Very good tip about decorative stitches! I've never seen this one before, nice and creative 🙂.

Love the idea of adding a message. That has sparked the idea to add the size so when I pass my little one’s clothes on the receiver will know the size. Another great idea. And this will make the back of the garment.

I love #4 ❤ I have a 1950's Necchi that has decorative stitches I never use, well here's a great use for them! Definitely going to give it a go, thank you!

The custom / personalized message in the seam is a Winner 🏆. My Viking machine has a lettering feature. It's always nice to learn new way to use them.

For the overcast stitch, you could also lower the tension to reduce pulling. On the Brother computerized machines, this can be done individually for each stitch pattern and saved in memory.

I’m beginning to stay stitch more now👍although pinking shears were used. I have a regular sewing machine and a serger. No fancy computer machine. I like non computer stitch machines and no cam disks machines so if need be I fix maintain my own machine. I can open it up and replace belts oil etc my own but on a computer machine with a motherboard you cannot service it then, you will have to take it to a pro fixer. I started on a treadle foot pumping singer then came electric. 😊

Thanks for this. I'm back to sewing after a long hiatus. I referred to my machine manual (Janome) and revisited all the overcast/overlock options they had. I tried them all to see what would work for my current project because the fabric is rather "ravelly" . I usually just use a zig zag stitch (that I learned 50 yrs ago) because it's faster and uses less thread. But I will try the embroidered edge finish. So pretty. I would even use it as a hem finish.

My sensitive skin cannot tolerate sewn in labels. I love the idea of sewing a message into the seam allowance!❤

Love your clear explanations. Have to admit, I've been overcasting without special foot & unhappy with results...duh, right?:)). Like the idea of labels in seam allowance. No one likes the feel of labels scratching their neck, side. Thank you for your videos!!

Great ideas! I am not much of a fan of using the serger and prefer doing everything on the same machine, so I tend to use a lot of zigzag. I will test out different methods for my projects now.

Good morning! Such nice added touches. Not just for durability but as an added "I did this garment" inner smile. Have a fabulous today, Steph

The first overcast foot I bought doesn’t have that small bar in between. I didn’t like how it works with overcast stitch, because, like a universal presser foot, there’s pulling of the fabric. But when I bought my Singer machine, it came with an overcast foot with the bar. What a relief! Now all 3 are my must haves whenever I’m sewing. 1. Overcast foot with the bar for Zigzag or overcast of the seams. 2. Overcast foot without the bar for topstitching or narrow hemming. 3. Universal presser foot for the rest of the sewing.

I love the overcast stitch. The seams of my clothing look so much better. I don’t have the alphabet stitches, but have decorative stitches.

Love the message in the seam. I normally do a zigzag or one of the overcast stitches with my brother side cutter. I don’t have a serger. I have though few times done the straight stitch with a zigzag.

The side cutter presser foot is such a great tool!👍 It’s one of the tools I wish I’ve known years ago, before I got my serger - would have been so handy🤗

Hi! the timing of this video couldn't be more perfect because I'm working on a project and honestly dreading the finishes, so thank you! I have a question when it comes to overcast stiches. My fabric tends to bunch up in the zigzag side of it... like, when the needle goes off the side and back, the thread folds the edge back and creates an infuriating bulk, and this usually happens when I'm finishing one layer of fabric as opposed to two. Any idea how I can fix that? Granted, I'm so happy you're showing us alternatives, I just wanted to understand this issue. Thanks 🤍
