I bound a couple of my practice free motion quilt sandwiches and included them in a baby shower gift of a baby quilt I had made. The practice sandwiches serve as good burping cloths for a newborn or even a changing pad. My new mother really appreciated them.

Once done with your practice cute into hearts use pinking shears on the edges and check out I found a quilted heart. Someone needs that heart believe me.

The practice pieces I have hated usually go into potholders as one of the insulating layers. Sometimes they are a layer in a bag or mug rug. No one is the wiser and they get a second life that is not wasteful and more beautiful than they really are.

Yes, I fear free motion quilting. However, it is not the fear of ruining the quilt. It is tearing up the sewing machine, the needle, the bobbin, the plate, the tension, the computer settings. No dealer, no training.
