I have a dodge grand caravan "VAN". We all it a mini-van here where I live. I can't go off road with is so not great for getting into the bush, but it is awesome for traveling and I can sleep in it when I travel. So for just getting away for a night or for a long road trip, it works well.

Thanks for showing what can be achieved on a budget , I have a 2001 Mercedes ml320 , cheapest AWD around at less than 5k ! probably less than the price of a gear box for a Landie 😆. 4wd van, still not convinced, enjoy hanging out with us down south. Good call on the gas, although wild and remote camping you will mostly be ok. A lot of the designated National park areas will want you to use their fire pits.
