As of right now, I believe that she is leading the WNBA in rebounds, period. I think she just over took Asia Wilson. People are just gonna have to realize that, not only has her game translated to the pros, she’s actually a factor. What pushes Angel ahead in the ROTY race is that she is that, Angel is breaking WNBA records, not just rookie stuff. When Candace Parker broke the consecutive double double record she had been in the WNBA for seven years. Angel is shorter than Candace and broke that record as a rookie. The other thing that you’all should know is that Angel is now leading the WNBA in rebounds. Again, Angel sets her self apart from Caitlin by breaking league records and leading veterans in categories.

@al_wick4282 Yes. Clark is a good rookie with a spectacular 3pt but she needs to develop skills at other kinds of shots to get elite. And her turnovers problem can't be blamed on teammates cause she had it at Iowa two. Reese of course tries to get her missed shots (by the way tho not a good one her shot completion % is still better than Clark's). As you point out Clark is only breaking rookie records, kinda, players like Bird entered with less hoopla so had l ess playing time(same with College) hence she's really not breaking 'first play to reach..." records. Reese has, unless I'm confused the all time double double record period: she's already a giant. Not to mention her league leading ( isn't she a but ahead of Wilson?) Rebounds and her 15/15s. No hate for Clark: she's a good player for a rookie, a spectacular 3pt, but lots of flaws to overcome (like her weakness playing against much taller women which are a lot lol) Reese isn't to , unlike Lil C l ark to be judged by rookie standard but already as a Great player among full grow.women. it's preposterous to consider Clark over Reese for the award.

@icitnow4 ай бұрын
Hi Quita-I have been wanting to ask you a few questions about the Sky. I know you're a huge fan. As an outsider-I love the Liberty (but I love to watch a bunch of teams in the league) First off, I think Angel is very talented. She'll only get better, as she gets more and more experience, learns things from the vets, and gains more skills. Along those lines (and I am no coaching expert but I think I know a few things about basketball) I was wondering what YOU thought about this. My feeling is that the Sky could be stronger-esp in the post (and maybe overall, since "inside" opens up outside and vice versa) if Angel : 1. started to develop a midrange game. Faking a shot from outside, maybe like from the elbow, or 15 feet out from the baseline and driving and popping a shot, or driving to the basket after faking. After she started to develop said shot, she could then get a high post pass, and fake, and pass to Kamilla. High Low. As it is, with both Angel and Kamilla in the game, defenses can cheat (and I see this often) and more easily guard both Angel and Kamilla since they're basically in the same position. Another thing that is part of the equation, is if Kamilla is in the game-she needs to post up more authoritatively. She's friggin 6-7 215-220? Look at Kalani Brown and Teara McCowan. They (esp Teara) call for the ball after getting position and holding it. (Same with Griner too, but Griner is maybe a bit more skilled than all of them, at the turnaround jumper.) If Angel's midrange develops-WATCH OUT! She will be more dominating. Kind of like Napheesa but maybe a bit bigger. ( I think Angel's true height is about 6-2?) Napheesa is so dangerous because because she can drive, do an over and under; do an over and under-step through, drive, stop and pop, and fake the drive and shoot from where she is on the court (outside). I think Angel is a tremendously gifted rebounder, for being undersized (compared to Kamilla, Teara, JJ etc). She is relentless. If she had more an outside game, it would keep defenses honest. The bigs would have to defend her outside and try to keep her from going inside-maybe having to double. That would open up the outside-Mabree, Carter, and Izzy too. Anyway....my long, drawn out hot air here. About your topic: My thing is-looking at facebook, Twitter, KZbin etc, the debate about how great a rebounder Angel is silly. She's an amazing rebounder, and no- it isn't her own misses-which is kind of illogical to think you'd be able to grab your own misses at that rate since the defense would have the upper hand after a shot). Is it her teammates' misses? (every basketball player goes for offensive rebounds) Sure, but it's also defensive rebounds. You know WHY this debate occurs though right? It's due to that other rookie's fans who are trying to denigrate Angel and anyone on the Sky due to the other rookie's "stans." That's my opinion.

When Angel Reese gets those offensive rebounds that some don't want to count. Does the other team leave the floor or something, how does she do it so much? Does she not have opposition? Or is she just simply better at getting rebounds than her opponents? Hummmm!

Let’s say 2 rebounds a game are from her own shots (rounded up from 1.6). How many double doubles would she have lost out on this season. Just curious. Seems like most games she has 12 or more boards anyway (so she would still have doubled up). Right?

When you have a split second to get a good look at the rim, and are getting pushed, shoved, bumped and grabbed all night, yeah you're going to miss a few. But putting your own shot back in the basket for a score with all that going on around you is like the ability to make a 3 point shot. It is a skill and an ability.

It’s mostly CC Stans saying that about Angel getting her own rebounds, because they want to discredit her. It’s incredibly sad because they don’t even understand basketball, they just know what it gives them a thrill to see and hitting logo threes gives them a thrill to see while playing great defense and getting rebounds does not, so they try to discredit Reese because she’s in competition with Clark for rookie of the year.

How can Angel be leading the league in a statistical category and break a record in double doubles and not be the ROY? That is saying that she is dominating the league as a rookie in a category and double doubles is saying that she has been the most consistent in league history in double doubles. If it translates into getting her team into the playoffs she has to be the ROY

I did some research and found that only 53 of Angel Reese's rebounds are from missed shots. So that means 11.88% of her total rebounds are from missed shots. Looking at offensive rebounds only, it is 30.81% that come from her missed shots. So you are correct saying that the majority of her rebounds don't come from her missed shots. But almost a third of her offensive rebounds come from her missed shots. Resulting in her being able to get 15 consecutive double doubles. You just stated that she almost didn't get the 10 points to make a double double at the end of a game. The game was won. There was no need for her to force a penalty at the end of the game. Other than to pad her stats for a double double. After the 3rd rebound she should have passed the ball out to a teammate. Against the Fever, she stayed in to the end of the game after the game was lost to bring up her stats. Now, when it comes to your statement about how great she is at putting herself in a position to get her own rebound off of her own miss. I don't see things like you do. The other teams never box her out after she shoots. A basic fundamental of basketball. As soon as the ball goes up, the defense is supposed to block her out while at the same time looking for the rebound. There are times when nobody from the defense even approaches her while she is shooting because they take it for granted that it's going in. Angel shoots wild shots under the basket and has little to no control of the ball at times. Some are seeing it as she's shooting poorly to increase her rebound stats. I see it more as poor shooting and lazy defense combined has made it look like Angel is doing it on purpose. As for the stat padding, you can see it clear as day at the end of some games. She cares more about her double double record than winning. Once she learns how to play as a team then she will become a great player. Until then we can onlybwait and see what happens.

First, we're only talking about 19 of her 86 offensive rebounds on the season. Removing them completely from her total is a fairly unreasonable thought exercise since all of the best offensive rebounders have at least some portion of their rebounds coming off their own misses. But even if you removed them completely, her offensive rebound percentage would only drop from 16.2 percent to 11.1, which would still be the second-best mark in the league this season.
