muscles that support my knee because, according to her, this would help me… But she made my hyper mobility worse, because now my muscles are so strong that they pull my knee further into hyperextension everytime I straighten my knee!!!😭😭 So do you know wether/how I can strengthen my joints? Thanks so much! Your videos are a godsend!❤❤
@MovementbyDavid
@MovementbyDavid Жыл бұрын
Yes you absolutely can still be flexible with stiff tendons! “Stiffness” just means your tendons are stronger and more springy. The best thing you can do for your hyper mobility is strength training. Check out @whealth on Instagram for great hypermobility advice and content!

@@MovementbyDavid hyper flexible? Is this what I’m likely dealing with? I can touch the floor with a flat hand… but hamstring, back, well everything feels tight still. Same with the head,shoulders, back, and butt against a wall… then raising arms. I can do this without anything coming off the wall - but again, everything feels tight. My favourite & worse one is I can put my knees in my armpits - but gluts & hip flexors are so tight. I’m 54, sat too much for my work. I was a gymnast in my youth, then body builder in my young adult years.
