Only thing you forgot to add on your math is the price of the car. You spent $50k on a car, meaning you would have to drive 5-6 times (over 200k, based on your gas saving calculations) miles for you to have any kind of return in investment. Meaning you would have saved way more money if you kept your old cadillac.

@@SemiDad Doesn't matter if the Cadillac was free. The comparison begins at a certain point in time when the Cadillac is already old. So the 2 options are to keep that old thing going which is very easy since they're super reliable. The other option is to buy a brand new monstrosity with over half a ton of lithium cells. So he's gotta save that money spent on the new car since he had the option of keeping something old that would've done the exact same job albeit at a higher running cost for the fuel. It's also far better for the environment to reuse something old than to build something new. Especially when that something new requires half a ton of lithium cells. The amount of mining required for that battery pack alone is in the order of 1 million pounds of raw material. So try to offset that with the gasoline you no longer burn with an EV. Most likely your electricity comes from polluting sources anyway and it very inefficiently gets into your car through hundreds of miles of wiring.

My winters can be as low as -10. Every one I know with an EV tells me they loose range in this weather. I have talked and heard from people who have Ford lightning throw a ranch in the bed and loose miles. How about comparing mileage to s Ubuntu crosstrek or Honda that get 35 plus miles per gallon. Where I live an electric vehicle is just not feasible. I know one man who bought a Tesla, he commutes 35 miles each way to work. His Tesla, because of having to run climate control all of the time averages a range of only 80 miles. He's paranoid that he'll encounter a crash, get tied up in traffic and run out of battery before he gets home. Public chargers are completely non-existent. This isn't what you'd call a wealthy area, and most people don't have the money to buy an EV. There are charging losses of about 15%, and if using a 120 volt charger, this could be loss of more than 20%. So although they do cost much less than gas, you have to multiply the figures by 0.85 to get the real number for cost per mile and use actual driving economy vs what the guess'o'meter tells you it possibly could be in a perfect world. I will save a boatload because it is not subject to the taxes of other EVs due to it being an autocycle. I am not promoting it here because of their awesome promotion that will get me a free Aptera after 30 people purchase one using my code, but because they do and you get $30 off your reservation by using it, why not add this to what I would say anyway. What other car brand does that? Try beating those savings lol. So please use my link below if you found my reasoning rational. If not, oh well. lz953.isrefer.com/go/preorder/a114506

It would be completely worthless to me. I mean, 240 miles?? I have been driving a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis for the past 7 years. I bought it with 87,000 miles on it, in really good condition. It now has 381,000 miles on it, has required almost no repairs, nothing expensive, it gets 32 mpg on the highway because of its overdrive transmission and 2.73 rear axle, and most of those miles have been highway. It has a 420 mile range with a full tank. I paid $7200 cash for the car from a private seller. It is still running great. I fell in love with it. It's big, smooth, quiet, and extremely comfortable. I like it so much that I just bought a like new one owner 2007 model from a private seller, with only 36,000 miles. I paid $10,000 for that one. Between these two cars, I should be set for life as far as cars go. I can replace the engine and transmission in one for quite a bit less than the battery in an EV. No fire danger, no range anxiety, no waiting for it to charge, insurance is very reasonable. I am a recently retired mechanic, and I worked on these cars for decades. I know them well. They are built like tanks, and have very few known issues, none of them serious. I wouldn't even consider a battery powered car.

Even with electricity produced from coal, an EV emits less CO2 than an ICE car, not to mention all the air pollution. Not to mention coal is less than 22% of the electricity production in the USA, and decreasing. And of course you can chose to use 100% renewable electricity, while you cannot buy clean gas. Regarding "child labor", it is only for cobalt, and the oil industry use far more cobalt (in refineries) than the battery industry. And new EVs have LFP batteries, without cobalt. So are your going to switch from ICE to EV to save some children in Africa ? Or was it just stupid arguments because change is too difficult for you, even to save you own children from the consequences of climate warming ?

This is what I was afraid of. $7,500 tax credit, but compared to buying a gas car, your EV depreciation cost is 5-10 times higher than any savings from using electricity and the credit in aggregate. For example $48,700 MSRP - $7,500 = $41,000 but it depreciates $20,000. If you bought a regular Mustang for $48,000 (no credit) you'd still have a $35,000 car :) Everyone got scammed.

I seriously doubt you only pay eight cent per KWh. Eight cents might be what your electric co charges per KWh, but you need to take into account all the fees and taxes. So, take your TOTAL electric bill and divide by the number of KWhs you used and it will probably be in the 18 cents/KWh range. Also, don't forget to add the power from the chargers when/if you took a road trip. BTW, that Caddy gets 25 MPG on the Highway and 18 in city (I know...I have one). Thanks for sharing your story.
@ericmatos1025 Жыл бұрын
So, using his numbers 17mpg for the Cadillac @ $4 per gallon and 240 miles per full charge @ 8 cents per kW he calculated 1/10th of the cost $900 vs. $9k, for 42k miles. Using your new numbers, 21.25 mpg combined @$4 per gal. is 0.8 of the cost $7,200. And 18 cents is 2.25 more than 8 cents so the new cost is $2k. The new difference in cost is $5,200 for 42k miles driven. So a little ove 1/4 or 28% of the cost. Take into account the inconvenience of long charging wait of EV, less range, battery replacement after so many years… electric still only make sense for short city trips.

@@vegaspool188 I’ve owned my car for over 5 years, the battery is warrenteee for 8 years or 100,000 miles and usually they last a lot longer than that.

@@vegaspool188 How often do you belive, evs have to change battery?😁

Whenever they receive damage from underneath, when their capacity drops after a significant period of time (think laptops and stuff, so 8 to 10 years) and/or when capacities of these new hard batteries hit the market @@trumpetscall8910

Don't forget the cost of the extra Gas powered vehicle like Carlos drives when the BEV is charging. It's an expensive accessory to a BEV that people barely mention.
@Ueddyyytube10 ай бұрын
That sounds really good beside ignoring the fact that you have to buy a newer $40,000 battery within 15 years , also how much was the charging station on your home?
@robertkubrick373810 ай бұрын
He also wasn't adding in the costs of his GAS TRUCK that he drives when the BEV isn't charged!

Is the insurance cheaper for the Mach-E? I was looking at Tesla's Model S and in California the insurance 2.5 times higher than my Passat TDI. I assumed it was because they are not easy to get collision repair.
@Nickbaldeagle0210 ай бұрын
No. It's because people drive them like hooligans. 0-60 in 2 seconds is gonna cost more than 6 seconds.

It’s a luxury vehicle. If it’s expensive obviously you don’t have the money

I went with a Model Y LR AWD. 0-60 in 4.4 seconds. I've driven all-electric cars since 2015. Spark EV and then 3 Bolts. EV and then EUV. All Premier trim. Loved the VALUE of the Bolts, but the Model Y (late 2023 build) is just in another league in many ways. Bigger interior, which is great for my 6'4" elbow room, and lots of storage and fast fast fast. I wouldn't buy a Model 3, ever, or an S or an X. The Y is perfect. I tried the Mach E 2 years ago and liked it, but a few things I didn't like were the infotainment system seemed lame compared to the Bolt. I also didn't like that I had to lift my foot to get out of the car, to get over the 3" lip at the bottom of the door. I also didn't like all the piano black plastic - at least in the one I test drove - as it was an instant fingerprint magnet. But, I did like it, overall, and if the price was better I would have probably gone for it. But I'm glad I waited and ended up with the Model Y LR AWD. 318 mile range, (though they claim 330 on mine, they just changed it to 318 on newer builds, even though it's the same exact car). And about 250 real world at an avg of 70 mph on the highway. The Bolt EUV would get about 190 at the same 70mph avg. So it's a serious increase in range from the Bolt to the Model Y Long Range.
