I am watching this over and over and over. Gorgeous amazing music by two masters. This music keeps Chick alive forever. What a treasure trove he left. And Stanley is a national treasure.

I am so glad I got the chance to see him with Gary Burton. And two nights playing the Kansas City Symphony. He played Mozart's 23rd piano concerto. They gave him intermission to improv. 1st night he pounded out KC Blues. The third night he played a flamenco piece and split up the audience to sing different parts by row. He was pointing at the different orchestral sections and audience back and forth and conducting an audience participation masterpiece. It nearly brings tears to my eyes as I remember. What a musical gift to this world. I discovered him as a kid in the 90's and am pained by the thought of never being able to take my kids to see such an experience. Thank you God for the fleeting gift of beauty you give to the world through people like these!❤

Mine also. I love this tune. On one tour when I saw RTF, they would do this tune, and Chick would break into a Brubeck like blues swing, with Lenny White switching to brushes for a few minutes, then take it back to the great melody. It was magic. I saw them twice that tour.

So incredibly happy to have found this video! Almost two decades ago, I spent about a year learning this by ear. I'd digitally slow it down on my Pentium 100 so I could get my head around all of the fast runs (pre-internet and pre-online chord chart days) so that I could perform a solo piano version for my music college audition. Muscle memory is still mostly there after all of that time, but even back I've got absolutely nothing on how chick actually plays it! I love seeing how he's voiced this chord or that, plus the turn of beautiful sequence at 1:42 remains one of my favourite chord progressions in music. Stanley plays like a boss throughout. Thank you for re-recording this beautiful, meditative piece.

This is the song that inspired me to explore jazz further when I was a senior in high school. Well, you may find this wonderful, or sacrilege, or a bit of both (as I kinda do)...But - you should check out Return To Forever - the Anthology. They remixed Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy, Romantic Warrior, and most of both Where Have I Known You Before and No Mystery. I really wish they'd done all four albums in their entirety. Anyway, it's a new digital mix that more or less follows or attempts to improve the original, in the vein of the Genesis remix series or Steven Wilson's King Crimson remixes. Well worth picking up, especially if you're really familiar with the original versions. My verdict = some things are much better, especially on Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy, but some of the cool effects are missing or changed on Romantic Warrior in particular.
