Trevor finally got fed up with his 285/70's rubbing on his body cab mount. Or should I say he finally convinced me to take care of that pesky problem.
Metal Tech 2014+ 4Runner Body Mount Chop Kit is super straight forward and completely DIY, as long as you are familiar with minor fabrication work.
Some metal cutting, some welding, some grinding and bingo you are done.

I haven't seen a BMC done in this direction most run lateral with it and just tuck it back some. I do like the looks of this though.

Trevor’s rock sliders on the 4Runner are actually Victory 4x4 and he hates them. They flex too much and won’t hold up to a big hit.

The solution is for Toyota to get their heads out of their a**es and stop advertising vehicles as "off road" and you can't even put 33's on it.
@AdventureBuilt
@AdventureBuilt 3 жыл бұрын
Well technically it can go off-road and does fairly well. Of course you are correct, the ground clearance is horrible.

Not too many BMC videos out there that are so in depth and detail oriented. Thank you for this. How will the new metal material fare against rust? Just like any other frame spot?
@AdventureBuilt

Hunter Aleman thank you very much. We try to get it all in there. We have the outside a really good coating of paint. Obviously the inside is bare metal but it’s completely welded so there shouldn’t be any way moisture can get in there. Cheers.

As a welder. little tack stitch welds never look good anyway. I know Im gonna get called out for being an internet expert😂 but wouldnt it have been better to jack the body up to separate the chassis and mount. avoid all the time consuming cooling
@AdventureBuilt
@AdventureBuilt 4 жыл бұрын
rota m8 good advice but I think the time spent separating the frame would have equaled out to fully welding the piece. But you are right stitch welds never look as good. Wish I had a TIG and some skills!!! Thx for watching.

No the full plate has to face the tire since the whole purpose of the cut is to give the tire more clearance.

I assure you we took off as much material as we could to still be able to get the inner bushing back in. It works perfect with the 33” tires.

I've been iffy on the body mount chop. But. I'd really like to run bigger tires. This along with the high clearance bumper chop should clear a 305/75/17? Fingers crossed
@AdventureBuilt
@AdventureBuilt 3 жыл бұрын
I honestly think a cab mount chop is the least to get the clearance you need. You should clear the 305 easy. Best of luck.

Why doesn’t Toyota just change the body mount design, it’s not like it’d be expensive to change to a shorter mount, and a ton of people do this mod

The kit that you linked in the description pulls up a straight metal set on the pictures. Looks like the ones you guys are using is bent at an angle. Which ones did you order for the bent pieces?
@AdventureBuilt
@AdventureBuilt 4 жыл бұрын
I just checked the link and those are the ones we used. The bend is very slight and doesn’t show up in the picture. Unless they changed the design it is the same product number as the ones I ordered. Hope this helps. Good luck with your project. Let me know how it turns out.

For someone who does not have welding experience is it really necessary to add that piece of medal to close up the cut? Or will the bushing be fine if left exposed?
@AdventureBuilt

Structurally yea you have to add the metal back after the cut. There isn’t enough support in the bracket with a huge hole in it.

@RadioReprised
@RadioReprised 2 жыл бұрын
Yes it will and at an angle that gives more clearance than this....and you don't need to weld a ''cap'' on it as the piece is high strength steel that is more than strong enough to support the cab. The reason this mount is long is it is there for wheel intrusion in a crash to meet crash tests. Cut it with a sawzall at a angle like the tire makes as it swings through it's arc, hit it with black primer and walk away. Took me 20 minutes per side and no removal of mounts because there's minimal heat with the saw.

Why not just get rid of the spacers?
@AdventureBuilt
@AdventureBuilt 3 жыл бұрын
The spacers on the body mount. Then your body will sag where you removed the spacer. Your cab is being held onto the frame evenly with the body mounts and those rubber spacers are there to absorb shock from the frame to the body.

@@static_skill8162 Gotcha. Trevor needs the wheel spacers in to keep the wheel from rubbing the UCA. He got new method wheels and they still would have rubbed. The front cab mount is completely in the way of the wheel travel on any side 33" or larger. Its a terrible design.

Would you have had rubbing without the spacers on the stock TRD Off Road wheels? I'm looking at the exact same lift, keeping stock tires, and was hoping to avoid having to do a BMC on my 2020 TRD ORP when moving to 285's and the Ironman lift.
