Yeah, people who overtrain are too busy having to rehab, recovering from illness, treating symptoms. Of course people who worry about it do not overtrain, why would they? That's the whole point of keeping it in mind and training smartly. Overtraining is not an accomplishment, not a state you want to end up in lol. You have a recovery capacity, if you exceed that and eat a ton and sleep a lot, you will just be an overtrained fat guy.

@jimbones1558 жыл бұрын
Overtraining only means you are doing more than you need to in order to progress. This is far different from training so hard that you experience an involuntary reduction in the level of intensity you are accustomed to, or what are called "bad days". This state of being can persist to the point where you become stagnant or sick and require several weeks or months to recuperate. Not only the muscular system is affected but also the neurological and adrenaline systems. This malady can creep up on athletes and go undetected unless they or their coach knows what to look for. Saying there is no such thing as overtraining is a bit cavalier.

@jimbones1558 жыл бұрын
I did, but it's complete mumbo jumbo.
@beastini22898 жыл бұрын
He says multiple times overtraining is real, but that most people won't train hard enough to truly overtrain to the point of being unable to recover. That most peoples recovery aspects of nutrition, sleep, and stress levels just are cutting it. He says beyond that if all those are in check and you still aren't recovering then you probably need to lay off the training of a little bit.
@jimbones1558 жыл бұрын
I disagree 100%. Most people do overtrain, but are not aware they are overtrained, they simply continue on the same path in a state of involuntary reduction in intensity due to overreaching. This is largely due to the fact that most people are unaware of their body and what it feels like to be in that state or condition. It's great to just say if your overtrained you need to lay off, but he doesn't define what being overtrained is.
@beastini22898 жыл бұрын
I do agree with you to an extent. People do overtrain but at a level they can fix that with controllable recovery variables such as diet, sleep, and stress level. Most people won't overtrain beyond that point to where they literally can't use those variables to recover. In which a deload week would be needed or possibly more. Again I agree that most people would not be in tune to that and should just take a deload on a schedule instead of waiting to crash and burn. Chad Wesley Smith the owner of JTS preaches about sub maximal less stressful training to mitigate overtraining and frying yourself.

This is the rare time that I’m going to disagree with you Doc. Health professionals have actually seen a dramatic shift in overtraining diagnosis. Gone are the days of competitive athletes overtraining. This is likely do to the increased rigor in observing them and tailoring their training. However we are seeing a substantial increase in middle aged non athletes, specifically unemployed married women. Many attribute this to the growing popularity of boot camp style training due to the high correlation with participation in that group.
@ericviana88938 жыл бұрын
Anyone know if recovery times are negatively altered when you mix training types? I cycle 5-10 hours/week and use weights about 8 hours a week. I know the physiologic adaptations for hypertrophy and endurance training are fairly opposite (in terms of mitochondria and angiogenesis) but do the opposing adaptions increase/decrease recovery times?
@bobjenkins49258 жыл бұрын
+Eric Viana it should depend somewhat on what you're conditioned to, and what you're switching to.
@cdubb24478 жыл бұрын
Cardiovascular training and muscle trauma are two distinct matters. Ultimately, the intensity dictates the rest period, but weight training elicits much more damage, so pay attention to recovery from the weights. Side note, when you perform weights (more anaerobic) vs higher intensity endurance training (aerobic) the body will favor adaptation towards endurance and you'll be stripped of strength and size gains. I'm not sure what your goals are, but you're training to get bigger, too much higher intensity cardio will hamper the results.

Long-term weight loss moves the likelihood around in my experience. In prolonged energy-limited conditions, it seems like injury and overtraining alike are both more likely. To combat that for myself (down -132lbs from 2014, this has been a long ass cut) I take a couple of higher calorie days in a row with about 25% more of my standard macros, take those days off the gym, seems to get little aches and lagging-recovery body parts taken care of and I can get back at it at a high pace.

People who make the claim that overtraining doesn't exist should legally be stripped of their right to give advice since they obviously don't know shit about training. THERE IS such a thing as overtraining. How doI know? I was overtraining for the longest time and NO that's not an opinion. It's a scientific fact. I have everything to back it up. Blood pressure tests - blood pressure high ( normally low ) Blood tests - deficiency of vitamin d amongst other things like b12. Resting heart rate - evelated by a margin to say the least. Serotonin and dopamine levels way down. Mentally exhausted. Constant state of anxiety and depression. Pains and aches everywhere that wouldn't go away. Stiff as a damn plank - naturally very flexible can do splits. Extremely low libido. - naturally horny all the damn time. So take it from a guy who's been there there IS such a thing as overtraining.

What if my muscle is sore on the day i wanna train it...does that mean its not fully recovered and i should wait longer, e.g if i do a full body workout on monday and wanna do it again on wednesday...can i train if my muscles are sore
@personperson95918 жыл бұрын
You can train if sore, yes. Having DOMs doesn't mean you're overtraining, but there are reasons for having too hard of DOMs and where it can make you suffer if you don't address it. Foam rolling can help with DOMs, as can active-recovery between workouts (as in, if you do a full-body workout mon, and want to do another one wed, you'll be better off if you do some sort of mild activity like walking and stretching at the very least on Tues compared to sitting around doing nothing, as the bloodflow will help recovery). If you're giving your muscle groups 48 hours to recover, for the vast majority of folks that should be plenty enough and won't be overtraining those muscle groups.

Go ahead and overtrain and spend twice as long as someone who is smart training which will take less time. Your body can only take so much before it needs time to recover. And this is where PEDs come in. You can go ahead cheat as well, and risk damaging your insides trying to recover faster. 4 two hour sessions no, but i've heard of TONNES of olympic athletes mostly gymnasts and divers who train 8 hours every single day and are fine because there diet is on point the intra supplementation and all the other stuff is on point and they force themselves to have an 8 hour chunk of sleep and nap as often as possible. stalin had a select group of soliders he doubled there world from it went from 6 hours a day to 12, and olga korbut was a gold medal gymnast and she trained 12 hours 6 days a week and improved. hell i've done this for a month justto prove a point and did bi's one day tri's the next and they grew and were stronger and leaner but i was ontop of everything at the least i could of thrown in two more meals a day but i was still going good. i feel regardless of how much sleep i get the days i hit a very high protein count i feel like i can train all day and carbs are protein sparing so why wouldnt they have ANY anti catabolic effects? hell even if i have70g of carbs from vitargo with 20g of essential amino acids every two hours during each of those four two hour sessions i'm sure i could do it, but i wouldnt be deadlifting in all of those sessions everyday and improving, noit because it's overtraining it's because i cant eat enough and sleep enough to support that amount of stress, well can but arent willing or cant afford too. just my opinion though

Never Defeated Athletics "no such thing as undertraining" Sure it's the topic but the statement is clickbait.
