The small holes were likely to prevent the drain plug from falling in if you dropped it.

Yeah thats originally what is for as well as so any big bits of debris don't fall in

“It’s still dripping, I didn’t put the drain plug in because I’m smart” had me cracking up. I just recently purchased the same oil pan and my son experienced the same thing with the oil not draining fast enough. Thank you for the tip!

The root problem is that venting hole is not big enough. You solved the problem by making the capture holes larger, but could run into the problem of dropping other materials into it which could be hard to retrieve.

lol I never aim oil to go straight into the hole before as result always some oil splash and cleanup to do. Thx

Please made a video on how you cleaned up your oil pan. It looks new.

I'm considering getting one of these, but I'm thinking that drilling a few more holes would work better than boring out the whole piece so that my drain plug doesn't accidentally fall into it.

Think of it like when you're filling your motor with oil and using a funnel. The thickness of the oil and the size of the whole determines the rate of flow. Yes the hole sizeatters, but it's different rate of flow with oil vs water. I went with the bigger hole, but dropping the bolt in the would suck. The good thing is, you could get the bolt back when you pour the oil out.

That works great, The 1 7/8" drain hole did the trick. Could you post the link to get the pan? Stores in my area do not have the larger one.

I have the same drain pan and your correct about the small holes on the top I need to drill it out like that too

Nice work. I have a 10 qt. Not as deep as your 16 qt. Hope it doesn't over flow.

I just bought the 10 quart one and haven’t used it. Would you recommend it or send it back?

the problem is not the drain hole, it's the vent hole that won't stay closed...

So once this thing fills up to its max do you then take the whole cannisters to dispose? Or do u funnel it into used oil bottles
@flynlow43 Жыл бұрын
I have one. The threads on the capture hole stripped out the first time I used it. Junk.

Awesome, I'll be buying one of these right now! I had the smaller one, it was a ducken mistake! Are you changing oil in the street!? lol

why would I want to clean up that surface the oil splatters on try the Lumax, large drain area and when done you just screw on the cap. No Mess
@rafaelfox67962 жыл бұрын
Thanks for showing the video. This is not a very good design, it has a few flaws as you mentioned. THe capture area is not deep enough and small spills still occur.

I would never get those drain pans. Way too many things can go wrong to make a mess. The ones that are open with the spout are the best. Just find a 5 gallon reusable container and the chance of making a mess is greatly reduced. You can always have a bad day but so far I’ve been lucky

I got one and the poor out drain cap ding leaked even when screwed on tight.

Cut your video down to 2 minutes and you well get more viewers. Show your cheap oil pan, then show oil going into pan. Professional mechanics never use these.
@BEERSnGEARS Жыл бұрын
Professional mechanics don't lay down to do it either. If only I had a lift and the oil drain tanks they get to use. Thanks for the input.
@ham5483 Жыл бұрын
Professional mechanics have lifts and use standing catch dollys, this is for diyers, what a stupid comment
