This is one of the things that I naturally found simple with Studio One as it was also possible to do this in the old PC version of Logic Audio, so it was one of the features I found very intuitive.

I wanted to expand on my earlier comments. In simple terms, your audio waveform tells your speaker come to move forward or backward. It smoothly oscillates from forward to backward similar to a sine wave. If you cut the sine wave in two places, arbitrarily, you have a high probability that you cut it somewhere other than zero db. The worst case scenario is that you cut the first clip at the crest of a positive excursion, and then you cut the second clip at the crest of a negative excursion. If you bring both clips together, you are now asking the speaker to go from fully forward to fully backward instantaneously, that results in a click or pop. Studio One has a snap mode that will snap your cuts to zero crossings. Now when you bring the two clips together, both clips are at zero db which is almost perfect. The one remaining factor is speaker cone momentum, if your speaker is returning to zero from a positive excursion, ideally, you want it to continue moving in the same direction toward a negative excursion because of speaker momentum. If your cut results in two waves that are both positive, then your speaker has to reverse direction, returning from positive and going back positive. You may still get a click. But snapping to zero crossings at least puts your speaker at zero on both clips.

I had pops and clicks, but not on the end of the audio samples. They would randomly appear in the middle of the sample. for what I know, SO has a big problem when working in the 48kHz sample rate project. I resampled the whole project down to 44.1 kHz and it fixed my clicking problems.

Never knew about the "Ripple" effect. Is that only in Studio One 6? Or is that in 5, as well? I got 5, (finally upgraded from... 3!), just before 6 came out.. if I'd of only known... hell, maybe it's been there all along and I just didn't notice? But that's a great feature, either way. One question I have is this- how can we.. or can we even, fix a random noise, when the audio wave is basically solid? I've tried magnifying in, slicing, and then crossfading, but it just doesn't seem to be able to handle such tight audio, which is sad, when, say, someone slams a car door, during THE perfect take, if ya know what I mean. Not sure if there even is a solution for this- I've even tried comping, but the audio's so tight, it just seems impossible to fix. Hope I explained what I'm asking well enough. Thx in advance, for any response.

A. You dramatically reduce your chances having a pop at all if you use the snap to zero crossing function in the same way you choose snap to grid. If you turn off snap to grid and turn on snap to zero crossing it will microscopically move your edit point to a location where the waveform is zero. You get pops you cut at a point where you have a cut at a say a peak of a positive wave excursion and the adjacent clip might be at the peak of a negative excursion. Obviously this is worst case scenario but if clips are cut at a zero crossing then it is already dy a smooth transition. Instead of going instantaneously from +12 db to-12db.

Hi Joe, great videos as usual. I used to use Logic on the PC (yeah.....old guy here), and they had a command called "silence" and basically you highlighted a section, hit "silence" and it took all the audio to zero. I totally get fades and crossfades in Studio one, which is what I'm using now. But why doesn't Studio One have that "silence" function?

It happens when a wave form isn't at a zero crossing, on Logic back in the day that happened a lot pre-Apple owning them. S1 I don't get it as often.

Wouldn’t you use Sample One XT for that? I know it’s not a transient shaper. But you can edit (audio) samples and one-shots.

I thought this would help but my pops and clicks are in the middle of some full length verses, cant just chop and make them come together then crossfade
@gullcreekstudio1391
@gullcreekstudio1391 Жыл бұрын
You will literally have to split the audio close to where the sound is. Then...thru trial and error...keep adjusting the split ends until you find the click. Then you might get lucky and be able to crossfade the ends together and not notice it to bad. We've been asking for a wave editor for 5 years

what if i have midi files and that click is there ...X and cross fade dont help :(
@cnking27
@cnking27 4 ай бұрын
I'm pretty new and only replying in case it helps, I don't think that should be happening in a midi track. I'd solo that track to make sure that's where it's coming from first. If it's happening between cuts in audio I'd copy the notes from the later take, move or remove the cut point, and paste those notes into the earlier take and get rid of that cut altogether. If that doesn't work there's probably a problem with the midi instrument, it might be turned up to high and have a clipping issue or something.

Why not make auto micro fades and crossfades when cutting audio as Ableton does and save us even more time?! ;)

Honestly, studio one could auto fix that pop - I waste a lot of time microfading clips. Plus, I miss snap and it’s a pain to go back to crossfaded parts.
