Playing with a band in real situation gives just pure joy to people. Not everyone wants to be a super star. For many many people it is form of relaxation, therapy and fun and has extremly positive impact for their lives.

Been playing in bands for 20+ years now. Still playing and managing to have 5-10 gigs a year (pittiful compared to 40-50 I used to have), but I'm happy. Understood fairly early that I'm never going to hit it big, especially by playing metal, but it keeps me occupied and gives me a hobby I enjoy. Work is work, but a guy needs an outlet and I do not enjoy working out, pottery or fishing nor do I have a knack/talent for other types of art. Whomever wants to start a band: go for it, but don't be disappointed - 99.99% of people don't make it in the industry, so just enjoy the process and camaradery that comes with it.

When he said there's too many artists with record deals I just laughed. The danger isn't in many many groups. The danger is in fake music being produced and created and sold.

Most people just like to play casually with friends, want to record some music they're proud of, and possibly play shows. I've made music with some friends in the past just because it's a bond and something we will have forever to be proud of. Most don't care about ever making a dime. Also what he's suggesting would destroy the gear market and the innovation we have because of it.
@louistorres
@louistorres Жыл бұрын
Man, I didn't even think of the gear market! Yes, that would take a huge hit and you're right! The camaraderie we gain with friends is everything! Also, woke up earlier and it's the first morning in eight or nine days where I didn't feel terrible! Thanks for the well wishes, Beau!!

Lois I agree with you on this one. As someone that has played in bands in a underground level for many years this sounds crazy to me. We always helped other bands out. In return it always came back your way. Thats basically how our tours were booked. We also put alot of new bands on

I dont know about the “everyone wants to tour the US cuz thats where the big $ is” If that is correct then why do half of my favorite bands go to Europe and play multiple tours before I see them once if they even come back and tour in the US? Seems its the other way around?
@louistorres
@louistorres Жыл бұрын
They all go overseas because the crowds are entirely different. You are treated like royalty when you tour overseas, there's just less of a payout, but in the US, it's a different vibe with more money. So it's actually not the opposite, although I see your point of view. I have friends in huge bands who tour globally, including one of my old bands and that's how it really is.
@clintbrown9622
@clintbrown9622 Жыл бұрын
@@louistorres I was basing that off of just what I see. Im sure there is more to it than I know and may ever know. So I also can see your point, also the treatment being maybe better? That doesnt surprise me too much. Im just happy to see and support bands on tour as much as I can. My city sucks for shows mostly but I am willing to travel a little to see bands I like.

I really don’t think it’s a money thing, I believe when he said that 24/7 line is there are so many bands out there right now you will never get to listen to them all, you will never get to hear the next big break because your listening to or following another band at the time. I would love to be in a band again, but we will have to see what the future holds!

I get what he’s saying to a degree, even though I think he’s wrong. I think everyone who wants to make music and release it into the world or wants to legitimately chase a dream in music should do it. I think that with anything though otherwise you become an old man with a lot of regrets. However, the part I understand out of what he is saying is that the whole industry has changed so much and it’s not any easier to get noticed than it used to be, in fact it’s probably even harder. The whole thing can be very frustrating and even depressing trying to get your music heard or your art recognized. You’ve really got to manage your expectations and remind yourself often that you make music because you love to and not let yourself rate its value only on your level of success with gaining a following or money from it. Basically telling people to just not even make anymore music though or even pick up an instrument is totally stupid and just bad advise. We already have a culture issue in this world with lack of attention spans and lack of drive. Statements like his don’t help.

the bigger money is in europe actually because they can jump around from country to country very quickly and have huge audiences. The USA is great as well but it's A LOT more travelling, which cuts into their profits. I think Nergal was just being a douche and implying that the metal scene is oversaturated with mediocrity but it shouldn't really bother him if hes confident in his bands success. The whole satanism shit is so cringey tbh with behemoth, or any band that themes themselves after satanism.
@louistorres

IMO being in a band is a pretty bad idea for most people, you are far more likely to get paid as a musician doing jingles or heck hoping people download your stock music. It's good if it's something you can treat like going to the gym, but I doubt that's the case. Metal has many one man bands in many genres.
