I still contend this is the greatest live guitar solo of all time. Outstanding performance sir

I agree - I've always loved this solo. And it was an outstanding job nailing it down!

its not the greatest live guitar solo for a number of reasons. Firstly, its not live but it the splicing together of at least two solo and possibly studio enhancements. Second, i used to listen to this solo all the time and it was never the greatest live solo.

What’s really outstanding about this solo is that there is not another one like it, and he improvised this solo, and all the others every single night! Great job!

Parts of it are improvised but it tracks the version on the album in a lot of places.

Good job! This JP solo reminds me of a jazzy saxophone solo with its tight repetitive patterns and long phrasing lines, and those bends also give it that sax flavor. Well done!.

Watch his dazed and confused live part 3. Five minutes in I was laughing so hard from joy. I couldn’t breathe . To finally see it. Was great. I missed live Zep concerts but Jimmy. Solo after ward s paid 800$ a seat treated my friend front row center. And wanting to these leads played. But he was so. F up. He couldn’t play any leads. It was heartbreaking. But I got his pick. And he never gives them out. I paid roadie. 20 $ still have it. And I snuck camera in . But now after all these years. I get to see the leads played.

On that night in 1973 .... pre H Page was in a zone to end all zones. I don’t know if it was 3 to 4 years or 3 to 4 minutes, but there was some period within that era when Jimmy was THE top Axe slinger 🎸on the planet. That ‘73 MSG, NQ solo alone is proof. Thank God it was captured for all of us to enjoy and study 51 years later.
