Building an outback tourer? Or just keen to see what this weapon is about? Here is a
Run Through of the vehicle formally known as “Big D” “Big Delicious” or “The Missile”
Its a Jap Import 2009 Mitsubishi Delica D5
We have crossed the Simpson Desert with ease, its setup to explore, create adventure and to turn heads.
Hopefully this inspires more people to look out side the box of the big heavy rigs, do you really need a 3-4 Tonne Rig?
The Delica performed brilliantly across the whoops even while fully loaded.
Which the Heavy Prado and 79 couldnt maintain that same pace. We put this down to the Lightweight of the Delica D5
Custom Delica, D5 Build, Delica, D5, Mitsubishi Delica, Mitsubishi Delica D5, JDM, 4x4 Van, 4wd Van

Nice to meet you! I am Japanese and my father drives the latest Delica D:5 with 2.2L diesel turbo engine. I appreciate that you drive the Delica D:5 despite the fact that it is a Japan-only vehicle. The latest model has an 8-speed automatic transmission and an AdBlue-compatible diesel engine, and the front face has been redesigned so that it does not look like the same vehicle. It is very upscale, quieter and more comfortable to drive. We hope you will come to Japan and test drive it.

We demand that Japan should include Delica ranges to Australia and not just exclusive. So unfair. We want to test the van out around the Australian Outback. Best place to drive it too.

Nice show Lads, I have a 2014 2.2l diesel D5 (with an IDrive) with the the 6 speed "evo" auto trans with the low range and central diif lock, and 245/70 R16 to give it a bit of lift and some bigger feet and I love it. It's great on fuel, goes like a rocket when I want it to and is the best van I have ever owned (this is my sixth van). Looking forward to the series.

Hey, I'm glad that your video was suggested to me and I think it's great that someone has tackled it to show what the Delica D5 can do, I'm super excited about the 4 episodes, because the little insights in this video mean something to me I am more happy with my 2007 Delica D5, but unfortunately I have to wait until it is shipped to Germany and to install all the off-road accessories that I also ordered to drive to the most remote places in Europe

Great rundown mate. Nearly got one of these before I fell for the drive feel of the T6. Looks like an awesome setup. Hope you're careful with how much weight you load on the roof, looked like a Rola titan tray plus you said 120L fuel and shower awning and another big kit bag, must be over 150kg all up... Apart from the potential shear on those lovely filmed sand corners (see Tyler's rack vid from Fraser) just the raised centre of gravity would need some careful management. I think with frontrunner I can put almost that much up there but will be trying to minimise. Great rig, stay safe.

My dad owns 1997 diesel delica and 2006 d5 for about a 15 years. Pros of d5: super comfy, plenty space, much better ground clearence than competitors Cons of d5: very slow, driving components arent really meant for heavy hauling and offroading since its based off smaller outlander crossover. Offroad Capabilty is aight at around similiar as rav4s and outlanders duh. We gets to change the every bushings and wheel bearings almost twice a year its very costly. Several people reported that transmissions fail easily after heavy pulling or overheating during in mud and sand. I wouldnt really recommend this van for offroading its very fragile thing. Either way awesome build. However 1997 one just doesnt wants to die. Its such a unit i love it soo much

Big follwing in Japan. I would love to own one. Best wishes from Japan. I think there is something wrong with Mutsu's management for keeping D:5 Japan only. It could compete with T Hiace and there is nothing like it. This is not a competition to BOF off-road monsters, but it is great for camping. I only wished Mitsu would add spare tire and adjustable steering wheel in the current facelifted version. Apparently there are plans for next gen Toyota Hiace to compete with D:5 to some extend, That woudl be awesome. I own a Forester and am happy with it. Unfortunatelly sliding door are just amazing with kids, camping and hunting.

@raingersupplyco4922
@raingersupplyco4922 Жыл бұрын
The lift was done poorly. It wasn't aligned right and needed castor pins and new bushes and a few tweaks and adjustments to get the right alignment. When we first got it, the steering was shuttering, and the car was pulling crazy to the right, but Delica garage fixed it all up for us as they are experts. I took it to 5 major wheel Tyre mechanical places, and they all told me it was not possible to correct but Delica garage Yamanto did wonders on it.

Nearly identical running gear. Built on the same manufacturing line. A few things are different like larger rear calipers and a few tweaks to things like hoses and transmission cooler mounts as examples but essentially identical to the 2.4L model. All parts can also be bought online at sites like Amayama for cheap. Parts diagrams widely available on parts sites too.

UK owner for two years and I can confirm @DiscoFang comments. Just find yourself a decent trustworthy mechanic, reassure them you will deal with any parts search headaches for them and use Amayama. I guess as an import that was never sold in Canada (as with UK), it is never going to be as convenient as buying (say) a Landcruiser or a Defender, but I can tell you it's excellent value, refined, rust free and brilliantly reliable. I can't believe mine is 2007.

Don't really need to do any improvements at all. Although lift kits are widely available in Japan (proper kits with all the required mods for rear camber adjustment) the standard D5 4WD from the factory actually has higher ground clearance than the previous generation Delica L400.

@@raingersupplyco4922 Haha Are you serious?? ALL the 4WD models come with a trans cooler. The radiator is in front of the left-front wheel. The air intake is that slots next to the spotlight. Look in there you'll see it. It's fed from the heat exchanger that is attached to the CVT, accessed under the battery tray. That exchanger has a small filter that should be changed at the same time as the trans service.

The CVT is actually excellent. Lots of people tow boats and small campers with them. I regularly tow 1ton with mine and sometimes a digger that weighs about 1.6ton with the trailer. The manufacturer spec towing max is 1.6ton.

No, we didn't need to rebuild it, it was in very good condition we just chose to put new fluids in and a new filter, CVT is generally good as long as you maintain them.
