The point of color grading, from an artistic perspective, is to create your own look. So that you're not turning in footage that is going to look the exact same as everyone else who may be considered for the job turning in the exact same footage. Use your unique coloring style to help you stand out in this highly saturated--no pun intended--field of work. If you put the time into coloring your images, people will notice, and appreciate the added level of professionalism it adds. I'd strongly advise against having your footage looking exactly like some random KZbinr and his many disciples.

Important note to the photographers on here. The d-range optimizer will not work the same way for photos, unless you shoot in jpeg’s and in auto. If you do shoot in Manual and/or Raw or Raw+Jpeg, the d-range optimizer will show you lifted shadows on your viewfinder, but when you export your image onto your computer it will be much darker. So it will cause you to severely under expose your photos if on and if in manual or raw. **but yes for videos it’s great!

lol I found this out the hard way doing my first photo shoot with these settings. Come back to this video a few times to just look over some different ideas. But it’s totally fixable in post! Just have to add a couple adjustment layers lifting the shadows and highlights. Turns out great either way. Some might even prefer it for more detail in the shadows.

Can you not just save this to Custom Mode 1 or 2 like on Panasonic I have around 21 different Custom Profiles saved for all sorts of scenario, all named of course, that way I can literally flick the dial to get photo, video, whatever else, there is multiple ones for slow motion for example, there even ones with custom colour profiles and white balance for different places to photograph, indoor incandescent, outdoor cloudy etc.

I feel not everyone needs to learn how to colour grade, but people should know how to colour correct which takes five mins. Being able to reset white balance and make sure skin tones look correct is a great skill to have.

Just did this to my Sony ZV1F!!! Super Easy !! I followed the colours and left the rest on auto. Turn on background defocus. looks like studio grade. Looks great!! Thanks a ton. Would like to see what you set your levels for different mics though. Direct to the camera. I use both the rode wireless go 2 and rode videomicro. Oh ya, also the boya mm1.

Exposure settings assumes that everyone who ones a Sony has European skin tones. If your middle eastern, hispanic or olive skin its 65 IRE, dark/afro decent its 45 to 55 IRE

@@IRFAN-po5sz Yeah I 100% am, I've been shooting in HLG3 and SLOG3 before on the FX6 and the images for client work and KZbin looked amazing straight out of camera. At the moment I sold the FX6 because it was too large for what I usually do and instead I got the Sony A7RV for the 8K Recording so I can downsample it to 4K and get even better footage. For my lenses I recently got the 24-70 GM II, the 24mm 1.4 GM and 50mm GM lenses since I decided to finally invest in the G Master lenses to get the highest quality video and photos. Settings look great on this camera and I've been shooting like that for the past 3 months on the FX6 and now will do the same on the A7RV. Sorry for the late reply btw

I just set this up on my FX30 and it looks great. I realized I had to set it up in Movie mode and not use the Memory Recall. For some reason on the FX30 I can't be in any of the MR1, MR2 or MR3 modes to use custom white balance. Either way, I just set it up and it's saved to the settings, anyway.

I love the simplicity of this and the look as well! Unfortunately, I wasn't able to replicate the setting on my ZV-E10 or A7C. Although both have the older menu system, I was able to find D-Range Optimizer (called DRO/Auto HDR) and Creative Look (called Creative Style) on A7C Menu: 1 Page 11; ZV-E10 Menu: 1 Page 8. However, when under Creative Style (Creative Look) the only options are Contrast, Saturation, and Sharpness. Contrast and Saturation is limited to +/-3 on both the A7C and ZV-E10. Also, while the A7C does have Creative Style Neutral, the ZV-E10 does not. I'd love to hear what settings on these cameras would yield similar results!

The ZV-1 is similar it doesn't have NT but does also use recent Sony colour science so you can use the ST creative style I like to use Contrast -2 and saturation -2 and sharpening -3 for 4k but -1 for 1080p.

Thx for sharing. Seems overly complicated. Post-processing is obviously overkill if you want to do quick news stories etc. I have found s-cinetone more comfortable. You have to expose properly, avoid overexposure! You can tweak tones warmer, which gives on most cases more pleasant look. For more drastic feeling, tweak colder. It’s smart to set up 3 presets, regular, warm, cool. Works always with auto white balance.

Randomly throwing terms like picture profile, „creative profile“ (that doesn’t exist) and creative look together, doesn’t make you look very professional… however the results do look very good and not every creator is willing to basically give away his look formula for free, so thank you for that!

Just use Sony’s built-in S-Cinetone! PP 11 is handed down from the high-end Sony Venice camera with a baked-in cinematic look with no colour-grading required!! Amazing

Sure! I also have the a7Cii and I really like it! PP11 is all you have to do. It requires no colour grading as it is in the middle between using no PP or at the other end of the scale using S-Log 3 and spending hours tweaking and adjusting everything which I find a waste of time for say KZbin videos. It’s a nice soft cinematic look, not too sharp and with really nice highlight rolloff. You can of course still tweak and colour adjust if you want after but most of it is done for you and you don’t have to worry about what it will look like in post (editing) or if your exposure is right. Easy-peasy!!! 😎🤨😉

There are similar settings for the ZV-E10 but they're more simplified and the menu setup is not the same. It would take a dedicated video with specific settings that would hopefully produce similar results. Need some guidance from TM on this one!

People get too hung up on the base ISO thing for sure you can aim to use 800 in slog3 but going 2 or 3 clicks either way makes neglibile differemce. With PP off you can go down to ISO 80 or 100 and shouldn't see much noise up to at least ISO1600

On my A7C i got the old Sony menu with less settings i can adjust at the creative look. So can i update the software on my a7c so that i can use the neu Sony menu two? Edit: I found out that the processor cant handle the new menu, so how can i achieve the same results with the old settings. I only got "contrast" (-3 to +3), saturation (-3 to +3) and sharpnes also only -3 to +3 Thanks for the help guys!
