Imagine having a full set of these to play actual chess but then you put little prizes in each piece. Then you hold a chess tournament and at the end each player opens the pieces they've captured and keep the prizes.

The puzzle kept like that at the start of the video is such a cool optical illusion. Until you move your hand around it, it feels like the perspective of the video has changed and we're now standing. So very cool. 😊

I have these! My favorite is the Pawn. A unique/cool mechanism to solve! The Knight, Bishop, Queen and King use similar mechanism but with an added step progressively. The Rook is interesting, the top came off mine too! Not welded/secured strongly. Do NOT use superglue! trust me

I think the pawn was my favorite. The distinct points between the steps as opposed to the first and second part being almost simultaneous. It sadly set a high bar for the rest of the series that made the final ones a bit underwhelming. Still, nice looking pieces for a desk or shelf so not totally dismissive.

Oooooo very nice, I have all of these chess puzzles on my desk right in front of me right now! Personally, I actually like the pawn the most haha the solution is more unique than the others and I prefer the sequential discovery style of it. I felt like the king should have had more parts like that

I don't get the point of puzzles that no doubt cost a LOT (set is about 150 dollars...) and can be finished in a matter of minutes by just following the only moving part in sequence. And after that it will collect dust on a plank.... replayability is zero

Shelf pieces and conversation starters. For example, if you have a desk job where you receive clients, and you notice one of these catching their eye, you can just have it as an innocent little diversion here or there to break the ice.

Would be cool to have a whole chess set of these but it would be hella expensive! All the pieces (2 rooks, 2 knights, 2 bishops, 1 king, 1 queen, 8 pawns) for the black side would cost a total of $459.64 (USD)! The silver set would cost a bit less at $408.60 (USD), so $868.24 (USD) total without factoring in tax, shipping, and whatnot.

They seem a bit to brute force-able and far too similar. You would think they would figure many people would buy them as a set, so they would make their solutions as different as possible. Last year I watched Chris Ramsay do a video on puzzles are similar to ones that you are doing this video they were a bit smaller. About the same size as your regular standard chess piece pieces. They also had small coins in them. I'm curious to know if the way that they were set up in the same with the ones you have are set up. And how they're opened and stuff.

If it's your puzzle, you decide what level it is. Doesn't mean others will agree with you :) The manufacturer would also have a say and might change the difficulty to fit in with their expectations.

As always, Hanayama looks great... But that is all you get. If I had selection of 9 videos of solving hanayama and 1 solving a 3d printed packing puzzle, I'd select the 3D printed any day. Had you included hanayama in the title, I'd never even bother clicking the link. Luckily, we are all different, right! :)

Is anyone else triggered by the fact that they would make the rook a difficulty of one, the same as a pawn and the knight and bishop higher at a 2 when a rook is more powerful than both. And then they made them in a way that didn't correspond to their actual difficulty level. These are really just show pieces.
