That's what you get for removing the valve cover every time you fill it up with oil, the cork valve cover gaskets are made for ones installment. Same with the washers under the valve cover bolts. The timing case cover gaskets should have been glued on when installed as an extra sealant because it's so hard to replace when engine is in the boat. When I saw that you remove the valve cover to fill oil I knew it's was going to start to leak. Replace it and leave it alone in the future, tip from a 25+ year auto mechanic.

Was wondering why you had not posted, glad you are all OK. Your crew that you take on board, you say very little about them why? Can we help in getting you a better mic as the sound quality is often almost indiscernible. Yes relying on a phone can be very controlling, hopefully now sorted. Sailing in the Med and especially coastal sailing with-ever changing mountain downdrafts combined with land effect and sea-breezes can be very challenging/frustrating: you will be bored to tears once you get into trade-wind sailing crossing oceans. LOL

Great vlogs thanks 😊 some advice, if you buy the cheapest baby nappies cut off the elastic bit open them up by the oil leak it will collect the oil in the bilge, secondly, you can buy gasket paste in a tube, apply to rocker cover area, remove rocker cover, clean the 'cork' gasket and then apply the gasket paste and refit, it will seal it, it can be found at any motor supply shop and in some garages , it is not expensive 😉 😀

With all those assorted length fishing lines, I would attach them to electric cable wheels for ease of use and less cord burns while reeling the fishes in....IMHO....I also do Catch-N-Release with the critter that wander in my back door(no screen door) when it is open for air to pass thru.....Check your crank-case vent or PVC stuck open???? this could be where the minor puddles are forming from....

It so funny you are so apologetic about living the cruisers life. I follow about 28 sailboats you are doing the same as you. Except they have figured out that it is the cruisers life. . You only dock your boat to do boat jobs and it is always twice as long and expensive. But that is life on the sea. Experience will you got to start some where and you two are so refreshingly honest about it. I am proud of you guys keep up the beautiful hard life at sea.

Hi Mark & Nadiyana, ah Corsica, a sweet sweet lovely place, and so too Sardinia. You will love the Madelanas. Regarding catching spillages, we keep aluminium roasting trays beneath our engine, with great success, as long as you have the clearance / access. It’s a sad fact of life, what with the current movement of displaced peoples, that boat theft, not just belongings but complete boats, has increased alarmingly. We now NEVER leave our boat unlocked. Even our dinghy tender always has the engine lock on with the tiller hard over, so if it does get taken, it will only spin in circles. Sad times. Kind Regards to you both, Barnacle Bern SY Cadbri. 👍👍

Try using two rocker cover gaskets that are laminated together. If there is a distortion in the rocker cover, the extra flex in the two gaskets may be enough to still seal. Also, use ample silicone gasket maker. A cheap solution maybe? Make sure the mating surfaces are spotlessly clean.

@rockyr7232 жыл бұрын
I say this cause I saw you did a ok job rebuilding it and and the pressure to push out oil is comeing from some where . If a vent doesn't exist I'd think about installing one a common thing is to vent to intake but this can cause issues if it ever pulls enough oil the diesel could run away .
