Boat repair videos like this are my favorite Huub videos. Fortunately you still were able to find and use your old school tiller to keep you going although you would need to rethink how the auto steer would work with it. 🙂 I am always amazed that when something breaks you are able to find someone to help you fix it. Really enjoyed your underwater shots. Thanks for sharing.

Oh man. That scene of boat twister or two person boat yoga brought back memories of the spring for me. Stuffing box on my sailboat is impossible. I thought I was going to need to hoist myself out with halyard.

Nice to see you get so up close and friendly with your neighbour... you had him in quite a compromising position, I wonder if that's why he left the moorage in a flash? 😂

It is a little boat , rip out the wheel , use a new quadrant for the autohelm . Nice thing about a tiller is it can be flipped up out of the way at anchor to make more room in the cockpit . On top your emergency autohelm back up can then be a cheap tiller pilot .

Crossing the Pacific on a somewhat "iffy" boat maybe needs a bit of a rethink? I've lived, worked and sailed in the Pacific, from Australia to Fiji to Tahiti and back, and I'm telling you, it gets lonely out there! And if things go wrong, they always seem to go wrong a thousand miles away from anywhere! In the meantime, it's always fun (and educational) watching you getting yourself get out of potentially harrowing situations.

Do be careful about your rudder and any damage it may have sustained. There is a solo sailor with an Alberg 30 whose rudder fell off on a passage in the Pacific. He had a heck of a time steering his boat with drogues. As for the quadrant I discovered a similar problem quite by accident aboard SunShine while in Sri Lanka. The U shapped bracket on mine was nearly completely broken through on one side. Since it is a bronze casting a local machine/fabrication shop was able to weld it back together. In addition I had a whole new U bracket fabricated from steel. I have been using that since Sri Lanka w/o problem. You can look on e-Bay for used quadrants. I found one for SunShine but never bought it as the fixed and new parts solved the problem. May all your troubles melt like lemon drops.

Take water jugs when you make shore trips. Even a few extra gallons of fresh water at a time can make life seem easier...same with fuel too. I'm not sure how you get your water and fuel. Haven't seen you fueling or watering up.

The steering system is basic maintenance on a boat and you’re playing with fire by ignoring it. Ok I understand out of sight out of mind but you should try a little harder for your safety and the safety of your crew.
