Jason is actually one of the most interesting characters in the game. Not personality-wise obviously, but it's interesting in how his behaviors sync up with the player's behavior as well. As time went on, Jason actually wants to kill people and blow shit up just the same way the player also wants to blow shit up, which eventually turns him into wanting to become a monster and a warrior to the island because he is so engrossed in his new lifestyle that he doesn't want to go back. It serves as a nice deconstruction into the mindset of a player character. If someone is really into the violence the same way he does, he would be so detached from reality that he couldn't see anything but violence. There are no other characters in Far Cry 3 that are just as interesting as Jason. Sure Vaas can steal the show with his personality, but Jason is the one with the character arc. He's the one whose story have actual meaning and progression. To say "We all know that he's the least interesting character" is just wilfully ignorant of his actual story. Personality doesn't always make a character great.

@SE_Lin6 жыл бұрын
I haven't played 4 but I didn't catch that political stuff in 3. To me, Far Cry 3 was about the human condition in regards to survival instinct. It's character growth. Jason says he won't kill or doesn't like it at first then the island and Citra's tribe (probably more so Citra's tribe...) slowly turn him into more of a savage that enjoys the killing and mayhem. The end choice of the game is so blatantly clear about the message of the game, killing Lisa and fuckin' Citra is the uber edgelord non-canon ending of the game. It could have been done better because as soon as you get a weapon as Jason you're a killing machine capable of clearing full outposts. The skill trees do a decent job of portraying the shift but it's on the nose and not convincing if you take it really seriously. Would have been better if it was an RPG system that rewards for performing actions and allows you to build your character that way. Not saying there wasn't political stuff btw, I just couldn't see it and I'm usually pretty good at sensing if a game is getting political.
@annatardlordofderps91816 жыл бұрын
"Loaded" was hyperbole. Mainly this is a shit-take at polygons expense. Far cry 2 is set in an African nation in the midst of a proxy war creates by western powers. Far cry 3 radio makes homages to Hanoi Jane (I could be mixing this up with 4) Far cry 4 the Ajay is in contact with a CIA operative which suggests western powers are propagating the prolonged civil war. They're simple homages and inferences. Please don't hit me.

Right at the end of the game, the camera goes third person and your character looks directly at the camera and says, "this whole time I have been suffering from an eating disorder." A single tear rolls down his or her cheek. The credits roll. But what's this? Instead of music playing over the credits, we instead hear a book on tape version of "A Handmaids Tale" by Margaret Atwood. An image of Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch repeatedly flashes on the screen in a pulsating strobe, encircled by copies of "Slaughterhouse Five" by Kurt Vonnegut. Then, as the credits end, something truly meta occurs. The game itself communicates with the player. It comes out to you. This whole time, it was struggling with feelings it kept bottled up inside. "I guess society expects you to be a certain way," it says, "to like a certain kind of person." The game walks onto a stage in a crowded auditorium to give a TED talk about the effect of international trade on the third world. A red curtain closes. On said curtain is written one simple message in the finest Helvetica font: Please spay and neuter your pets.

When KZbinrs go at each other, but then Rags ups the ante with a poll within the first 60 seconds, get the popcorn folks... or bones.
@johnathannelsonento20406 жыл бұрын
Except that polls are not a representative measure. Read up on polling error and leading questions (i.e the fact that the first three responses were the one the poller wanted ie no which puts an answer in the poll taker's head). Also since he polled his own followers, they are more likely to favor his opinions.
@RAGErkgk6 жыл бұрын
Johnathan Nelson Ento but Rags' followers didn't know his opinion on the matter prior to this video. Also Rags' fanbase is of a large variety of differently thinking people. Ofc the poll isn't absolute, as Rags says in the video, but a good reference nonetheless.
@johnathannelsonento20406 жыл бұрын
RageTV 100 the opinion can be gathered from the framing of the question. Even though a group has a wide variety of opinions they can share a bias, especially if they hold a person in positive regard. The bottom line is that polls are kinda bullshit and can be easily manipulated by sample selection and question framing to produce whatever result you want. Something they teach you in Elementary Statistics. Polls are especially prone to error because of the reasons I mentioned. I dismiss it as any kind of "evidence". I get it. Rags wants some kind of numerical metric to back up his opinion, but he did kind of manufacture one. I like Rags too, but the only way to keep someone honest is to call them on their bullshit. Had he framed this as his own opinion, I'd have no issue, but he frames it as if his opinion is the prevalent one, and there is just no real way to ascertain that.

As someone who lives in Montana I was kinda confused at how many black people there were in the game placed in Montana. It's rare to see a black person outside of a major city or a college if we're gonna be honest. Pretty sure we have a black population of about 1% of the total, which is even less than you may think considering we only have a million people in all of Montana and twice as many cows.

Downward Thrust failed to deliver neutral sensible content when I subbed him 8 months ago. I unsubbed him soon after that. He would make videos criticizing games and game designs even before their launch or for reasons that makes no sense. For example, during that time he slated Prey for firstly being released without review copies and then made a video about how that type of game design cant work in modern day games. Prey is one of the best games of 2017 in my book and the steam userscore is around 90%. Moreover, every few weeks, he would jerk off to the witcher 3 to gain more fanboy subs coz witcher 3 has the most fanboys currently(any game of that level of acclaim does for a few years after their release). Edit : I went to his channel and it seems he hasnt changed a bit. There is a recent video of his slamming Rage 2. I mean, its his opinion obviously, but the reasons should atleast be logical. Rage 2 shouldn't happen just coz the first one wasnt overly popular or a critical hit? Anything that isn't advertised heavily or isn't pop should automatically be ignored then? Mad Max was an amazing game and suffered the same fate as most underselling games bcz of having the same release date as metal gear solid 5 and also bcz of youtubers and journalists like him.

King Duck. He published his review before the embargo ended (which should have been the launch day if I remember correct) because the game was so disappointing that he just had to warn people beforehand. Later he made a video explaining his reasons (game being bad especially for the price) and Total Biscuit had the top comment on that video where he explained why breaking the embargo was bad and what it means to be a critic and to have a working relationship with game companies. I'm quite sure that Downward Thrust pinned that comment and admitted that he was in the wrong. He is not a bad guy, but I feel like he's trying to fight for "better gaming" without having thought what that would even mean. Also according to this video, it seems like he doesn't think things through and gets into some kind of tunnel vision when talking about topics that would require multiple viewpoints and more contextual awareness.

Thanks for the reply, really cleared things up. I still don't really understand quite why the game was embargoed? Were the devs being sleazy? Like I said, I got away from gaming and KZbin at the time and I've never heard of a review embargo being implemented and I'm pretty curious.

You can debate with Caesar in New Vegas because the game is supposed portray the Legion as a morally ambiguous, well intentioned, effective, and ruthless faction whose ends justify the means, and your character can disagree with that. The evil cult in Far Cry 5 is so batshit cartoonishly villainous that there's just no point to debate with them because it will never work.
@Wittle_Boyo6 жыл бұрын
Actually doggo, the game did make a direct mention of North Korea on the radio as you drive a car that directly explains why the cult thinks the end of the world is coming. It's not just a name drop either, it actually does explain a lot of the story that you'll see in the last couple hours of the game.

@Shafterr Жыл бұрын
Honestly the game isn’t a political commentary. It’s a commentary on religious zealotry. I also think Joseph Seed is one of the most compelling antagonists in gaming, maybe even fiction. Greg Byrk was incredible with his portrayal of a sympathetic and deeply damaged, but still supremely dangerous man.

A silent protagonist is an empty vessel for the player to take control of. it was my voice when I pushed the phrase rather than someone else's voice. That's the only thing I did not like about Fallout 4 there were less choices to choose from the text dialogue.
@whatayaDO5436 жыл бұрын
Except the far cry franchise does this poorly with no dialogue to choose from nor why you lack any god damn common sense to attack while an enemy is rambling, this is why talking protagonists work for far cry, so players don’t have to use their common sense because it’s about the PROTAGONIST perception of what to do, not the player as he teabags some poor dead body
@redseagaming78326 жыл бұрын
whatayaDO543 I know it's one thing when your outside the cutscene the character you're playing as in Far Cry 4 is silent except in the cutscenes or when somebody is talking to you. Sometimes I want to have breathing room so I can think and I hate it when the character says the opposite of what I'm thinking.
@whatayaDO5436 жыл бұрын
RED SEA GAMING that’s generally the point, every god damn time a villain talks in far cry 5, im like” man, I’m a trained recruited deputy with some experience in the field, I could easily escape this but I’m sure my character has a motive” - but then I realize my character is a mute freak.... which makes my protagonist’s intentions vague, but even more stupid then if he’s just either clumsy or dimwitted because at least I have an actual excuse then some lazy cop out
@redseagaming78326 жыл бұрын
whatayaDO543 also there was a high chance that if you didn't like the voice actor or you didn't like how he said a particular line the vocal protagonist can become annoying or worse someone you don't care about. A silent protagonist is not there to talk it's there to represent you even though they might refer to you as a particular person in the game you are the player the game acknowledges that. That's what I call the game giving you respect that way you can think for yourself. sometimes I have to tell people use your imagination if the character doesn't say anything.
@whatayaDO5436 жыл бұрын
RED SEA GAMING “using my imagination” again this the problem, without the protagonist being his own person, we the audience aren’t made up of clones, we can quite literally imagine every little scenario off the top of our head, it gets more daunted when a video game player is an actual veteran who knows how to get out of situations similar to this... in the end silent protagonist isn’t a really a perfect way to go unless he is his own character like Gordon freeman or master chief, who are basically gods and badasses

"Why Rage 2 Makes No Sense" Implying that companies don't go back to older and less popular franchises to give them a second chance. Like, Nier Automata came out even though the original was niche as fuck, and that game was pretty successful, right? Making Rage 2 is probably the best thing they could do because if it's successful, that's one more franchise that can bring them a bunch of money, and it fills a niche that other id software or Bethesda IPs don't fill. Downward Thrust is a meme.

griffin oppenheimer just so you know the left likes to focus on politics while the right conservatives don't care about politics and just want to live our lives. Conservatives want small government liberals want big government conservatives want you to keep your money liberals want to raise taxes to take away your money. Conservatives try to correct society's Norms on the individual level while liberals try to correct problems on the external. Conservatives for the most part speak the truth while liberals will change things and not talk about the good things unless it's about the left. The conservatives want free market the left wants it to be a controlled Market. Conservatives are about freedom Liberals are about taking Freedom away. I'm just trying to make a point here that not all conservatives are crazy. Conservatives are not racist they are trying to make life better for everyone not just blacks or any other race everyone. The Liberals have been demonizing conservatives here for years that is a fact.
@griffinoppenheimer97996 жыл бұрын
RED SEA GAMING well both parties limit individual freedoms, the left likes to control what people can and cant say and a good portion of the right wants to introduce religion into politics, allowing homosexuals to be fired from their jobs based on their sexuality or denied the ability to rent a place to live. Abortion is also a limit on individual rights from the right hand side, and as much as Republicans hate welfare, they sure like corporate welfare. No single party has all the right answers in my book. Libertarians want a free market, Republicans are fine with government issued monopolies to large corporations so smaller businesses cant thrive.

I really enjoyed Far Cry 5, the only bad thing was that the story really wanted to be told. Oh what's that, you're playing the game doing a side mission? Oh because a prisoner van came in during the middle of it and you rescued them filling up the milestone, let's interrupt the side mission to give you plot! The story is a mixed bag since there are four villains and they stick to their regions. The moment you go to Faith's Region, Jacob and John don't get mentioned and vise versa. However when it came to politics in this game, I can tell that they are parodying everything, just light jabs to the shoulder to make you laugh and they were funny to see.

Honestly the guy confusing Jacob for John sums up my issues with 5 perfectly. With the way the plot is setup with doing random disconnected activities until you are forced into a story mission the villains get almost no time to develop or interact with the player to the point where I didn't even learn all their names. The best example of how the story failed that I can think of from my own playthrough is during one of their boss fights one of them says something along the lines of "You're just doing what Eli tells you to" which caused me to blurt out in complete confusion "Who the fuck is Eli?!" because I legitimately had no clue what he's talking about. Another very goofy example is when I got shot with a knock out dart and kidnapped while I was flying a Helicopter far above the ground.

Neo, funny how liberal is often in the US associated with the Dems. And in Europe liberalism is often refered to the middle and depending on which country you are social liberalism is more leftleaning to what everyou want without harming another, and the economical liberal who are support the companies in their strive to be as less restricted by consumer protection and saftey laws. classical liberalism has no real side but sides with the idea of Voltaire or Locke "to reduce the governmental influance on the society as much as possible in all fields in order to reach personal freedom without infrigeing others". That idea can be interpreted as pro gun (the government has no right to take firearms away or regulate them heaviely) or anti gun (firearms are an to easy way to infringe on others rights and we see that all the time therefore they should not be legal for anyone to own). This showns quite well that the orignial idea can be constructed for both arugments. That is why in many contries liberals are seen as "fence-sitters" not agressive enough to stand for their opinion. @PC Master Race that is only true for the US. right and left are more often seen as conservative and progressive. but that might only be my exposure to local politics

If doom guy told everyone what was morally right every 5 seconds then I don't think the fps genre would be nearly as popular as it is today.
