No Game No Life was an isekai anime that dropped in 2014. Back then, it filled the SAO induced void in my heart and it's still pretty good so I'mma talk about it.

The fact that this anime immediately erases any possibilities of fighting is such a genius move. It immediately erases the possibilities of cheap power scaling and being OP through the standard isekai method of super duper awesome unique MC cheat blessing and instead actually has the main characters be clever and intelligent, with the conflicts being interesting and creative games instead of just generic and repeated action scenes.

@@ScamboliReviews yeah, imposing limits on shows and movies, be they creatively or budget wise, can honestly improve it way so much, since now you have to think of creative ways to overcome these issues that you honestly just wouldn’t even bother to think about if you have 100% freedom.

@@ScamboliReviews Counterpoint: none of its clever, it just has the facade of being clever. They never win because they had a better strategy that exploited the game rules, the games rules were all made up on the spot to dig the characters out of the hole they'd been writen into. After sticking around for Shiritori, which was good, the nail in the coffin was the final game. The action was fun but the solution was crap and the explanation was crap. If you can imagine it as being the mc being isekai'd into so much debt he has to play games for the amusement of a paying audience, Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor is superior in everyway except cameltoe.

I didn't binge any other show, but I did multiple times for this one. 2. @@superzolosolo sure reality is a game that matters but that doesn't mean it's not a shitty game. @@TheUlquiorraCifer i really don't get how anyone can expect anything fantastical to come from reality, where do you get that hope? i wish more than anything for magic to be real and i would love to be proven wrong one day but here's why i can't believe magic exists. Nothing in this world exists without affecting something else. If magic existed then it would need magical energy to power it and this energy would undoubtedly have effects on the local plants or wildlife but even with the whole planet mapped and constant satellite footage and planes flying everywhere such a place has never been reported. If the energy comes from humans then there should be some side effects differentiating a magical animal like humans from other animals but there's nothing. Humans are not the fastest, the strongest, most durable, longest lived, humans like to think they're the smartest because of their ego but the truth is humans just got lucky with the right combination of intelligence, thumbs, cooperative ability and decent life/healthspan.
@superzolosolo
@superzolosolo Жыл бұрын
@@knightacedia You really do take what you have for granted huh? Reality is the most realistic game with the best physics engine, best dialog system, best interactivity, etc, etc ever created. Do you ever wonder why npc's in videogames or side characters in anime rarely care about magic, or monsters or any of those things? It's because they've gotten used to it. They've taken it for granted. And so have you my good sir, the amount of insane things we take for granted is ridiculous, for example: electricity, magnetism, gravity, physics itself, things humans have made like computers, technology, houses, the stock market, the economy in general. It doesn't seem like a big deal, but these things would've blown minds if shown to people a 1000, or even just 100 years ago. They would've believed it was real magic! These days we dont have wizards and sorcerers, but we do have engineers and programmers, if you want to learn modern magic, pick up a c# book and get to it! Life is an incredibly unique experience (in fact, you could say its once in a lifetime!) but instead of feeling sorry for ourselves we really should make the most of it.

I remember No Game No Life was one of the first anime I both watched and started my passion for the medium. The insane and wacky solutions to all of their challenges was truly a unique experience that I never found in T.V. shows or movies I watched while growing up. Your absolutely right about that isekai itch or fundamental satisfaction. Anyone who stumbles onto this comment who is looking for an isekai that actually feels like another world, I would recommend checking out: Now and Then, Here and There. Compared to No Game No Life it is ancient, coming out in 1999. But don't let the older animation hold you back, it more than makes up for it in the compelling narrative and drama. Though fair warning, it is for a much more mature audience and covers intense topics that might be uncomfortable for some.

Honestly, the insane and "wacky" solutions to all their challenges was a turn off for me because they were supposed to be intelligent but they keep pulling wins out of their arse that made zero sense. I expected death note levels of intellect but I did not get that. At least the opening song pretty damn awesome.

I watched No Game No Life back in the day. My teenage self thought, "Dang, that was gay as hell. I can't wait for Season 2." By today's standards, yeah the show is lacking, but back then it was unique and a fun watch. I think if we actually got more seasons with even more little girls, it might have aged more favourably.

I remembered NGNL as a good time Now that you made me rewatch it, I honestly think you're underselling it Seriously, it's so ridiculously good, and the movie further builds the lore up in a way you wouldn't except for a game anime. The author clearly has a serious vision and deep world he came up with and adheres to the lore while telling the story of special people who at first appear to be character archetypes, just to be more real and fleshed out than honestly 90% of other anime characters. The "game" part is equally on par if you ask me, if a little plot convenient at time. Easy 9/10, arguably 10/10

I watched this just last year, and it didn’t quite hit for me. What I liked most were the stakes. 「 」 could bet the clothes off their back for some money and turn that into owning their own kingdom. That was what kept me interested. The games themselves were imaginative, but honestly quite contrived. They were always made with loopholes that only became apparent when convenient to turn the tide of the battle in Sora’s favor. I’m not a fan of this style of storytelling-it feels like a Sherlock Holmes novel where they withhold key information until the reveal to keep the reader from easily guessing what’s going to happen. While I wouldn’t call this show a masterpiece either, I like Kakegurui’s gambling style a lot better. Usually the games are rigged by the opponents, and Yumeko strips down the way that the opponent is cheating to gain an advantage of her own. Even though she has gambling hax like Sora, her victories feel a bit more reasonable, and the audience can sort of play along. Plus Yumeko’s goal is not to win-just to keep gambling, so the story doesn’t have to keep bending in ways to make her win.

I think that's intentional. He basically outright states it to the viewers in the last episode. He looks at the camera (cat girl) and goes something like, "Didn't it feel good? Knowing no matter what you did, you never even had a chance to win?" They were always going to win in some contrived way. No matter what you thought they could do, it would always be something out of left field, dumb, fun, and stupidly entertaining.
@luckylucas8596
@luckylucas8596 Жыл бұрын
@@DevI-vl7gp Even if it’s intentional that Sora wins no matter what, it doesn’t make me like the contrivance any more. The stakes are still diminished knowing that Sora will win no matter what. On the flip side, I really like One Punch Man despite having the same premise that the protagonist can never lose. I think there are two key differences between OPM and NGNL that explain why I like OPM more. 1) No opponent is ever presented as a formidable threat to Saitama. He always beats them quickly without any doubt. That makes the results funny because of how pitifully weak the opponents are compared to Saitama. Sora’s enemies (except for Stephanie) are always presented as formidable threats. He is always in a (seemingly) losing position before he comes out on top. It makes the comeback scenes less and less impactful with each game. Plus, since Sora and the opponent are presented as close matches, I don’t find the results as funny-the exception being when Sora demolishes Stephanie at every game in the 5th? episode. 2) Other than fights in OPM and games in NGNL, I find OPM’s characters and downtime situations funnier. Subjectively, I find Saitama struggling to swat a mosquito way funnier than Sora ogling the females characters. In short, I think there’s either a problem Sora never really having a chance to lose or that the show presents the games in too serious a manner. Of course, a lot of my argument is based on how I subjectively feel about these kinds of narratives, so somebody else could not care as much about these elements of the show and find it way funnier than I do.
