As a 73 year Cape Codder I have watched the wealthy buy up what was some of the most prestigious wetlands in all of North America destroying much of the ecosystem that harbored so many varieties, birds,fish, clams crabs and the list goes on, as a child I used to run the beaches with a dog going from Chatham fish pier almost Harwich we would swim the cut through ending up at Hardings beach or Cockle Cove. The rich built their expensive large houses where the first Cape Codders knew better than to build, destroying some of the richest wetlands an put up no trespassing signs all over the beaches. I’ve been watching the Ocean’s rise for years the rate continues exponentially many places at mid tide that were dry now flood and you can see it encroaching by the number of dying coastal trees. Bye bye fools! Soon, sadly but you can’t beat the one in charge!

I've lived here my whole life, I'm 58. And have seen how much damage the rich have done to Cape Cod myself. Awful but the water coming up up up is even worse. The water comes all the way to the top of the rocks at the Canal and they have already made the rocks come up ten feet all the way on both sides of the Canal. Just wanted to let ya know I'm with ya on that.

Hello my fellow friend Cape Codder, I grew up in Chatham but as a young child my father would take us to Popponessett the wetlands there were so rich with clam’s, fish and blue crab’s that in an hour you had more than enough! Then came Chase from the Chase Manhattan bank who in reality stole the land from “old age” I don’t remember the tribal name I believe he paid less than a dollar an acre, probably wrong on the actual amount, then on top that because of his connections which I certainly could elaborate in much greater detail had the core of engineers dredge “destroy” the richest wetlands in North America! Then sold the acreage off at such a phenomenal profit that I won’t even attempt to put a figure forth. Speaking of the rich. They plunder and leave in their wake devastation, their day is coming sooner than………

You see wealthy land owners pleas in the face of climate change as a denial of reality. It is a shame that assumed status was “supposed to be secure for all time” but genuine experience in the face of climate change is that the changes are accelerating and to deny that means one is stuck in time saying, “This can’t happen to me! Fix it somebody!”

I’ve lived on Cape Cod for 58 years and do a lot of shore fishing. The Cape seems the same to me although I would never build a house on the beach. That’s just foolish.

Right, beaches erode, always have and always will. I've been watching the changes on Cape Cod and Florida for 80 years. Some day this beautiful glacial sand pile will be washed into the sea. Humans didn't do it and Humans won't save it.

Who among us ever considered nature to have been mastered by humanity. ? A fool's errand to even attempt it. It's only reasonable to assume and know that any coastal properties directly on or in close proximity to "the shore" run a significant risk from uncontrollable/angry seas. One of the reasons we love our oceans is due to their sound and power. It's also the primary reason to respect the seas. Erosion? What about Continental Drift?
@bruceb5481

A sensible comment. Sea shore erodes; period! To your point; plate tectonics is the bigger issue here. Stop continental drift now ! Tee shirts and posters coming SOON .😂😂😂

I was born and raised in Sagamore, Mass in 1966 an the cape cod canal was our backyard.I used to fill a big trash can 55 gallon with lobsters in about an hour with a piece of frozen squid on a fishing line.But I've personally seen how much the Cape has changed. The water comes over the main roads here in Falmouth even without a storm. I've seen at least 50 yards of missing land everywhere on the cape if not much much more. We are sinking into the Ocean at an even faster rate. I'm 58 an I have a 24 year old son an lived here my hole life but I don't think my son will be able to live here as long as his parents. Very sad. If only the big-wigs would stop ruining our planet the planet is going to die Again.

Why can’t we in this country bury used Christmas trees in the sand it helps to create new sand dunes. They use this technique in Ireland. Composting will help. Soils help reduce and remove carbon. Cleaning the plastic out of the ocean can help. Over fishing needs to end to. Areas who want new trees can work with the Arbor club in their communities. Trees are vital they are the lungs of the ecosystem.

The Cape and Long Island are terminal moraines from the last glacier and are only temporary in geologic time. I live on the shore in a house my parents and Grandparents have. The sea level hasn’t changed a inch. The high and low water marks are the same they have been for the last hundred years. How about the over building on the Cape. A rain drop can’t fall that barely doesn’t hit a building or road. Major hurricanes hit New England about once every hundred years . Last one 1938 . We are due and all we will hear is climate change caused it. The Cape has been noticeably eroding since the first Europeans settled there.

@@masescranton9630Totally false. Yes islands sink. Coastal areas sink and some rise. Sea level rises with ice sheet melt and increase in temperatures. Even the most famous climate change deniers of the past now believe its true. The evidence is today unquestionable. Now they only argue about the costs of addressing its issues.

Well... If they had been PROACTIVE with erosion control, via establishing dense brush and native grasses and vines back in the 1970's, chances are the problem would have been greatly diminished. It was and is successful in Manomet in one area of high bluffs.

Near the end, the narrator said, "people cause climate change". I beg to differ. Corporations caused it, aided by our government. And both knew since the 60s. Also, I was surprised at no mention of the AMOC slowdown - that will certainly accelerate the misery index for all the Atlantic coast.

MAybe you should include in your discussion why the Orleans Town Cove inlet migrates 2 or 3 miles norht and south every 50 years!! Me thinks it is natural, like erosion!! Man can not, does not and should not control everythng especially regarding nature. BUildings were built in areas that 70 years ago that appeared stable. NO one asked Mother Nature!! While being sympathetic to conservatio work, one must also recognize everything we have had, and things we habe today, aree the result of change many years ago!!
