Spiritual Unfoldment with John Butler

This life isn't a joy ride - it's exile from home. We're not here to be happy, but to recognise we've strayed. Pain and suffering teach us that we're not yet home.
Did you know you can now listen to John on Spotify and other audio platforms? Here is his most popular recording 'Common sense guide to meditation' (1m views) - ffm.to/commonsenseguidetomedi....

John, I would love you to talk about patience. So often today I find most people don’t have very much patience, everyone is in such a rush and don’t stop to think why. I am very lucky that I have been blessed with a lot of patience, many people say they wish they had my patience or, you have the patience of a Saint. I think we would all be much happier in our lives if we had more patience. Thank you.

13:10 "you have to be cruel to be kind" Personally I'd agree completely. In my knowledge, Better it is to hear a harsh truth and move on, than be drawn in by a faceless lie
@Wundai
@Wundai 4 жыл бұрын
That one made me think. But indeed like you say 'the harsh truth' if that is meant by being cruel then I totally agree :-) I can understand that people don't like to be confronted(I have that myself some times :P ), but the harsh truth is what you do need indeed. And in a sense that is not really being cruel, it's actually helpful to the person being confronted. The slapping the horse part was a different kind of being cruel that threw me off a bit with the meaning.

This man is the most honest, talking about spiritual affairs: Nothing really to teach, no business concept, no scolars sitting to his feet. His apperance that of a friendly humble guide telling us most normal and obvious things to consider. Does it help? Or is it just an other spiritual entertainment? A comfort ? Unless we expierience the impact of his advice: "Just sit and look and listen, be here now." Whichever practices one prefers! Grace might find you or not ???!!! Therefore why not enjoy this precious life anyway before dissolving into the unknown! Spacetime, Ignorance - enlightenment, does it make a difference? We are all blessed here now - saints as well as sinners!

There are few words John, to say after this wonder~full chat. Thank You so much will have to suffice. “The Work” came my way in the late 70’s via a small group (it seems to b be the nature of the work to only have a few groups scattered throughout the world at anyone time) in Sydney. All aspects of knowledge spiritual and material were enjoyed, studied and fitfully lived over many years. After all those thousands of hours of earnest but joyful work it was you who reminded of the simple aim of it all; COME HOME. God Bless John and thanks again.

what about the 60 million people who die every year in the world,how many of them had goals,where did it get them nowhere.Living in the now as John butler and obviously Tolle call it is not living in the future where goals reside. Peoples goals are ended everyday in hospitals everyday when a gynacologist tells them they only have 6 months to live . As John butler says" Be present. goals are the domain of the ego it projects into the future where this character with his or her concepts will be in 10 years time,where that might be attainable,but then the ego knows it's going to die anyway so it's game over anyway.

Another great talk, thank you John! I always feel so relieved by this kind of message, having had the bottom fall out of my life, after thinking I was somewhat "clear." That's why I've read ALL your books-even the poetry. Can't help trying a little Python humor though: In the spirit of the "Luxury!" Monte Python skit of the Four Yorkshiremen: 7 years of depression? Is that all? Luxury! My "Dark Night" went on for more like 15. And I was God before that! "Aye. In them days, we'd a' been glad to have the price of a cup o' tea. GC: A cup ' COLD tea. EI: Without milk or sugar. TJ: OR tea! MP: In a filthy, cracked cup. EI: Luxury! We never used to have a cup. We used to have to drink out of a rolled up newspaper. GC: The best WE could manage was to suck on a piece of damp cloth."

Do not seem unkind at all to me thank you John yet again for another wonderful time. I am currently at 12 minutes 50 seconds and I find a profound the way you use silence to say so much. If I could just learn how to wait... Isn't that it though that's so much of it is about the waiting? I've enjoyed these talks very much and your deep love and your wisdom I appreciate these talks and I have seen many of them and I keep watching sometimes I don't always watch all of them but I think what you're doing is helping in fact I know it's helping more than any of us will ever know and 300 years from now there will be people who find these videos and what you are saying today will be just as true for them as it is for us right now watching a video from you today. I'm thankful for so many things and I'm thankful also for how you show us the silence and Stillness how to incorporate silence and Stillness in our lives that we can learn how to wait and I'm in the waiting Mary find ourselves as it is quite clear you have found yourself and continue to each day the never ending process of self-discovery. Thank you John and thank you everyone and thank you also for showing how it is everyone working together experiencing the world dust on the Wind and yet the dust and the wind it's who we are and where we are thank you for showing us how to wait I have also suffered from depression it is no small thing but it is always temporary what is 2 years in eternity? We will find a way and we are and we do and your voice and your wisdom helps us to remember...

Finally listening this morning, I am glad to see you're still here, reminding me about simplicity and spirit and Jesus Christ alive...dear hubby and I, as we grow older, are becoming more aware of this beautiful simplicity. We sing for folks in religious services two or three times a week, because we love people and want to celebrate the Lord, but the best part of this life is the sweetness of being quiet in the mornings, drinking our coffee and each speaking with God in our own way. I am so thankful to be growing older.

@Sam Cooper John defines Christ in a very general way, not even as a man, but as a symbol of sacrifice for others. Once he spoke of all the "mini-Christs" he sees in the world - the carrot that sacrifices its life for us to eat, for example. A person who lends someone a hand, etc.
@LadyGryffin
@LadyGryffin 4 жыл бұрын
Have you watched his video about "What Christ means to him"? I personally like that he views Christ as a symbol available to everyone by whatever name feels right to them versus hard-core and exclusive Christianity. Not everyone is a Christian, but that's not to say they're not spiritual and on the same journey as everyone else. John has made it clear many times that he is not judgmental of people's beliefs and that his understanding of the Bible, Jesus, and God is what he grew up with and how he understands "The Presence". But that there is no "right" or "wrong" way to do so.

I love what you wrote. I don't feel "happy" when wildlife lose their homes to human stupidity, ocean life is vanishing, my elders are lonely, confused & isolated at care facilities, & billionaires are plundering my nation's public lands, greenlighting big polluters & rigging elections. I feel responsible & grieved. This is the painful sad bully-ruled destructive hellhole of which John speaks that makes one reach for the unbroken vaster realm & time with God. But you must be far more advanced, so great!, to feel undisturbed by the waste & brutality around & within us. In theory i can agree happily with your wonderful untouched view, in practice i sob bitterly for the plight of animals & people, & will be relieved when the uphill hike here is done & i can roll out the sleeping bag to rest in God's divine vast mystery. It's what John is urging us to do during life, not just after.

I agree with you. Earth is our home, but some people let the external problems blind them to the fact that this is their home, even if it's "temporary". Everywhere is my home.

John you make sense of things I do not always understand. I know I am a work in progress. I don't know it all but I am thirsty for more knowledge and open to receiving it with humility..

I feel lost at 23, sometimes I don’t know if I feel smart enough to attend to my studies. Somehow, John reminds me that everything is okay and that we are in control of our destiny.

John yes this life has purpose God has created us for himself but we think we created ourselves.were here to become saints ,we were angels and born into these bodies we lost all of God’s glory when we came into this world, Yes-to across the valley of shadow of death, the key is to understand divine presence and the prize is sainthood. Yes John Saints and angels.
