Glad to see that they're still working on it, but is multiplayer the only thing that's in this update? MP is pretty much the last thing I care about having in NMS, there's so much more that I feel needs to be improved before I can really get into it again.
@GmrLeon6 жыл бұрын
Multiplayer just seems to be the most marketable feature of it. However as the biggest update to the game yet, they're surely going to be revisiting other features of the game, including those introduced with updates after launch (e.g. basebuilding, exocraft, missions, etc.).

All I really care about is better planet generation with a much wider variety in terrain, flora, and fauna, as well as completely overhauled fauna AI and behaviours. If any of that gets to the point that they originally showed, I'll be happy with the game.

I agree with your take regarding planet generation, I would add a real day / night physical stuff and not this cheap fake whatever we have, which just breaks my immersion completely, better water shaders, and so on and so on and so on. However, I understand why they are pushing multiplayer, and how hard it must be code-wise. I wouldn't be surprised that this is all they have worked at for the past year and more, given the technological problems that mp entail. I guess I'll have to wait a few more years until this game becomes something I will find interesting again.

Exactly in what way? Multiplayer in a game lacking purpose and content?
@Teddy-rdm6 жыл бұрын
Baleur to me it is not lacking content, I first bought the game when it came out, played it a bunch but then stopped for about a year, then a few months ago I took it back and started playing it again, and I really loved how easy it was to just start up the game, and relax with the calm music and the landscapes the game has to offer. I know currently the game lacks some content and it is a bit repetitive, but to me that's part of what I like about it, it's not a game that gives me thousands of different messages and makes me do lots of different things at a time, It's a game where I have all the time in the world to explore the universe, and most of the time, after playing the game for a few hours I feel better after playing it than before, while with other games that have lots of content, action and a bigger story, I sometimes feel more tense and tired after a long session :) The multiplayer will let me share that experience with my friends who have been waiting for the multiplayer to join in on me I hope I was able to answer your question
@finesseandstyle6 жыл бұрын
It's not that the game has lots of content or no, it's whether your actions have meaning or consequences on the world. A game can have lots of things to do like collecting resources but if that ultimately just enables you to get resources faster or getting a better ship so you can get a better ship it's pretty dull, IMO. I bought the game at 1.3 update, had hope right after seeing the disastrous launch that it might one day resurrect. I also hope that the new update fixes this issue of your actions not having any consequences on the world, not that there are quintillions of planets (which look all the same) to explore.

Not only that, but despite all the negative backlash he and this game got, he still has his cheerful, passionate attitude. This guy has some real willpower to come back from this.
@____uncompetative6 жыл бұрын
Sean basically admitted it was a mistake to talk in general terms about features present in early builds that may or may not make it into the initial release or indeed any subsequent update due to projects being subject to change for aesthetic, technical, or business reasons. It is right there at the end of the interview, and confirms what I always assumed about how him discussing his work in progress for several years of interviews, in a way which was atypical because most developers tend to remain tight lipped to avoid the customer jumping to the unfounded conclusion that everything ever mentioned in an interview was a cast iron promise customers could sue them over if undelivered. That notion has always been bunk. Every feature that was in the Steam product description was in the initial release at launch. Large scale space battles were in the game but the reason so many complained that they weren't was because they were rare. Xenodinosaurs were also present and were even more rare. All this was intended to give the exploration longevity. Now people are complaining to him on twitter saying that he lied because he has now added multiplayer, despite it clearly stating it was single-player about an inch to the right of their *Add to Cart* button. I give up, your collective stupidity can't be reasoned with. You just want to be negative.
@Wylie2886 жыл бұрын
This. Not to mention the said, all through out development, not every feature would be possible at launch. Why people ignored this ill never know. Why people thought a 4-13 man team could deliver more in less time than any other studio ever has ill never know.

Happy to see Sean smiling in public again. I have to imagine the reception and firestorm around No Man's Sky would kinda wreck a person for a while. Especially when it was clear that they loved what they were making, and their fans were hyped for it... then the reception immediately turned almost 100% negative. And not just negative, but vicious towards him personally, for believing he had lied to them. While I absolutely do believe Murray said some things that ended up being lies, and those pre-release trailers were nothing like the finished product - I think a lot of it was the naivete of a small team who unrealistically wanted to deliver the world, and also did a piss poor job of managing consumer expectations. I'd imagine Rare is going through some of this with Sea of Thieves right now, though they were far more transparent about what they were making, and allowing the public to see and play it for themselves pre-release. But in terms of hype and backlash - absolutely in a similar boat.

Awesome. Can not wait. Thank you our Lord savior Sean Murray and the Hello games Team. I'm excited for the MP features but please make sure we get a overhaul of variation with planets, fauna/flora. I'm hoping we get Lava Planets, Gas Giants in the game as well. From looking at the new box art it seems you wonderful people will be giving us ringed planets also?? HYPE.
@matheusleme58156 жыл бұрын
ThunderHumpingTurtleDuck Interloper gas giants aren't possible in the nms universe (sean stated it). Because you know, according to astronomy, gas giants doesn't have a solid surface, so it wouldn't be possible to explore it (that's why)
@RCmies6 жыл бұрын
Exclusive Br That's just an excuse. Gas giants could be used for in atmosphere trade stations (floating in the clouds of the gas giant) as well as scooping minerals from the edge of the gas giant. There are plenty of gameplay elements for that.
@matheusleme58156 жыл бұрын
RCmies interesting, that's a nice idea, you should send that in the forums, that would be an awesome feature in no man's sky

Much respect for Sean Murray and his team. Regardless of whether they are to blame for the shortcomings of the game during launch, they kept on going and have released loads of content and patches even though people still give them shit. Sean, you making a public appearance again after all you've been through makes you an absolute legend and don't let people tell you otherwise.

As someone who paid full MSRP for this steaming shitloaf, I did not love seeing it fail. Could've been the GOAT. Instead it was goat shit.
@finesseandstyle6 жыл бұрын
The game was in fact blatantly false advertised. You can't deny that. It should have sold at $20 as an Early Access game but Sony decided it's a finished AAA game at $60. Tho they are making a comeback and I have my game ready for it (yes I bought it when it was in discount because of 1.3 update).

Maybe because hype beasts had a field day with him. Hello games is not a large cap publisher with many studios. Second chances are nice especially for small group like them with a game that is bigger than many AAA's.
@giraffe77536 жыл бұрын
Nah, people hyping up the game weren't the problem. People didn't get hyped about stuff that wasn't promised. It was the content that was stated to be in the game that got people excited. Don't try to blame consumers for trusting the developer's word on their product.
@Q-646 жыл бұрын
Giraffe Everything he said in the interview has or is coming to fruition. It just wasn't on the timetable of hype beasts. Considering it's all free I can't complain. They didn't give up nor did I.

There is simply nothing like No man's Sky. There are some games that try to use procedural generation but they are incredibly limited compared to the universe in No Man's Sky and I'm not talking about the billions of planets, I'm talking about the entire experience , the story, the music, the graphics and attention to details. It's all so well done.

@purplelizard23486 жыл бұрын
Oobe Nah it's not going to be just multiplayer. Also with the past updates yeah planet generation improved. Ofcourse you're bound to come across some ugly ones, but the point of the game isn't just to be in cheery funville all day.
@stonaraptor81966 жыл бұрын
i think he is referring to the lack of biome variation and the fact that every planet only had a single damn biome. Which makes it extremely dull after a few planets.

@UltimateFeudEnterprise6 жыл бұрын
There will be an option for single player, an option you won’t even need as the universe is so big that it is very very very rare to bump into someone unless you are actively looking for them. Do not worry, I’ve never met a single player on my travels, not even a base. I’ve been playing this game since launch too
@stonaraptor81966 жыл бұрын
oh please yes the universe ingame is huge but i remember on the day of release 2 players already "met" each other. Well they were in the same spot at least, not able to see each other.
@UltimateFeudEnterprise6 жыл бұрын
Stona Raptor That’s because they actively looked for one another they didn’t bump into each other by chance. The universe is bigger than we can actually comprehend, the chances of bumping into someone randomly who is going to just shoot and kill you is literally so rare it’s not worth worrying about
@Matt-uk7zq6 жыл бұрын

Multiplayer is technically already in, just in the form of a glowing orb. No character model, but you can explore with your friends. Update NEXT will have models from what I've understood.
@Wylie2886 жыл бұрын
1.3 had the multiplayer he described. And something working in a development build is 100s of man hours away from polished enough for release. Do you not remember the game at launch? Would you really rather they spent 100 less hours on what was there just to add multiplayer in a game that doesn't even complement it well?
