In Islam we always strive harder to not break a marriage, and instead of focussing on wether women has right to refuses or not, Islam focuses on her duty or responsibility to not refuse.

This by no means allows for the situation where the husband can force himself onto his wife. If the wife refuses for reasons other than health or menses and the husband is accepting of the the reason and is not going to sleep unhappy then there is no fault on the women. The fundamental point is when getting married the wife has implied rights over her husband such as care, protection, money etc. Likewise the husband has implied rights over his wife. One of them is the wife being sexually available. Just like the man can’t just one day wake up decide he’s not going to be financially responsible for his wife is as he would be violating the rights of his wife likewise if the women was to withdraw her husbands rights (of being sexually available) she is violating the rights of her husband. Not a very difficult concept to get your head around.

Ironically, if that same husband was to cheat on his wife to meet his needs, then these same people would be up in arms telling the woman to divorce and that the husband destroyed the marriage. The wife was the one who destroyed the marriage in the first place, as were the people who caused fitna between marriages. It's worth noting this curse does not include the wife who has legitimate reason, whatever it is. In a healthy marriage, the husband would agree to the reason, whatever it is if there is one. But if there is no reason and the wife is just seeking to make the husband suffer for some selfish reasons eg. to get 'back' at him, then the angels curse her. This is such a basic reasonable thing. Would there be any controversy if the hadith said the husband who does not talk to his wife is cursed? The reason there is controversy is because these people have an irrational hatred of men and see them as the cause of their problems. Which is how and why these people have killed marriage ultimately making the women in their societies suffer.

Just think of this: theres a difference between someone saying no to intimacy for a reason (even if that reason is just that they don’t feel like it)…v.s *WITHHOLDING* intimacy to get your way or affect your partner’s behaviour. Again, the West continues to create problems it did not have before because women had a choice to respect her husband and represent her family. If not, there would be consequences. This is disingenuous. Muslims are not allowed to touch their wives when they are menstruating. It's unhygienic, which unfortunately for some women it's when they are most interested in sex. So men Islamically must show restraint, but this can not be as a punishment by the wife. Again, it is a 2 way street. YES, it is abuse. My ex denied me intimacy for almost a year at a time. Not that I asked for it often, but it’s something you expect your man to want from you. As a woman, mentally and emotionally, I felt neglected and unwanted or that there was something wrong with me. When I eventually left and found the courage to talk about it, my mother was the first person to explain that that was abuse, and i agree, it was. It was a form of torture and control because he knew that he could go out there and get it from anywhere but he was the only one for me.

The point that Br.Ali made where he said that a women is entitled to the protection of her husband if she is being attacked was a great point, and relating that to the rights that a man has over his wife was brilliantly done Islam is clear, the women has rights over a man, and a man has rights over the women. Everyone has their biases and experiences that lead to their conclusion. You and I know other things in Islam, so it's easier for us to relate and see how this is the way it is. Whereas they are coming with their own POV and they see them being right. For example, you and I have the clearcut instruction and command that men are the protectors of the woman. It's a must. While it may seem stupid in a modern day perspective or may seem associated with sexual abuse, it's great to add on that in a relationship if your partner isn't giving you intimacy then he/she isn't your partner. They're simply using you.

One point that wasn't brought up is when there is a married couple with children. - It is much more difficult for a married couple to break up with kids. - They both begin to take the children into account. - It so happens sex decreases when children enter the picture. - If a woman begins to feel less attracted to her husband, her sex drive decreases do to health or physical changes, her priorities change and sex falls very low on the list, or for any other reason short of no longer loving her husband and wanting to stay married, this places the male in a very difficult position for which society has zero empathy. Brother Ali has done a decent job here, but I believe the hadith is more directed towards the point I indicated, a situation where they have fallen out of sync and what he failed to bring up, the other responsibilities that keep them married. It isn't as simple as the first woman wanted to make it, then just divorce, and Ali accepted her argument. It becomes unfair for the husband to find himself in a marriage he can't/shouldn't leave because of "sex" but if he wants his needs met, he needs to marry a second wife if he's able or cheat or live a sad life of self relief with or without porn. Here we find a type of warning to women to not neglect their husband whom they love and have not been given a reason by him to not deserve having his physical needs met. Basically a check to her to take him into account and prioritize accordingly. And this is for the well being and continued cohesiveness of the marriage, it is not to "force" her, or give him "rights" that obligate her, over her body.

As much as I agree that there’s a degree of entitlement on both sides especially in a relationship. I’m finding it hard to understand the two isolated events you explained as examples. I’m referring to the situation where the wife’s life is in danger and since men are physically stronger than women we are entitled to obviously help her. And in return since men have a higher sex drive, the woman or wife is entitled to satisfy him. These are very different situations that need to be dealt with in completely different ways. In contrary if the wife is refusing all the time because she is no longer interested in him , then obviously it’s a situation that is self explanatory and that relationship is no longer healthy. Women like these don't understand that a lot of their rights or entitlement are being met. It's all provided for by the government. Protection through the police force, monetary wellfare, drainage, plumbing, lights, etc. can all be provided for to women that they now have this perception that they don't need men when really the truth is that they rely on all of men collectively to provide for and uphold these services they depend on. Only valid reason you mentioned is if she is on her period. Sickness is irrelevant for most people, the vast vast majority of people are not medically ill to the point that their sexual desire gets eliminated. Even if they get a fever it lasts a couple days then they can get back to normal.
