Such a insane calculation by Magnus finding the draw instead of going for the win in a completely winning position. Watched it live and even the commentators couldn't belive it
@treatb0910 ай бұрын
I was shocked at that queen g7. No one expected him to force a draw. Let alone in however many moves. It was legit genius play. Probably the best game ive ever seen i think. Magnus vs fabiano was really something in this tournament.

At 9:07..... Why not take the pawn on d4 with the rook? I keep my defenders for c1 and it prevents the bishop taking e4....

I checked it with an engine, and that's actually one of the better moves. Idk why, but sometimes Agad shows weird lines.
@preparedsurvivalist224510 ай бұрын
Jeez, it looked like there were 100 squares on the board and 80 chess pieces. They were spread out over the entire board with each sides king being attacked, along with a lot of central activity. To even try and understand the move order and all the possible lines is mind boggling. This is one of those games where the game was PLAYING the PLAYERS, not the other way around.

Nice commentary as usual, one thing though, I think you people should talk about the championships being played, like the next games, how are the standings etc. It's quite curious how nowadays we don't have easy access to what is happening in the chess world.

I wonder if winning with Black in Armageddon should yield more points. This could encourage Black to play more greedily and strive for more than just a draw

Isn't Armageddon primarily used for determining the winner in a tied match? As far as I know, there aren't any points awarded during this phase of chess tournaments.

The precise attack on Black's King was so irrational during real time play, especially when White needs to sacrifice the Knight twice. I think only magicians like Tal would dare to play such moves on the board.

We're in the chess golden age and need to enjoy it while it lasts. With the rise of video games and the strength of chess engines, less and less youngster's are going to be spending the time (their whole life) becoming as good as people like Fabiano or Magnus.

At 11.40 why didn’t Fabi just take careens bishop if carlsen than takes fabi queen then fabi takes his queen
@crugy710 ай бұрын
After the moves you mentioned, Carlsen plays Rf1+ and is up an exchange Full line: Bxd6 Nxh2 Nxg7 Rf1+ Rxf1 Nxf1 It looks dead lost for white Edit: Having watched the video for another 20 sec after the point you mentioned, you can see that they entered this exac position, only by first taking the queen and then Bxd6.
@Najdorf_10 ай бұрын
Because at the end of the variation, it results in the same position, after Fabi takes Magnus' queen (Nxg7), there's Rf1+ Rxf1 Nxf1.
