Lalonde is way more the issue than Yzerman. The wings have a great prospect pool and Steve, while having some bad contracts in there, did a great job getting Raymond and Seider locked up long term and the Lyon and Talbot signings have been key. Plus, if you look back at his press conferences this off season, he understood that this was a team that could compete for the playoffs, but didn’t seem convinced that they would. I think he still believes this team is 2-3 years from truly competing. Last year’s success has only raised fan expectations. I don’t think the front office will let Stevie go unless the team’s prospects completely fail to develop and we go back into a rebuild. That said, this team on paper should not be as awful as they’ve been. So Lalonde should definitely get the boot.
@a.N.....8 сағат бұрын
Lalonde has made the wings identity as dump and chase. It doesn't work for our players and at best it's a situational system. Crossing into the offensive zone with a plan would serve the wings much better than "go get exhausted in the corner, and give up the puck just to skate all the way back to the defensive zone".

I remember Red Wings fans saying they were expecting big things once Blashill was fired.
@captbloodbeardСағат бұрын
We just got the wrong coach for it. This team has a ton of offensive talent, and has looked their best the last couple seasons when they were playing a more run and gun style of game that suits the type of forwards they have in their top 6. Not saying they have all the right pieces yet to really compete in the playoffs, but to win enough fun high scoring games to get there. Like Florida used to be before Paul Maurice and Tkachuk, the Huberdeau days (and consequently, it was that style of hockey that allowed Hubie to be so successful, and really explains why he's struggled so much in Calgary's defense first system).

Quenneville would make sense if they do decide to make a replacement I mean he could help get Kane and to d going. I agree though it kind of reminds me of the Bruins before the firing the coach, Red Wings look like they don’t really have much of an identity. Sometimes I question whether they are trying. They should 100% be better than what they are

Over the course of his first two seasons, Lalonde has tried to implement a system that is low event, defensively oriented hockey. At times it has worked out. The Wings have gone through stretches of keeping even top teams in the league to the outside and forced to take low quality shots. But the team has never really looked fully "locked in" and like they've truly figured out how to play. They're still inconsistent and they look remarkably impotent and low energy this season. If Lalonde can't get this system to work, he has to change something. And if he can't do that soon, then I think this season should probably be it for him.
@leftygtrplr61848 сағат бұрын
They should have made the move on Montgomery. Give credit to the Blues for making that move so quickly. Other than that, I don't know who would be a good replacement. Not sure Gallant would want the job. Todd McClellan? I'd say no to Quenneville.
@JoJo-ke5yz8 сағат бұрын
Lalonde's system just isn't working for this roster. He wants to coach a defensive style, turtling to protect 1 goal leads despite Detroit only have 1 competent D pairing. Worst 5 on 5 record in the league but 6th PP? C'mon. The offensive skill is there, its just not Lalondes style. Even Kane was saying the same thing back as early as October in a presser, that they are not playing to their strengths.
@GizmoBeach3 сағат бұрын
I was just thinking Detroit could use some more instability. If anyone's on the hot seat it's Brunette. Always liked him as a player and thought he was doing a solid job for Florida. He has Asst. GM experience that must help somewhat in his HC duties. Expectations were high for the Preds and instead they free-fell and after that 3-game win streak snapped their oh-for they haven't won twice in a row. His job is hovering over a volcano.

If there is ANY blame on Yzerman this year its because he doesn't replace Lalonde mid-season. Yzermans prospects are on fire in Grand Rapids this year, still trust in his plan at the moment.

@JoJo-ke5yz8 сағат бұрын
@@crushdavis7048 Signing them at all wasnt a mistake, we needed a stop gap until all of Stevies picks could make the team. I do agree that they are being paid too damn much though....but their contracts will fall off just in time for Pellika and Wallender to make the team when it matters. Not to mention the large number of forwards and and goalies Detroit has to trade away for a Dman or to fill in any gap. 2 years. If the picture isn't clear in 2 years then we can talk about Stevie.
@randombutrelevant7 сағат бұрын
Serious? Look at this roster! Name one coach that would have this roster more than 3 pts ahead of where they are at? Exactly. If there is one blame on Yzerman it a few blames. Copp, Compher, Chiarot, Tarasenko, Holl, Petry sending picks for ADB AND Walman when we should have proper tanked. Other than that... he's done well! How, if you are a wings fan are you not stoked we might get a top 5 pick. Again, name a coach with that D- 'Corps' who would be doing any better? There isn't one out there, not even Bowman at his best. I know some of those D were to be (and are) placeholders for our prospects but come on, they were all bad signings. ASP and Edv are coming around, and those guys will be gone by then, canning lalonde or 'yzerplan isn't working' is such a cop out, that said, he should have weaponized the cap space we had 2-3 years ago with D teams wanted to get rid of and send us picks. Look at MTL, they did it right, we should have shipped off Larkin in his UFA year, for picks, then re-signed him in off season. Kane is nowhere near where he was (That lalonde's fault he is/was hurt all year) This is a team (see larkin last year) that can't afford even one decent player being out, it all falls apart.
@JoJo-ke5yz7 сағат бұрын
@@randombutrelevant I would much rather see Raymond, Seider, Edvinsson, Kasper, Johansson continue develop this year then see Detroit tank for another pick that wont be on the roster for 3-4 years. Stevie already has what we need in the pipeline for our window. We have so many pieces to move that we can trade away more than a couple to fill in gaps. Don't care about giving up a pick to get the Cat just so that Larkin could have a linemate, worth it just for that. Moving Walman and Ghost was required to open cap space for Seider and Raymond signings and to open a roster spot for Johansson. Nobody would want Petry, Holl, or Chiarot at their preice point and I do blame Yzerman for those bad signings. Most those stop gap signings fall off at the end of this season and all of them do by the end of next season. In two years this teams is going to be flooded with young talent, I want them to land on a team that has an identity. And i dont give a damn if a new coach moves them up or down in the standings. We just don't need milquetoast ass Gru right now who cant motivate the guys even a little bit, this is no environment to develop the kids we already have on the roster.

Rolston could be a good get for the Preds but he is 23 and needs some NHL ice time to prove it. Sad for Granlund. Keeping a good thought. Hintz not playing is good news for the Blackhawks. Lauzon seems he might be out for a bit. Matheson might need more time and no sense rushing back to a team with 17 points. The Avs have been hit hard and repeatedly with injuries and it is surprising they've been still in the hunt. The Wings need that Redwood line up and knocking heads. Red Wings made some good acquisitions for this season, but they lost several of their mercenaries that kept them close last year. They have 2 new young defenseman with a grand total of 58 NHL lifetime games between them. A young Center with 19 NHL games to his name. They're playing .500 hockey, playing hard, they didn't have a crazy good start like last year. Yzerman must have known that resigning Seider and Raymond would eat up most of the cap space. They couldn't restack with mercs. So there is a LOT of coaching to do to bring the young guys up to speed and the team into contention this year. I think Yzerman knows what LaLonde is faced with and LaLonde is doing a solid detailed job. Other media outlets love to do the "Lalonde has to go" stuff and I've ignore them. Didn't even listen to their opinion. I did listen to yours - inertia is its basis. Glad you didn't have any hard reports like "they're looking for a new coach." Love your love for the game. Cheers. PS. The Wings have several more excellent prospects, saw them in preseason, but they were outmuscled in the corners, they need more seasoning.

I can't be the only Red Wings fan who looked at this team at the beginning of the season and thought the season wouldn't go in any other direction than then how its gone? They lost two of their top defensemen in Walman and Ghostisbere and replaced them with Holl and Gustafsson, a huge downgrade. and they lost Perron who was a lot of the heart of this team. They barely made it last year and now with a worse team in a division where the other teams improved more they are where they should be at. The only issue is they've played so bad that it's obvious to me that Lalonde has no clue what he is doing. They need a coach who can tighten up this defense, because the scheme they're playing right now the players can't do and that's on the coach. Something needs to change but the question is if it's too late now?
@bonesjackson818 сағат бұрын
Wings need to attempt to turn the season around and get a new voice behind the bench. Maybe with a better scheme on d besides leaving the slot open. Also stop the relentless dump and chase on offense. Maybe take a chance pairing the kids together instead of always being bogged down by a Copp, Kane or Fischer. Team speed needs to improve. At least a line. A coach that can get Raymond to take over as primary scorer. Get Mo aggressive again. Whole team is passive. It's not working.

Plus the Seider/ Raymond signing saga went for way too long and prevented them from training with the team on day one. I’ll be happy if we get a top 6 pick in the draft cause we need to be realistic about not making playoffs. Keep Lalonde for the year but look for someone else for next season.
