Thank you so much for this video sir. My radiators weren’t getting hot no matter how much I turned the thermostat up, I even bled them but still no joy. Even had an engineer come out a few days ago and they didn’t fix the issue. So I decided to search KZbin today for a possible solution and landed on your video. Now my radiators are working like a well oiled machine. Thank you so much, my family thanks you. God Bless.

Like everyone else, I want to thank you sir for this invaluable information- it’s certainly boosted my confidence. In the past I have tried moving these levers but did so with so much uncertainty and fear of blowing up the boiler or the whole house! However, after watching your video, it’s given me some reassurance and now I know it’s safe to do so. One other thing I noticed is that you’ve taken the time to provide answers to every single post and we salute you for this. What a gentleman- the world needs more people like you🤗

Thank you so much for this. I have a condo, and as the winter prep started, we found we had no heat. An electrician/plumber came in and fixed a problem with the thermostat, but there was minimal heat from the rad. I was then informed that I needed to change my zone valve and to bleed the system as I had an airlock. I contacted the folks who did the work and was looking at almost 1 grand of "work" to be shouldered by myself as it's indoor work, so I decided to do some research. Now, all I've done is flip the switch from Auto to Manual as Dereton30 indicated in the video, and taraaaaa! I've got sweet heat flowing at full blast. Nice little gift for the first snowstorm of 2023. THANK YOU!!!

Thank you very much for your video. We had no heating, but did have hot water. I checked the thermostat and boiler without success. After watching this I put the valve into manual and everything is working now. I shall get a professional in to do a replacement repair, but am really thankful that we now have heating again.

Small problem. Once the hot water reaches its set temperature. The gas boiler switches off, so no heating again. To keep the heating on I am going to need to run some hot water from the tank every so often

I have a hive system that controls this on and off around three times a day. I'm not sure it it's that causing motor burn out or if the physical valve is broken. Only 6 years old. But now third motor now.

Hi. Great vid. I have 2x valves, one for my central heating (which works fine and boiler fires). The other is for my kitchen UFH. This one turns on via my nest, but boiler doesn't fire, which is why I think the valve may be the issue. However, when I switch to manual as per the video, it doesn't fire the boiler - should it? Thanks for the fantastic video. I’ve got no hot water unless the CH fires up. I have 2x 2-port valves beside the HW cylinder . One of them is warm to the touch so I’m guessing that is the one for HW. The one that works the hot water is on a pipe that leads into the hot water cylinder, more than likely the one warm to the touch, jammed on, try just changing the motor first.

Hi - don’t mind account (using my daughters) do I need to drain the system if I’m changing the motor and the 2 port piece also? If so, how? I’m ordering full piece with 2 port piece from your store. By the way, I have a Siemens DVA2/5 s same thing? Thanks Eoin
@dereton33

You will have to drain down if you are renewing the entire thing. If it was just the motor on top then you do not need to drain anything. The Siemens is the same type. To drain out look for a drain valve on the lower floors.

Thanks for the excellent explanation of the motorised valve. My CENTER valve is making a continuous tapping noise. I moved the lever to manual. It made no sound when I moved it and had no resistance. The lever is down fully but will not clip into place. My central heating is set on at the controller and is working. My hot water is off at the controller but the water is hot. So i assume the valve is open. But the motor or something is tapping away. Any ideas?

Brilliant Information, Can i check my issue with you? We have a 2 way valve next to the hot water tank. Think i am correct that when the system is off and it isnt energised that there is the resistance when moving from auto to manual. With the hot water & heating on, the lever is loose? Before we put the heating on, we started to see some radiators coming on and getting warm. Now we have put the heating on as it is getting colder, i am finding that the radiators are getting hot but the hot water is only getting warm. Is this happening because of the valve, or another issue? I will try just putting the valve on the Manual setting for tonight, see if it solves the issue and then look to replace it. Any guidance greatly appreciated..

This is more than likely a balance problem, the heating is stealing all the boilers heat, but do try the valve in manual in case it is not opening fully.

Thank you for this video , if you can help me I would be very great full, I have a 3 way Drayton motorised valve it seems to work ok but when I have the heating on in the evening and then turn the heating of from the room thermostat the heating will not turn of . I then have to go to the airing cupboard and switch the power of the motorised valve for a few seconds and I then hear a “ rewinding “ noise coming from the valve , do I need a new motorised valve or is it a possible a maintenance issue if I remove the valve and clean and inspect . The lever on the side of the valve seems very loose to the touch . Thank you for your time , Regards, Dermot Kelly .

Thank you so much for this. My three way valve was buzzing after the timer switched everything off and so I replaced the valve using your instructions to the T. I switched the old one to Manual before removing and put the new one to Manual before installing and then returning it to Auto. I now have a problem with the heating coming on with the hot water even though the heating is set to “Off”. I have checked the wiring and everything is in the right place. Any ideas, please?

Hi, thanks for such an informative video. This has helped me enormously in tracing an issue with my central heating. May I ask you one question? I have a 2 way valve that controls the downstairs underfloor heating. Isn’t firing up the boiler - I’ve checked the switch and it correctly seems to have opened up with load. if I turn the load off it then has resistance, so I’m assuming that part of the valve has worked. Is there part of this valve that then signals the boiler to fire up? Thanks very much in advance!
@dereton33
@dereton33 3 жыл бұрын
There is a microswitch in there that could have failed, but if the valve is not spring returning it then that may be the problem. Whatever a new valve is the best answer.

Hi. Thanks for the video! Got the downstairs rads on now. I have 3 x two way valves (upstairs, water, downstairs). When the faulty downstairs valve is manually opened it continues to run the boiler rather than the boiler following the timer so I have to turn it off manually to stop it continually being on. One timer is for water and downstairs valves and other for upstairs valve. Would this be a valve motor issue or timer issue? The water valve still works. Thanks in advance

Great video and a total lifesaver! Quick question....I removed the square cover from the unit and the round cover off the motor to discover that the flywheel on the outside was spinning freely and making a weird noise! Its a 3 -way device. I had previously switched to "manual" due to lack of heating as you advised and it worked for a bit but then was a bit stop start - I'm guessing the unit is completely useless, does that sound the case? Cheers and keep up the good work!

Our heating system stopped working and we got an engineer out. He quoted us for a new thermostat and receiver, and a new motorised valve head. Quote was for £660. I tried switching the valve heads to manual and the heating came on. I then tested whether the thermostat worked properly and it does, heating comes on when I turn it up, and goes off when I turn it down to room temp. I suspect this means we only need the valve heads sorting, not the thermostat and receiver? Thanks

@dereton33

You will not increase any pressure to the hot taps with this motor. It is purely to direct water flow to either the hot water tank or the heating or both. The motor valve is quite normal.

It works singly, one of the other, but the problem is the hotwater doesn’t work on the ON function it only works on the once function. The heating is ok, works on any function. What’s the actual problem with this diverter. Thanks for reading.... feedback welcome, Thankyou.

I have joined live and #3 together on the back of the control panel and it lights up the boiler turning on both rads + hot water when I joined Live and #4 together nothing happens any suggestions. I have a hot water issue. Central heating works fine. But hot water on its own won't come on (I.e. Boiler won't fire up and pump start), however does seem to heat up the water when the central heating is also on (as the central heating does fire up the boiler and pump) I have two 2-way valves. The one for the central heating has no resistance on the lever, doesn't make the whirring noise as you move it to manually open. I'm guessing central heating is stuck on open. So when only hot water is on the system is getting confirmation that central heating is shut and hot water is open to allow pump and boiler to start. Does this sound correct? And replacing the central heating 2 way valve should fix it? Any advice appreciated

Hello, thanks for the video. Ours has failed in stages, first no hot water but heating worked, then heating packed in, but we still have heating upstairs controlled by a separate thermostat. I have 3 motorised valves in the airing cupboard, one labelled ‘Up - upstairs I’m guessing - ‘D’ - downstairs and then one on top of a pipe feeding into the tank. I have moved the lever on the D - downstairs one to manual open. But the boiler still isn’t firing when selecting +1 hour for heating or hot water or both together. In fact when both together the thermostat just flashes and clicks on and off. We have Honeywell thermo and a logic 15 boiler. Any ideas? Should I switch all 3 boxes to manual open? Thanks in advance

Hi there. I've got hot water and hot radiators upstairs. All cold downstairs accept the downstairs toilet which is almost directly below the tank and this valve. On this valve, the lever was in the center. I've moved it to auto and manual but it's very loose, no resistance or noise moving the lever. It's hot the unit, so possibly burnt out? Only confusing part is have hot water and hot rads upstairs. All but one cold downstairs. Is it this valve?
