@@rosemarymurray8256 Yes, I do. Peter is still performing all over the US. I first heard the song in Europe as a kid. Some teenagers were having a party at night in an abandoned building as this song was playing. The music conveys a certain atmosphere having both major and minor modes. The sound and the lyrics about milk bottles bring up the imagery of a 60s European city. John Paul Jones, later of Led Zeppelin, was responsible for arranging the strings and bells. He was a big Hermits fan and a top arranger and session musician in the 1960s.

No milk today, my love has gone away The bottle stands forlorn, a symbol of the dawn No milk today, it seems a common sight But people passing by don't know the reason why How could they know just what this message means The end of my hopes, the end of all my dreams How could they know the palace there had been Behind the door where my love reigned as queen No milk today, it wasn't always so The company was gay, we'd turn night into day As music played the faster did we dance We felt it both at once, the start of our romance But all that's left is a place dark and lonely A terraced house in a mean street back of town Becomes a shrine when I think of you only Just two up two down How could they know just what this message means The end of my hopes, the end of all my dreams How could they know a palace there had been Behind the door where my love reigned as queen

My favourite Herman's Hermits song. I was sure that it was only available in mono and I think they did a very 'true to the original' re-recording in stereo. I can't be sure but I'm picking up on what I think are some very subtle differences.
@three.dot.records Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. You're right, it was released mono-only at the time. In 2015 it was remixed to stereo from the original session tapes for the first time as part of their 50th Anniversary Anthology. This version is my slight improvement on the 2015 remix (more faithful to the original mastering, better stereo width). Here is the raw remix for comparison: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZ-Qn5qbqbNpa7ssi=-linPIm_fMxBHVuO
