The Caribbean island of Barbuda felt the full force of Hurricane Irma. Now, a struggle to control its future is underway. On one side are Barbudans who own the land and want to preserve their unique way of life - on the other, the government and foreign investors who see opportunity in disaster.

This clip failed to mention that Antigua and Barbuda have one Treasury System. This means that all purchases tied to Barbuda, be they flights, boat rides, hotel stays, or a pencil...ALL of those purchases are taxed and those taxes go directly to one Treasury System. That system has yet to develop a hospital or even a decent police station or anything of the sort to show for ALL the Monies it has received because of Barbuda for centuries. The idea that Barbuda is solely dependent on Antigua is a complete lie that is being pushed to substantiate the agenda of turning the island into a luxury resort! You gave no account of how funds are collected and allocated in conjunction with Barbuda and you also made the erroneous assertion that there is nothing being done to help with relief and recovery efforts beyond the island. This pice really could have shed light on a lot of significant issues. I guess it's easy not to follow up with the leadership, who attended that Town Hall meeting in New York, even though you were given the contact information you requested to do so. When you want to FINISH reporting on this story, feel free to reach out. Best Regards...

Gaston Brown and other leaders in Antigua and Barbuda who want to give black people patrimony to white racist developers. Brown is talking about a development for Barbuda,Yes but they have to be part owners. On the other hand any place where white people go they create racial tensions and want preferential treatment.

That is messed up, people don't need to be more industrialized when that is exactly what is destroying the entire planet. People need food, water, shelter, the basics...i hope they keep their island as it was.

This would have been great if it were thorough, objective reporting that included Barbudans across the diaspora who have mobilized to help with the relief efforts, as well as an ACCURATE account of our history and treasury system. This report is extremely one sided and erroneous!

Why would Barbudans trust a banker pretending to be a Prime Minister? This man called descendants of slaves squatters. It is obvious he does not know the history of my ancestral land. Barbudans have a deep attachment to this beautiful Island. This is not about money; it is about maintaining a way of life that is honorable to our ancestors. I was just there with my mother visiting family. I can't wait to move back home.

We don’t, and in fact, in a snap election held months after the hurricane, although he still won nationally, his party lost the Barbuda seat, and lost the Barbuda Island Council.

Well, they've tried to get their separate indepdence from Britian, and they were told we don't think you can take care of yourself, so we will shove you on to Antigua. It's that complex that formal colonial powers have where they think they know what is best for the people, but they have no clue. The people of Barbuda do not like Antigua. We were shoved unto them.

Maybe this is the work of the Haarp that everybody is talking about. Maybe it's the plan to take the land. This will be the norm. now it will be a white Island. This is just the replay of history in so many black islands and nations. It's sad. When will enough be enough? God can see. Judgement will be unbelievable for the wicked. They have no idea. This is real tragedy. The prime minister did the math and maybe ready to sell his people with a smile but sell it just the same.

Simply put... from what was said in this video... the people of Barbuda are surviving on the support (money, relationships, etc.) from Antigua. If true... then they really do not have any right to demand anything... they are living off the Antiguan people's work and efforts because the people of Barbuda have created a society that is not self sustaining... end of story.

Man has become great on this earth. He learned how to blow up an atomic bomb. A person goes into open space. But a hurricane with a woman's name refers to this completely indifferent. Man will not soon become a god, maybe it will never happen ...

Expecting something for nothing? Typical. Do they want money to repair their island or do they want to leave it destroyed?
