FANTASTIC INFO! I am constantly trying for more smooth lines, less blur, etc. in this video you showed me something I did not know we had in Procreate. I have forwarded this video to,two friends. I’m also going to,give the info to some mandala artists in the app Pigment who,are looking for cleaner, clearer lines as well. Thank you BeeJay, your tutorials and projects are extremely helpful and super fun to do.

Thank you for this! I just painted a beach piece where I drew a sand dollar big so I could get the details in and then I made it smaller. It looked fine until I started duplicating it and then changing the sizing of those and by the end it looked blurry. Now I know why. So thanks for this video! 😃

Great videoBeeJay! Just to be clear, the decrease in edge sharpness applies to all of the following, correct? 1) resizing, 2) moving, 3) duplicating layers.
@JMulvy

Vector Image software is truly an incredible feat if you look into it. Essentially every pixel of a shape is given a numerical value; like points on a grid, so when you zoom in, zoom out, scale up, scale down, distort or skew, it uses math to calculate the new position of each pixel and how many more pixels need to be added in order to maintain the same quality in between previously defined points. You can literally do this infinitely without any loss in quality. However, it is extremely heavy on file size and data processing. Not just because of the math being used but each time it needs to add new pixels, that increases the vector file size, on a PER LAYER basis, not just the file overall. So if you start with 5 layers and add another five for a total of 10, you have QUINTUPLED (more or less) the file size. As far as RAM is concerned though, it basically loads the equivalent of a new file for every layer.

my main issue is with brushes. i do a lot of line art (that i then fill with color) and even when using a brush designed by another highly successful line artist, the edges are still pixelated. maybe it's not the brush so much as the canvas size? i usually choose a canvas that is the same size that i will be printing on. for example, i make stickers, and my usual sticker sheet is 3.5" x 4.43" so that's the canvas size i choose to design in. but my art is always pixelated in that canvas size... so is it okay to double it and then just size it down once i send it to my sticker software? or should i be doing something else?

I really appreciate your videos! I do have a question. Is there a way to solve my problem when I draw my characters? One character's line is a different size (thicker), though I use 37% for all of them. Obviously, when I transfer them off of Procreate onto PowerPoint, I have to resize them for my panel cartoons - it makes it worse. Would you have any thoughts on how I can fix this?

Great video. I make Twitch emotes ( plus sub badges ). I usually make them on a 3000 x 3000 canvas, then send that sized finished drawing to my pc, then resize it down using Photoshop. Seems to work ok, but they could be crispier when seen in Twitch chat. Any advice on what I can do with these. Thanks in advance
@BeeJayDeL
@BeeJayDeL 2 жыл бұрын
Since you are doing emotes, you actually want to start with a smaller canvas- beginning with something closer to the final size you intend to land on will sharpen things up.

I just got procreate and I would LOVE to use a bigger canvas but my art typically uses 30-40 layers and I tried a 4k×4k and it says that the maximum layers is 8 for that size. Is there a way around this? Thank you so much for this video btw!!
@Uniacoty
@Uniacoty Жыл бұрын
That's because your iPad doesn't have alot of ram. The only solution would be to upgrade to a newer iPad. For example I have 2021 Ipad pro, 4k×4k allows 61 layers.

My problem usually comes when I crop an image. I prefer to do my sketch traditionally and then take a picture in order to do the linework and color. Everything looks fine, but the picture may include part of the sketchbook, and I'd like to clean that part out by cropping the image, and that's when the pixelation happens. My canvas is usually pretty big, with enough DPI to have at least a few layers for painting. Am I missing a step, or doing something wrong? I know cropping the image will make the canvas smaller, but I'm at a loss here...
@BeeJayDeL
@BeeJayDeL 2 жыл бұрын
Are you just using your sketch as reference? If so…easiest thing here is to put your photo sketch on a separate layer and then delete it when you’re done. Other than that-try a canvas with bigger dimensions (DPI doesn’t have any effect with what you are seeing on-screen in Procreate…that is only going to play a role if you print.)
@PixiePrincess501
@PixiePrincess501 2 жыл бұрын
@@BeeJayDeL Yes, the photo is reference. I ink it in a separate layer and then delete it when I'm done. I did not know about the DPI, tho, but I'll keep it in mind! My go-to canvas size is usually 26"x30" and my lines don't get fuzzy until I crop the original photo...

You are also doing a hem at 500dpi. Which makes the biggest difference. Most things are printed at 300dpi max. So shrinking anything down. You already have an advantage. Your almost twice the quality of the printed piece
@BeeJayDeL
@BeeJayDeL 2 жыл бұрын
Yup, DPI definitely plays a key role when you print …but it doesn’t actually have any effect within Procreate itself when it comes to blurry lines. Procreate will display the same results if you are using a 500dpi canvas or 10dpi.
