Replace the drain plug with a Fumoto valve. This allows you to turn the flow on/off as needed. Use old bottles to collect the oil. The MOPAR 6.4L and 6.2L pass cars also use 0W-40 (Pennzoil is the current recommendation).

I’ve been putting Fumoto valves on all my vehicles now, very helpful! Never had an issue with one either.

On my car the valve is not flush with the inside of the pan and prevented about an extra cup of oil from draining. Considering half a liter is already "undrainable" with a regular oil plug/oil change, I don't want any additional oil prevented from being drained. It also greatly slows down the oil exiting the pan which in theory helps physically push some of the heavier material out of the pan as well.

In the filter part, another way I've heard is a large mcD's cup or similar sized one, crack the filter lose, place cup over it and loosen the rest of the way by hand

I appreciate the bottle idea...when I changed the oil for the first time on my 6.4, I had so many drips that I thought I hadn’t screwed on the filter sufficiently, or it was double-gasketed. Lesson learned!

Several tips I learned! I like bringing the height of the catch pan up. Also the 2 liter bottle trick for a sideways filter is brilliant! & lastly I think I will turn the extra 1 liter bottle into a funnel. 👌

The 2 liter bottle for horizontal filters is the trick! Never seen that one before. I can’t believe new gas engines run a zero cold weight oil. I have ran 15-40 in my old Chevy 6.0 gasser for years.

Great videos Nick!! I bought a 2021 2500 back in July and have been following all your videos. That 2 L bottle hack is genius!

20+ years ago I purchased a plastic rectangular-shaped concrete mixing pan at Home Depot, it was less than $10. I use it to drain oil into. It's almost always big enough to catch both oil filter runoff as well as oil pan draining stuff without having to move it. It's sides are high enough there's never any splash up out of it. At the end of my oil change I then pour the used oil into the clean oil jug(s) I just emptied into the vehicle & take it to recycling. A quick wipe with a rag or paper towel & my concrete mixing pan oil catcher is ready for the next time I need it.

Did I talk about that in the video? I have one of those too and they’re real handy 👍👍.

Hey, great tips! Unfortunately I watched this once I spilled my engine oil everywhere. Is that dangerous? What can I do about it? I have to drive my daughter to school tomorrow morning and I don't want an engine fire or anything. I was able to finish and actually get some of the quart in after I cut the bottom off a water bottle. Thank you so much!!!!!

Ah pressure on the bolt, and then increasing the height of the oil pan sounds like the answer to avoid the oil pan bounce. thx!

Dude, I thought there was something wrong with my wife’s Subaru. She would get an oil change and a month later the oil light would come on. I would be thinking they never changed the dang oil!! But they did, it just burns oil exactly like you said. I did the same thing you did, got a milk crate with a quart of oil a few rags and a funnel and left it in her hatch. I’m glad you confirmed how much Subarus burn oil.

Robert A. K, what year was her Subaru? I’m looking to get a late model Forester ‘17 - ‘20…hoping they’ve resolved the oil consumption issue by this time. Thanks!

my 2002 S10 2.2 liter has a side mounted oil filter with a factory catch funnel for the filter oil to drain into your drain pan..

Quick question: my Corolla calls for 4.5 quarts and I poured the whole 5 quarts in. This a big deal? Apart of me finds it hard to believe in this day and age that an engine would be designed for only 4.5 when all the containers are 5

Let the car sit for a couple hours, check the dipstick. As long as it’s not over max you’re good to go.

First, use a drainage tap, hook up hose, let it drain in a bottle or such, zero spills, just make sure lil hose is empty, wipe out, and store

What does your dealership say about using the Mobile oil? My dealership says use Pennzoil or the warranty is no good. What is your take on that
@NickMango2 жыл бұрын
They just say 0w40. The pennzoil push is just a recommendation.

that's not real oil. real oil comes out in chunks... which makes it a lot easier to catch.
