Attention No Gi grapplers and wrestlers - today’s Martial Arts Monday episode is for you! Judoka have always known that throwing an opponent is a powerful skill, but UFC and MMA have shown the world how important it is to have a strong throwing game. Although we wear a uniform in Judo, a lot of the techniques can be done without it, and many of our students train in Gi and No Gi in order to be fully rounded fighters. Today, we are going to showcase three incredibly effective NO GI Judo throws that every wrestler and grappler should have in their arsenal! Check it out to learn more!

The International Judo Federation should recognize a No Gi Judo Competitive category just like BJJ. It would modernize Judo and make it more practical.

Naw.. Judo throws are difficult enough with the gi; without the gi there will be little to no action as escapes will be a lot easier

@@subzero6190 Judo is practical with or without gi. Understand, Judo was made to fight with or without it. Kano made his younger students train without gi before they trained with gi. Also those throws are made for no gi.

I did a flying makikomi in bjj competition had my righ grip deep on the back and he ducked under my arm trying to rotate around me to take my back but I just let him rotate to my back and timed my makikomi as he was walking behind me turned my hip in the air he landed dricetly on his shoulder legs straight in the air the rolled onto his back and I pushed my hip in and got the kesa gatami position

It's good to know a variety of techniques, how to employ and counter them. However, I would rather be really good at and effective with one technique than mediocre at 60. Particularly for self defense and beginners.

@@davidmartinez7194 I disagree. You should be great with more than one technique . You become predictable and it can be countered. Back in my tang soo do days, one person had a devastating jumping side kick but depended on it too much. I sparred with him and stayed very close to him and he didn’t know what to do.

As a wrestler, I’m really intrigued by makikomi. How risky is it since you’re exposing so much of your back? It also reminds me of a Peterson roll in wrestling, except it’s standing

Thanks for watching! I threw wrestlers with it all the time back when I was on the wrestling team in school. It just depends on how fast your attack is, your ability to commit to the execution of the throw, and of course hours and hours of practice. It might not work 100% of the time, but it’s still a great addition to any grappler’s arsenal.
