I have to admit Cantonese food is one of the best in China. Although i still really love Xinjiang/Uighur food from my parents region. I think you should really consider visiting Urumqi and see Central Asian / Turkic style Chinese food. It's definitely underrated and not as well known in the west. Cantonese people have a large diaspora so you can get their food everywhere.

8:30 You forgot to add sweet soy sauce to your claypot rice. The soy sauce will bring the dish to another level. 1) Try frog claypot rice. The frog tastes like chicken. 2) The Chinese would add hot water to the pot to finish up the burned rice.

I grew up on Cantonese food and I have to say, you hit all the right local dishes except maybe the last one. I think you were going for general tso (or general tao) chicken which doesn't exist in China or any authentic Cantonese restaurant. But, there is sweet and sour pork though (咕噜肉).
@YTStopCensoringFreedomOfspeech Жыл бұрын
It's western style of cantonese food that favors stir fry and deep fried nonsense. Authentic cantonese is healthy, my guess is throughout the ages, the people realized steamed, boiled was the best manner of consumption. Based on science, it is, as it reduces consumption of accelerated glycation end products and carcinogens which speed up aging and development of problems like cancers. Even the deserts which favors beans are a complex carbohydrate which is superior to simple carbs like sugars. The more I research traditional foods, it really shows me that without psychoactive compounds like sugars or caffeine, if you listen to your body. You will select healthier choices naturally.

I don’t gain weight from eating so much because of so much walking and the hot weather. Those dim sum you were eating looked so gooood ! And that mango, tapioca in coconut milk and the black sesame dessert are my favorites!! Yummy 😋
@士雪 Жыл бұрын
When you went to Nan Shun, you should try double skin milk instead of black sesame porridage. Clay pot rice should be eaten hot with the special soy sauce provided. You should eat the rice in the middle first, then the top part and lastly the crunchy bottom. Or you can eat the crunchy bottom part with some tea mixed with it. The mango saga dessert that you try. The chef gave you tea to cleanse your mouth after having so sweet saga dessert, you know. After I tried all food in all places in China, I agree that the best food in China is in the Guangdong. Also in Hong Kong.

My Dude Sly, hate to tell you sweet and sour Chicken or General Tzao’s chicken is a fake Chinese/Cantonese dish, or it is a Americanised Chinese dish. The original version of the dish was sweet and sour pork or 咕噜肉 (gu lu rou in Mandarin)there is also sweet and sour ribs 糖醋排骨,even sweet and sour fish 糖醋鱼/松子鱼 which I believe you had in Suzhou but there is no sweet and sour chicken and the one you had in this video was not a proper dish, I believe the cook just improvised on the spot, that’ why the chicken was not deep fried. Anyway, chicken is probably the most popular ingredient in Cantonese dishes, one of the most famous Chicken dish is probably 白切鸡,Plain chicken with Soy sour and Ginger mush, this way you can truly taste the chicken, don’t get fooled by its name though, it is not a simple dish to cook, the chicken needs to be steamed and bathed in ice water multiple times to reach a tender yet firm texture. You probably don’t have this in the US, I have never seen them in the UK either. It is probably not for foreigners but it is definitely a staple for Cantonese banquet.
@Gingerbit-bk3df Жыл бұрын
Omg, you got the clay pot rice. One of my favorite dish ever. You got to mix them cruchy rice in the bottom with the soft to get its full taste and texture. Enjoy your video though. Hi I enjoyed your videos. But I’m afraid the restaurant you had rice with pork and cucumber seems not Cantonese but from Northeast that you can tell from its door header. I’m not Cantonese either but I love Cantonese food and I ate them a lot. Here are some must try Cantonese dishes that I think many people like me would strongly recommend you to try😅, like Cantonese roasted Goose, cha siu, roasted squab(it’s really delicious though sounds a bit scary😅), pineapple sweet and sour pork(Gu Lu pork), stir-fried rice noodles with beef, steamed rice noodle roll, pineapple bun, walnut bun,… all very delicious.You can find them in the dim sum restaurant or people call them Cantonese tea house easily. 😊

The last disk you searched for is not called "general chicken (宗棠雞)" in China, it is called "Gu No" Meat (咕嚕肉) in Guangzhou or "Sweet and Sour Pork Ribs" (甜酸排骨) in the rest of China... And yes the chicken was replaced with pork ribs - don't ask me why😛Guess it's the tradition.
@zippo718 Жыл бұрын
Sweet and sour pork ribs is a completely different dish, traditional cold dish from Zhejiang with a thicker, darker sauce (almost burnt). The more modern fast food version that's like Westernized Chinese food is 糖醋排条 (sweet and sour pork strips). But what he ordered was neither that nor 咕噜肉, which would have bell peppers, pineapple, and of course pork fried in batter first, and never cucumber). He got some fast food version of a chicken stir fry.

The sweet and sour chicken from the states you won’t find in China. Some Chinese-American dishes you commonly find in the states don’t exist in China or they’re loosely based on a particular Chinese dish but won’t taste much like what you’re used to. They have Gung Pao chicken here, and a sweet fried chicken dish that tastes like orange chicken, but like the dish I think you were looking for at the end is usually made with pork. You’re about as well just to try different things and see if you like it or not than to try to find something you may already be familiar with. Also, get or see if your translation app has live translation so you can translate the menus and sign.

the Brits smuggled tea plants out of China and setup plantations in India and Sri Lanka/Ceylon and spread elsewhere. no objection how you drink it with milk, honey, or sugar, nevertheless, it is a bastardized version of tea drinking. LOL Dim Sum - Dim is pick, Sum is heart. Dim Sum is pick at your heart's delight. Americans simply called everything dumplings, we have a name for everything, and we used different flour for different dim-sum. glass noodle is made with Mung bean flour. you can spend your lifetime in China and never taste all the Chinese cuisine. food is part of Chinese culture.

Bruh, general chicken or sweet and sour anything is a Chinese American dish. Although, there are similar dishes that can be found north east of China, where there are a lot of sweet and sour flavor used. Generally, Cantonese foods are light in flavors., as you’ve already discovered. I gotta give you props for having an adventurous palate though. Plan for a trip to Taiwan though. ✌️

I just read the history on the origin and inventor of the dumplings. It is pretty interesting that they have been part of Chinese cousins for a very long time. However, dumplings aren't from Guangzhou but from Changsha. I really like this video. I can now see that shop-sticks help you to eat at a normal pace and eat less. I am looking at that red clay pot and it is like what gives birth to China(the plates) we use to serve food around the world today. Thank you, sir.
