I don’t have Affinity Designer but I was thinking about getting it. Can you just do the hand lettering in Affinity as a vector to begin with? I know it has a pixel mode and a vector mode but I don’t know if you can convert the pixel to vector within affinity. Maybe you can give a demo/review of Affinity one of these days
@iPadLettering3 жыл бұрын
Hi Olivia! Yes you can do the hand lettering as a vector in AD - but it’s nowhere near as nice as using Procreate. Unfortunately you can’t covert the pixels to vector - otherwise that’s exactly what I’d be doing. Yes I can definitely do an AD review 😄🤗
@olivia89793 жыл бұрын
@@iPadLettering It would be a great feature for Affinity Designer to convert from pixel to vector since it can be used for both. I was thinking it was $50 US, but it is only $20 for the iPad so I'll probably get it just for fun. I know Adobe Illustrator reasonably well (I am definitely no expert, but I can use it). I think AD would not be a huge learning curve on top of that knowledge. I would be interested if you do another video on AD. Of course, I am interested in all your videos.

Hi Karin!! Further to this, I’ve watched your brilliant tutorial many times and diligently followed along. My issue is that when I convert my lettering to vecteur in Adobe Capture it’s still very bumpy even with the smoothing tool. All the paths need to be reworked in AD and it takes hours. I think it’s because the Procreate brushes I use are not smooth enough 🤔 (even with the streamline completely turned up). Do you have any tips? I’m thinking of getting your Hazelnut Cream brush to hopefully bypass this; is this your smoothest brush and can it be bought individually? Is the modern calligraphy one as smooth? Thank you for your help!! Xx

Ahh, 256px is tiny, it will always look pixelated. I recommend starting with a bigger canvas (e.g. 2560px x 2560px) and once you are finished, you can resample the design to your final size.

Thank you and I have downloaded Adobe Capture to try. Q: I’m just getting comfortable with procreate and have used it to create lettering design for coffee mugs for my family/friends to start. I bounce between doing that, creating coloring books, and items for my social media advocacy. Would Affinity be overwhelming for a none professional digital artists (can barely draw, lol) until I master procreate which seems easier?
@iPadLettering3 жыл бұрын
Hiya! Yes I definitely recommend that you stick to Procreate to start with - it’s way easier to learn than AD. You might not even need vector files if you only need small versions of your designs and for that Procreate is perfect 👌🏼

Couldn't you just import into Affinity Photo and then select and change colors where needed? Then save as svg
@iPadLettering3 жыл бұрын
Ah, unfortunately Affinity Photo won’t trace the image and create paths. In order to avoid the pixelation and blurriness we need to convert the pixels to paths, and simply saving a file as SVG won’t automatically create the paths. It would be nice if it worked though!

Very annoying, and too complicated. Multiple applications, and multiple steps. Seems like you'd save time doing the work in Adobe Illustrator instead. One app. Yes Illustrator is complicated. But at least is is one app. Don't get me wrong, I love Procreate, iPad, and the iPencil... I feel Procreate should step up their game, and make SVG a part of their software too. That would be a win win for them and for artists. Thank you for the tutorial and all the effort in the making of it, well done.
