In 2018 I entered into a program to buy a truck from H&M TRUCKING INC in Omaha NE. When the new trucks were coming I got to pickup the truck I wanted, I was told that I could any modifications on the truck that I wanted. The truck was turned up so that I could drive it up to 87 mph, company trucks only did 70. I was sent a fuel solution with each load that I didn't have to follow. Yes I could only work for them, but in the agreement I was given a breakdown of the pay schedule showing exactly how much was owed with each payment. Also I had the opportunity to increase what was paid on the truck so I could own it sooner. I left H&M in 2022 with a 2019 Volvo vnl860. There was no Ballon payment and games as I neared the end of the payment schedule. That's my story in a nut shell..

In 1940, George Raft and Humphrey Bogart did a movie called, "They Drive By Night". Other than it's over 80 yrs old, the issues facing truck drivers and O/O wannabes hasn't changed much at all!! I started driving for a living in '78 and I well remember the beginnings of "flece" purchase when suddenly all the big carriers jumped on that particular band wagon. I hate seeing the Feds having to get involved, on one hand. But on the other, it has been a long time in coming. The industry didn't just shoot itself in one foot. It did so in both feet, and then bled all over the damn place! I grew up such a nice boy. It wasn't until I got involved with trucking that I saw so much back stabbing going on... as well as the very best of humanity. In my not so very humble... and exhausted experience (now retired) oversight is probably just what the doctor ordered, albeit late to the party. Thank you Miranda for staying on top of things. 😊

I paid payments on a lease purchase truck and trailer for 5 years before paying them off. I took home way more money than an employee driver and spent more time at home than one. It's not about the number of miles per week. It's about revenue per mile, and getting paid a good percentage by a good company. Unfortunately, a good company to lease o to is hard to find. If the company pays by the mile or if they don't allow you to see the rate confirmation provided by the shipper or broker, or if they forbid you to comminicate directly with the shipper or broker, don't even bother with that company.

I only have one driver at the moment and he sees everything. Chooses his own loads or accepts from the dispatcher both always keeps the expenses in mind. They pay percentage of the line haul and fuel charges. 2023 I grossed $350,000 and took home $120,000 as a solo driver that’s good pay. After October my semi truck will be paid off with no ballon payment and a pay increase of $48,000 per year take home bumping my take home pay to around $168,000 per year. That’s very good income. Two things, this 'task force' was initiated by Joe Biden who is in the pocket of the labor unions. They hate leasing because they want to unionize all truckers. What would this mean? Forced dispatch, vacation days only after approval, union dues, no freedom to own your own equipment and pay your own taxes. Trump on the other hand is going to send this puny task force packing along with many many other useless bureaucrats. You've got nothing to worry about. . Now there may ge a time when lease purchase programs to get cut if a democrat retakes the White House. The other aspect of lease purchase, being an O/O, etc. is that becoming a small business owner in trucking is the easiest thing in the world. The problem is that the vast majority of O/O or lease purchase folks have zero business trying to start or run a business. You’re running a business that happens to be trucking, not driving a truck that happens to be a business.

I did lease purchase with Prime, and learned a lot doing so, it taught me how to manage the truck and my money, I grossed over 200k and was very successful. After taxes, I still took home over 180k. At the end of the day, it's how you run your truck, fuel managment. At the end of my lease, I took home over 10k. Learn the business, ask questions, I called Prime over 20 times asking question before signing. So leasing can be a good thing.

This is always a great video from any content creator. There are many factors that will make you successful or have you fail at a lease purchase. Sadly, there are many companies that take advantage and their plan is to play the odds, which are not in favor of the driver, that the driver will give up due to lack of miles, lack of pay, lack of support and an overall feeling that they are wasting their time. 1. It's business. Yes, a crappy one but it's a business. The trucking company is not your friend. They know you will give up or the truck, even a new one, will break down. That doesn't mean be a jerk or rude. Be professional. It is what it is. 2. Read the contract. Which won't matter much from what it sounds like. Miranda is correct when there is a difference between being a L/P driver and Leasing onto a carrier. Expect to sign the contract then and there or you will get the classic, "You can't take the contract with you and sign it later, you either sign it now or you need to make a decision." 3. You need to have funds to BUY your own fuel. Do NOT depend on the carriers' fuel card to "get the best fuel discounts." That's why you need to read the fine print on the contract about everything it says you can or can't do. Especially about purchasing your own fuel. Purchasing fuel next to your WEEKLY truck payment is your biggest expense that YOU have direct control of if you have the available funds to buy your own fuel. 4. You want to be a truck owner? You want to pay off the truck that you think is yours? More than likely you won't be going home very much if at all. Don't start to complain about missing birthdays, anniversaries, special events or invites to special events. You can't go. If you go you will fall behind in payments and it doesn't take much to start down that slippery slope. 5. Make sure you are running for profit. Know what you need to make per mile. Know how much it costs to fix your brand and make of truck. Know the shop rates and know when you can save money versus having the peace of mind of a certified mechanic fixing your trucks issues. Sometimes we step over a dime to save a penny. In the long run you will learn from making bad money-making decisions. This too is controlled by the carrier. So READ what you signed and what options you have when your truck breaks down or when you need scheduled maintenance. There are more little tips on this topic, but I'll leave it at that. 6. Take yoiur 34 hour reset. Never going home to make your weekly truck payment breaks you down. Mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Take time off and take your 34 hour reset. Get out of the truck and go for a walk. Sit in the restaurant, take an Uber to the city, look at google for alternate transportation if there is no Uber, have a bike with you. But get out of the truck. My last thoughts...if you think you can just jump in the truck and the "sales pitch" has you believing that everything is going to be ok without you taking any of what I said or what Miranda has said or whatever else you have found in your search for info on this subject. Please start over and re-evaluate your perceived idea of making tons of money with little to no effort. Truck driving as a company driver is hard. Now you want to "run" the whole kit and ka-boodle? I've been a OTR driver for almost ten years.

If he wasn't only a couple years away from retiring he would buy a truck at least on with them because they are one of the few very legit companies. I think a key is to make sure you can book your own loads with the company that does the lease purchase.. or at the very least don't have forced dispatch. I had to pay weekly, there was a lump sum payment at the end, but there was no interest. I was able to work off a load board and control my own routes, income, and time scheduling, in what was only my second year in the industry. Now I have a paid-off truck that I own completely and have started my own company with my own Dot. It definitely takes commitment and dedication to make those high weekly payments, most of these are aggressively targeted for you to pay off the truck in 2 years.. but if you are serious it's not an impossible option.

I learned the hard way with Lease purchase through Windy City, had a up north truck (2013 Cascadia), drove it all the way back to Atlanta from Chicago- it was like the truck was programmed to start with the mechanical problems soon as I put a load on it (one thing after another, plus the fuel tank strap broke after I put fuel in it- had to ratchet strap it back to the truck and go to the mechanics). Got another one sitting at the mechanic shop so long it had rat droppings in it, busted head light and so on, but because it didn’t have that much left to pay I took it like a fool. From the leaking head gasket to the radiator hoses- if I were to make money being on the side of the road with that truck I’d be a millionaire. I finally said F it, worked for an owner op, stacked my bread and bought my current NO DEF truck cash and trailer. I’d say if you’re going to do lease make sure it’s with a reputable trucking company and they assign you do a drop and hook direct customer like containers or wal mart, JB hunt- the problem is these side of the road leasing companies are giving the lease truck option a very bad name and they outweigh the good ones. In essence, do it the old school way, save your money, work with someone that knows the business and can bring you along until you’re ready to step out in your own✌🏾.

A lease purchase is the worst and most disastrous thing one can get into. I had 2 companies, that I drove for as Leased OO; both contractors for Werner. I never made the type of money they promised me after paying off the truck, fuel, insurance, etc., every week. I drove 2500 to 2800 miles and my check always came between 1500 and 400 (go figure), the paycheck is always very low. Never ever believe them. These companies will give you trucks so that you pay off their trucks with your sweat and blood. STAY AWAY. It's better to work for a company that pays well per mile.

National carriers out of Irving Texas had a great lease program, 1300 weekly expenses. My bring home at 72% was 2,800-3000 a week average 3200 miles weekly, but that was back in 2014-2015
@John-dv7hu2 күн бұрын
The carrier gets free use of a truck, screws the driver by making them not able to pay for it then recover the truck. They basically get to use a truck for free and then get the truck back to sell or use with another driver.

I leased a truck with schneider SFI, for the first 3 years was ok then they asked me if I wanted to keep the truck or return it. I choose to kept it. So I had to sign another year contract and that extra years I noticed that I had a limited access to loads that I used to see on the load board regularly. With ups and downs I finally payed off the truck and that's when I see less loads for me on the load board, a lots of cancelation loads, while I was waiting for loads third party truck were getting more loads than me.

I paid for 2 trucks and a trailer via Lease Purchase. When I was leasing a truck and trailer from Hirschbach I got 80% of linehaul and 100% fsc plus I had the ability to book my own loads. That was in 2002. I still have the truck. My current 2019 Peterbilt 389 was a LP through Heniff. The truck was from a 3rd Party Finance Company and Heniff just guaranteed the loan. I had no real control of my movement but I made great money so it didn't matter. So much money that I was able to pay it off 1.5 years early. LP's aren't designed to benefit the driver straight up. You really gotta work to make it work for both parties and be smart with your money. Right now I have my own authority and the truck is doing well. I now have something to trade when I go to the dealership for a new truck.

I'm in one now. It has been fair. I'm better off than company driver. Not in a position to buy a tractor at this point, so it is a good halfway point. I have a lot of complaints that I can dwell on, but the lp isn't currently one of them.

The problem with LP is they treat you as an employee instead of a 1099 worker. They can’t tell you how long you can stay out or force dispatch. A lot are snowed just because they can say they’re owning now. A lot goes into it.

When I ran a trucking company I looked at lease purchase programs. We decided not to do it as it was not a good fit for us and our drivers. If structured correctly I have seen drivers do great at this. That being said there are a lot of companies that don't structure it for the driver to come out with a good piece of equipment and some equity to trade up. Definitely have to do your due diligence.
@incarsus4 күн бұрын
Another part of this scam is that the lease payment you make to the company is legally untaxable revenue. Because repayment of debt isn't taxable. So they buy the truck for 175k, and you pay them 275k, they make an extra 100k tax free off you assuming you are even able to finish the program.
@alantorres1064 күн бұрын
I think theyll keep it going but regulate it more bc it’s a way to keep the truck market circulated and to stop that stops a lot of money

Me personally (small carrier 15 trucks) dont like lease to purchase. 1st its hard to find normal person who really want to drive and make money 2nd majority of lease to purchase drivers like to drive till the truck broke down, and all trucks eventually will broke down. 3rd majority drivers wont do maintenance on truck, 4th they broke bumper or something more and they said thats fine.

I have been working with Gulick for 5 years. I did my research and everything she saying is correct. CR ENGLAND was notorious. Gulick has been solid and fair. We run our own freight lanes. Fuel where we want. Take routes we want. I make between 4-6k every two weeks. It’s a small company and several drivers have paid off their trucks.

I started with the company I’m with just over six years ago. I got a brand new truck through them I’m just under 900,000 miles and I paid it off about six months ago. I’m still getting 2500-3000 a week in miles., They have their own shop and just did $5000 In repairs and are only charging me $700 a til I pay it back., I know more maintenance headaches are coming so by the summer I’m going over to Walmart..

A buddy of mine been at prime 25+ yrs paid his truck off clean and clear now he's on his 4th lease. His truck is his but he has it parked cause he dont want to go out on his own. This biggest problem most of the companies (megas) pull cheap azz freight. So it definitely dont help the small fleet or one truck guy. Even if its your truck and lease on to a company your still at there mercy. The only difference is you can drop there trailer on the side of the road and go about your business.

I leased my truck through TEL and paid it off. Was pretty easy. 2200 a week wasn't bad. Net most werks was 4k. I think you have tk more than be a solo driver to do a lease. I trained teams and took all the mile pay. Pretty sweet gig and now that ive paid off the truck my money has juat gone up from there. I did however fail a lease at DART. Dont reccomend them. Tel gave me a new truck. Dart gave me an old pos.
