Very good video, very emotional. With effort and patience everything is achieved. Life is a challenging adventure and if you do what you have always done, you will achieve what you have always achieved. The biggest risk is not taking any risk. P.S. I love the chosen theme of Loving Caliber (Illusions Until nex time), good choice. Greetings.

WOW, over one year has gone by!!!??? You're so f****** brave to start your first drive even with a passenger next to you, but he seems to be a cool dude who eventually helped you to release the handbrake. 😉 Doing what you are most afraid of is always the best way to overcome the fear of reliving a past trauma, although it still is a pretty bold move. RESPECT!!! I'm happy for you that you managed to overcome your nightmares, and I want to assure you once again that I enjoy watching your creative and tastefully made vlogs. I wish you all the luck and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your content.

You'll never regret taking the step you have in this video. Leaning into the uncomfortable is challenging, and, so deeply rewarding. The sense of achievement, what you felt inside, it was so great that you allowed yourself to feel it all without judgement. This isn't 'getting back to the bush', this is next-level Monique opening herself up to new experiences and being open to the thought that the future can be even better than imagined. 🤗

That Hilux looks rather tall. Do you have trouble getting in and things out of the truck? I was 12 years old driving my Dad’s 1988 Nissan Hardbody 4x2 standard cab bench seat no power anything (steering included) around the lower field of my high school.

Actually it was super memorable. I learned to drive Manual Transmission when I 15 with my friends in high school. I was really bad at it since I had almost zero seat time. When it finally came to even buying my first manual transmission car and the memories of driving it were so far away, I had to bring my friend along on a road trip to pick up the nearly perfect 1993 240SX. He test drove it and helped me drive it two and a half hours back home. Finally when I got the car squared away with registration and insurance, I set on an evening of learning to drive the car. Fast forward three years later with heaps of road trips and another manual transmission car after the 240SX was crashed. I set on a summer trip to greater Asia. First stop, Malaysia! Like other former British Colonies, they drive on the left side of the road and have right hand drive. However, the cars were clearly not the same! I had the opportunity to sample the local vehicle manufacturer, Perodua. They had what was practically a Malaysian Kei Car! The 660cc Kancil, a 5-door hatchback! With nearly 31 brake horsepower, I was every 50cc scooter and moped. Despite it being on the other side of the road and the otherside in the car itself, driving along was easy. But I think the slower Langkawi island vibes made it super easy. It was a great time driving around the island.

Glad that you have managed to reach out for the help that you needed. So many people try to cope with post-mva psych trauma without getting professional help - although I see most people benefitting from in-person cognitive behavioural therapy. Virtual help is great for those without the ability to get into a face-to-face, but I'll bet that if the issue was formally studied, patients would do better in-person, rather than virtual. Whatever works for you, though. Haven't been up the Squamish River/Elaho valley(s) since last year - but will be exploring Cloudburst this month. This area has always been one of my favourites. Not much in the way of 4x4 challenge, save for Hut Lake, Starvation Lake and a few lesser known locations - but gorgeous country for overland type exploration. Back in the 80's you used to be able to get within a 3 day hike to Chatterbox Falls and Princess Louisa inlet. The 2015 Elaho fire and subsequent slides have wiped the road out, but that's been a boon to the grizzly and moose populations. Great video! Congrats for taking on the "manual challenge". I grew up on manual trucks, farm trucks, tractors - and then the auto trans became the norm, so I lost the 'touch'. Thankfully, I found a unicorn 993 a little more than a decade ago, and I've got my timing back.....love seeing you guys enjoying a manual!

To confront your fears, is what stops them from growing. Human imagination, is what adapts us to survive....but waiting too long, let's imagination become a wild horse. I am happy you are stepping out, ..to rediscover all the wonderful things you have been missing, ..and that the cloud of your unexpected experience is finally lifting. Enjoy being out in nature, because that is what inspires us all, where the weather is a daily fresh experience , in places so many, nobody could travel to all of them. Each season is new with expectation. Enjoy.

Learn to have faith in your enthusiasm for the things you love. When you can walk away from something and not miss it, you probably shouldn't be doing that thing anyway. When it's something you love, you'll come back to it when you're ready. The hardest part is overcoming inertia and then regretting the time you wasted NOT doing things you love.

I give you credit for getting back out there. I've had a few accidents over many years and hundreds of thousands of miles. It does make me a more cautious driver and give me some anxiety, particularly in heavy traffic when I see people playing on their phones. I actually feel pretty comfortable off-road as I'm in control and don't have to worry about other drivers, except in harder off camber situations. I have driven many manual trans sports cars and trucks, even drag racing some at the track. I did just get to drive a right hand vehicle with a manual transmission for the first time in Scotland. In busy traffic in Edenborough on my first day with my family in the car it was nerve wracking. We drove over 600 miles on narrow twisty rural roads, it was amazing and although we didn't go off-road (except a logging road by mistake) we were so glad we were able to see areas we couldn't have any other way. You've got this!!

Hey, glad your were strong to get back into the saddle. You need to face those fears. My GF (now my wife) rolled her car and needed to rip off the roof (jaws of life) to get her and her brother out. My dad got her to drive a few days later as he stressed that you need to face those fears. Can't let them rule your life. It helped her overcome getting back into the driver's seat. Mental health us important. Glad you are back into it. Welcome back!

I experience anxiety because my wife has it on certain occasions. I try to be there without overstepping her boundaries. Just to talk when she wants to. It’s a long journey to try to reprogram yourself to not let yourself ruin a potential experience because of the stress of thinking about it to much before hand. Take your time and talking to someone is a great help.

Thank you for talking about taking care of your mental health. There is still a negative stigma associated with therapy and mental healthcare. Hopefully the next generation will view it as just part of their regular healthcare. I spent years suffering from depresion, anxiety, and PTSD without seeking treatment. It almost cost me my life. I’m so glad I sought treatment and so happy you did too. It’s still something I have to work on regularly just like yourself, but I’m so much better off now.

Dear Ms. Lady first i want to say I'm proud of you second i told you that you got a friend here.. Hope these words help... When you have your moment control your breathing focus on what's around you what do you feel what do you smell what do you hear.. Bring your mind back to the moment and out of the memory.. I know it's not easy but know your stronger than you know... We are all broken so no need to kick yourself your just one of the few to admit it.. Because of what happen you're more alert but you still know how to laugh and be honest so honestly your not broken just more reinforced... Ms. Lady I'm happy to see you back out in nature and don't be afraid to take baby steps... Your videos can also be your therapy.. Life is about balance being strong when we feel terrified and finding humbleness while feeling invincible... We all have scars but not many can see them but when talked about a few can feel them.... Stay awesome Ms. Lady and i hope these words helped but also made a smile.. I was looking at my mini griddle that you told me about and thought about you lol.... Everything in life happen for a reason.... Don't focus on the bad but just appreciate the good you have in your life.... You're never alone.. Your friend Heyoka God bless... I told you I'll go camping with you lmao stay awesome stay true stay you

Just curious, how come you didn’t get another cruiser? When I think about your channel the cruiser comes to mind. It’s your brand, it’s in your logo. I Think it’s more you, more your style. But what do I know? The truck doesn’t have that coziness, it feels detached, different. This is just my opinion so of course I’m wrong but I think the truck is not it. You and cruiser is like peanut butter and jelly, it just works.
@OverlandLady
@OverlandLady 2 жыл бұрын
I absolutely feel you. The Petro cruiser was too thirsty on gas (22L/100KM or 10 mpg) . My next would be either a diesel or hybrid. In a way I kinda wanted a truck, more space. Plus the consideration of sleeping 2 requires a roof tent. Truck generally has more payload. Tho I agree, there's always a feeling of lack of "soul" with the new rig. Perhaps because it was stil new, the story of us haven't been long. That said, I definitely look forward to having another cruiser in the future. Maybe a newer one when I can afford. Or when the Diesel 200s qualify for 15 year old import law. (North America only get petrol. same consumption issue).

As with any PTSD, you will have triggers along the way. Overcoming them and getting comfortable with them will take time and that is just part of the journey. Maybe getting out to where you first started overlanding will help but the baby steps your doing now is a great way to start. As with many others advice on this, take from this what you can. Great to see you back in the outdoors. I was too in a couple near death vehicle accidents and it does take to time to not only heal your body but to really let your mind absorb and process everything that has happened. Quick story about driving a right hand vehicle. I went to work in the Cayman Islands for year and the company I worked for said they would give me a company work truck to get around the island for work and pleasure. When I showed up I was given what I call the Scooby Doo Van that was right hand drive and manual because work was so busy all the good trucks were being used. I was like what the hell and to add to challenge they drove on the left side of the ride. It was very quick learning curve for sure but I survived. The saving grace are people living in the Caymans are super layed back and very courteous drivers so when I did screw up they were patient with me. They funny thing I did not expect was I got so used to driving on the left side of the road in the Caymans when I moved back to Canada I made alot more mistakes with going back to driving on the right side or the road instead of the left. Happy to see back enjoying the outdoors Monique....all the best in your future adventures.

Take it easy and talking about it does help, ignore whoever says its repetitive/get over it/etc. I had passengers like yours only they're kids (other incoming car was in our lane at a hilly corner). Its been 4 years and I don't take that back road anymore if I have a passenger and I'm extra cautious whenever I have passengers.

Glad to see you back in the woods. Everything will get better in time, speaking from experience. The Helix seems to be an upgrade. I am not sure I could drive a standard right-hand drive. You look like you were doing well though.

Oh Monique. What a great video! So happy to see you out there again. And how could you go wrong, packing Vegemite for a camping trip!🤣

It takes us a week to prep before going out on a "camping" trip. My GF preps the trailer and I prep the tow vehicle. It's like riding a bicycle.
