Head and arm variation on tai Otoshi set up for no gi from over under. This one is from the longer video of judo style throws for no gi on my KZbin channel.

I learned that as a head-and-arm throw in wrestling. I love how takedowns can be universal.

Tai Otoshi usually has the tripping leg knee closer to the ground and the tripping leg lower on his leg, down the shin area. This is more of a hip throw like koshi Guruma.
@KnightJiuJitsu Жыл бұрын
It’s actually more kubi nage than anything, but each time I post it I call it either Tai Otoshi, koshi garuma, kubi nage or something else because in no gi they could all be similar. I just always like hearing people’s take on it.

Why is the judo community so salty over the correct names? Guruma or tai otoshi? All i see is a nice and practicable no-gi hip throw ❤🎉 Thanks for sharing

Ngl that is more of an uki goshi, as you can see he goes up on your hip, however it does look very useful
@prvtthd4012 жыл бұрын
Yeah I thought it was a harai goshi maybe koshi guruma. Either way, it is a hip throw. Tai Otoshi is an arm throw, you can even do it without leg contact. Edit: definitely koshi guruma, but it is an old style koshi guruma where they placr the leg across and wheel the opponent over the hip.
@Taekwon-Brando2 жыл бұрын
I was thinking koshi guruma as well
@nonyabizness25502 жыл бұрын
This would actually be considered kubi nage
@danielebarbieri64752 жыл бұрын
Yes. Tai otoshi is a te waza . When you put the hip is kubi nage.
@twentyonetortas59212 жыл бұрын
@@danielebarbieri6475 how come there are different names for this move and which martial arts are those names based on? and any more differences? how do you involve the hip in this move for it to be called a kubi nage? this is interesting.
@danielebarbieri64752 жыл бұрын
@@twentyonetortas5921 look the video...the hip is involved. We are talking about judo throws and that in the video is more like kubi nage than tai otoshi which is a te waza and is pratically impossible to do no gi. I answered but honestly i don't see your point
@Aarsvold862 жыл бұрын
kubi-nage is an old name, everything related to 'kubi-nage' is koshi-guruma.
@nonyabizness25502 жыл бұрын
Kubi nage has similar foot placement to tai otoshi. But proximity is too close. Tai otoshi can be thrown no gi, with underhook or overhook. But the hips are disconnected. Because they are connected this is kubi nage. Koshi guruma is thrown with feet much narrower. But the upper body work is the same.

Nice takedown! To be be THAT guy: that's not tai otoshi, it's just one of the million variations of a hip toss. Tai otoshi requires a single leg trip, and that's where the name "body drop" comes from. It's like effortlessly dropping a bag of flour when done right.

A duck under headlock is a little bit harder to get unless you're shorter but that's what I prefer the psychological Factor can't be understated of flipping someone over that way with a throw that way can throw them off just enough together submission on them for my experience unless you're just talking about pure wrestling/grappling With no experience in MMA/various grappling arts to transition Edit that said I like what you're doing it is a good way to get a headlock takedown there I'm a smaller person I have to fight smarter and is probably doesn't make sense to most people I'm not good at teaching

It would probably actually be kubi nage. I change the name each time I post it, just for fun. I think (since it is no gi) you could call it kubi nage, koshi garuma or tai otoshi.
@Krooks44 Жыл бұрын
As a Judoka I’d call it Koshi Guruma because of the head lock and how deep the hips are. But I know similar moves have different names depending on the martial art. Not matter what you call it you can definitely call it effective 👍🏻

No. It’s technically kube nagi. But no gi judo becomes weird with terminology, and I also like to use random names, sometimes closely related and sometimes not, so that the judo pedants will chime in.

Almost, but it’s the other one: kubi nage. Koshi guruma has both feet on the inside like o goshi.
@Aarsvold862 жыл бұрын
@@redpuppy101 It's a common missunderstanding. Kubi-nage doesn't exist in Kodokan Judo technique nomenclature. It's an old name, which isn't used anymore. What what sometimes refered to as kubi-nage is now Koshi-guruma. Where your feet are has no bearing on the principle mechanic of the technique. It's the wheeling around your hips.
@redpuppy1012 жыл бұрын
@@Aarsvold86 you have a point. Now that I think of it, I don’t remember learning kubi nage in judo, but in a system derived from ju jitsu. Thank you for the clarification!
