2 Corrections i have to mention for this vido. 1. The vast majority of anti tank weapons work with HEAT or Tandem rounds which simply means its either a beam created by the explosion of the round that cuts into the tank or that paired with a explosive round that destroys the reactive armor of a tank befor the shaped charge takes effect. This sort of ammunition is easily negated by the layered protection of these tanks including something like a javelin if its any of the itterations that has a reinforced top with not just wooden boards and some wire mesh but as seen in some examples, actual concret roofs. 2. These DIY project tanks arent intended to face off in combat, most carry some ammunition since as mentioned their main armament due to the construct around them essentially functions like a WW2 tank destroyer. However they are still capable and sometimes intended to face off against infantry by i.e lobbing high explosive rounds into buildings or trenches, treelines etc. whilst drawing anti tank fire allowing APCs and IFVs to deploy their troops with less risk of losing said vehicles and their crew to anti tank fire. Similar works for drones, instead of having a cheap FPV drone destroy tanks or drop explosives into infantry mounted on a vehicle or onto one stranding infantry in the middle of an open field in the eye of an enemy MG emplacement, these tanks block drones from getting close whilst remaining mostly invurnerable to said drones and most anti tank weapons essentially having them function more as support vehicles like engineering vehicles since as seen in the video they can be equipped with EOD tools like a mine flail essentially turning them into a hard to kill mine clearing vehicle that can take charge towards enemy positions through mine fields or anti tank fire. Still any tank or strong anti tank weapon like most guided anti tank missiles can destroy them with a well placed hit to the front since these older tank models dont have the strongest frontal armor.

The tank just doesn't seem practical, that much visibility reduced to maybe stop 2 drones, when someone can just target it with a Javelin or other anti-tank weapons from any of its many blind spots, even when it's just used as a supply truck, i don't think the tank is good at all due to such limited sight
@pshh-pshhАй бұрын
@@CROMSTER a few remarks 1) There have been confirmed videos where turtle tanks successfully survived attacks by more than 10 fpv drones 2) They are still vulnerable to javelin, but the problem is getting close to the tank for a shot - the battlefield is controlled by drones (observation and fpv), and I don't remember the last time I saw a tank hit from javelin 3) visibility from the tank is decided by control from a drone hanging over the battlefield, or a regular webcam that is installed inside. Turtle tanks are pretty good, although they are not a game-changer, if they were useless, no one would make them in such numbers.
@dauzlee2827Ай бұрын
@@pshh-pshh javelin is the reason why the Russian briefly stop using cope cage. It was not until the battlefield change from urban area (where javelin is very useful in shorter range) to open field area of Donbas where javelin become less useless, the Ukrainian themselves prefer to use their own indigenous ATGMs and FPV drone that have longer range than javelin, and because they are running low on javelin anyway

These have also been used as part of main assault formations. The main gun simply doesn't need to rotate that much. The frontline is clear and linear*, and where the actual fighting happens, the infantry is already dislodged. *that's why Ukraine opened a new front despite lacking manpower. The turtle tank concept started with the DPR forces (mostly made up of locals from the eastern parts of Ukraine that is pro-russian), they have always been more underarmed compared to the russian armed forces which has led to them always looking at "ghetto"-style solutions to problems on the battlefield. This turtle design they made was actually super successful because it led an assault that marked the first meaningful advance around Krasnohorivka in a long time. Personally I like the word "battering tank" more, because that's the main purpose of it. Be at the head of the column, clear mines, soak incoming projectiles (mainly by a large margin FPV drones), make a hole in the line and then the column follows up on its success. It was never meant to help against artillery or something like a javelin, because the purpose was to launch an armored assault and be quick in order to avoid effective artillery, advanced anti-tank systems though will obviously knock it out. But FPV drones and artillery is the largest threat on the battlefield in Ukraine, and it's made to counter both, which it doesn't do perfectly but at least it's a cheap improvement. Just think about it logically, your tank gets tasked with being the front tank.. would you want to cover your tank up with more defense making it harder for FPV drones to penetrate weak spots? I think the answer is obvious lol.

@luigimrlgaming9484Ай бұрын
@@KasumiRINA Yeah, and they’ve almost completely pushed Ukraine out of Lukhansk at this point. This war was a slow war but the end is in sight now, and Ukraine has broken first. @NiitroxydeАй бұрын
Not that big of a deal since those tanks are purely for support roles. All they need to do is jam/attract the drones, clear the mines and provide cover for the rest of the detachment. It's certainly not a perfect solution but it seems to work better than just throwing a shiny new unmodified T-90M in its place, and for cheaper too.
@TaitLawrence-xl2xbАй бұрын
Yeah, thats what tanks are going back to, WW2 and the Cold war were the Tank era, now with drones surveilling everything allowing quick artillery and even bombs to be dropped from them. Tanks are no longer what they were before and the turtle tank resembles an attempt to modify a tank to the new kind of warfare
@superspies32Ай бұрын
It was the temporary solution during the time Ukraine lacked of artillery shells due to the support pack from US be halted at congress. Those tanks slowly disappeared in June after the artillery shell supplies arrived. I bet that those will returned when Ukraine low on arty shell again.

You seems to not know anything and these videos are not helpful, these tanks are not even have ammunition because these tank are not being used for combat, it is being used for clearing minefield, clearing the path for the column of other tanks and IFVs, because in a assault front vehicle is the most important part of the column, more accurate name is "battering tank".

It reminds me when french media had fun because north korea sold 5 million artillery shells to Russia, pretending this is a "weakness"... Before people start mocking this scrap metal heap understand that the town were it was deployed at is now firmly under Russian control. Krasnohorivka pre war population of 50000 was for ten years like Avdiivka fortified and was mined all around. This Turle tank was able to clear a way thru mine fields allowing Russian units to enter the town and after 3 months the inner city was taken with only the outskirts left after the Ukrainians withdrew the Russians have been using the town as a base to attack the direction of Kurakhove a massive settlement which was acting as a forward base for the Ukrainians. If the turletank didn't exist Krasnohorivka would have been a longer costlier battle for the Russians. Don't need to be pro Russian or Ukrainian to see that effect

@@divinesan7786and this turtle tank notoriously hard to counter with only FPV Drones. Even without ECM it take multipme drones to break through the shell, and many units even soldered ERA to that cage to increased the number of drones required to. Its only weakness for drones is the track, which very hard to hit for tradirional FPV drones due to signal become unbearable when the drone flied too low. Later on US speciallists have to help UA install Machine Learning AI to FPV drones to recognize the track and automatically adjust the drone. But it still take a lot of works to disable this thing.
