It seems a lot of gymnasts are in that mind set and very mature. Plus less injuries and higher quality of the movements too. Probably because the former coaches are removed from the program and the sexual scandal came to light. The one thing that bothered me the most was the camps that took away the parents from being protective of their child. A predator’s playground.

If I remember correctly was it that she did poorly or was she disqualified because of the 2 person per country rule? I feel like she had a good showing, but she was overshadowed by the politics and icy reception from a specific teammate who became the new darling and basically made her old teammates freeze her out during that Olympic cycle.

People really acted like she didn't deserve her spot she was the 2015 world silver all around medalist behind Simone that says she was still a contender and a great asset to team usa

It's even more sad when a certain athlete literally posted a monkey emoji online towards her and people turned a blind eye to it due to controversial comments Gabby made before and because they felt like "it was warranted since Gabby shouldn't have been on the team" despite her being the reigning Olympic AA champion smh. I could go on but there's no need to. I'm just glad she found her love for the sport again and I pray people will treat her better this time

She's right about the ageism in Women's gymnastics. I remember watching Cathy Rigby and Olga Korbut growing up. Women gymnasts were done by their late teens or early 20s they competed in college. Not anymore.

Agreed and comebacks were rare we had 3 from 92 compete in Atlanta but after that 2 in 2000, but from 04-12 no one, it wasn’t til Aly in 2016 that things started to change on the Olympic front

Gabby was mistreated by the USA Gymnastics coaches and doctors along with a horrible racist campaign that smeared her because the world couldn't take both Simone and Gabby being on the podium while Aly was there. First, the USA Gymnastics cleaned house of all the perpetrators of abuse, then at the last two Worlds, USA Nationals and NCAA Gymnastics Finals, Black Girl Magic happened when gymnasts of color swept the podiums! Gabby who has always had excellent form can now avenge herself for what USAG and the world did to her. I think derangers are learning their lesson about mistreatment of Gabby or any other athlete because when Simone got the twistties and pulled out, USA was put on the same level playing field as Russia and Brazil while their chances of winning sunk by a large margin aka 3 to 5 points ahead of the nearest team. Plus, USA got an open handed slap across the face when the women's football team purposefully lost at Worlds because fans wanted to act belligerent because key players like Rapeno protested for equal oay and the LGBTQIA movement! If Simone can be all over the internet loving up to her husband, why can't Rapeno be with the woman she loves. If the USA wants medals, they need to stop sticking their heads in the sand! These elite athletes are no longer taking abuse from staff, doctors, sponsors, fans and derangers! People need to check their "phobias" and get on with it! Plus, we Boomers, Xers, and Millennials will ride shot gun to keep haters in their olaces! Gone are the days of Nadia and Marry Lou, where gymnasts did what their coaces said. Hello to the fact that now generation of women can be masters of their fates!

Please don’t discount Nadia and Mary Lou. It’s not color of skin it is about who is the best in competition no matter what race the gymnasts are. I dislike when people make everything about race. Seems to happen often if it is a black person who doesn’t win. That said I like Gabby, I hope she does well.

@canadasweetie My issue with Nadia, who was abused by the Karolys, is that she still has kept her mouth shut and refuses to talk about her time in Romania in order to help reform the Romanian gymnastics, which is now suffering. My issue with Mary Lou is that she has questionable morals. Because of her being white, she basically was picked over Dianne Durham, who was done dirty by USA Gymnastics. Then, she never really kept up with Dianne, who died of cancer a few years back, and whom Mary didn't go to her funeral. Mary divorced her husband about five years ago and got a $2 million settlement. A few years later, Mary doesn't have money for healthcare but has supported the Republican party openly for years. Get the picture? Mary can't get off her arse to support Dianne! But hey, because of her Christian values, we are to support her with Gofundme! She got millions in her divorce settlement and supported the Republican party, which destroyed public healthcare while allegedly not being able to buy insurance herself! Are we really supposed to have respect for her achievements when she has little regard for her teammates and has zero aptitude for understanding politics that actually hurt the public and herself? She has zero accountability and is a good example of gymnasts growing up and not having proprer coping skills in place!
