If your planet is low-oxygen, why not use an air vent (set to depressurize, mounted out) and an O2 tank and have unlimited air? You could also setup an emergency cockpit with an air vent in case you run out of breath. Oh and BTW, lightning is attracted by antennas.
@snipusmaximus2 жыл бұрын
I was going to say the same thing...i generally do that anyways on even on rich O2 planets too because any ice would not get diverted to O2, which maximizes hydrogen use from ice
@snipusmaximus2 жыл бұрын
Also lightning is attracted to decoys too, so placing a few decoys would be good if/when you get that far in the tech tree, slap on a heavy armor half block on top so that way lightning doesn't penetrate the armor
@Deathbomb92 жыл бұрын
Theres a mod that makes antennas lightning rods. Mostly the lightning is a bit random. Also, I'd likely play with the damage from weather off. But it would be nice if they could make it to where you have to ground a grid during a storm. Like having mobile grids hooked to static ones to avoid damage and if an engineer is in the open they take a good bit of damage but if they are in a base then the damage is minimal. Minor if they are in a ship, and the ship takes damage if it's not grounded. That would be a pretty cool mechanic to see worked in somehow. If not, then I'd just have weather off myself till I wanted to die over and over lol.
@unclegreybeard39692 жыл бұрын
Lightning actually targets the character, antennas & decoys act as lightning rods, each hit to your character will take away 80% health and has an area of effect for about 2.5 blocks in each direction, the best defence is an underground installation.

31:15 - when you are dealing with the power involved in a bolt of lightning it will conduct through really anything. It is more effective to guide lightning in the direction and path you want it rather than attempting to employ materials that block it. This is the entire concept behind lightning rods. Also, From what I understand cars in particular are reasonably safe in lightning storms because the metal shell of the car guides the lightning around you and down through the tires to be dispersed in the ground. It is less likely to harm you in a car because it is not flowing through you. It is flowing through the body of the car.
@joshnabours91022 жыл бұрын
@@manitoba-op4jx No. Not in general and not for lightning. The fact that you can answer your phone and text in a car shows how they do not act like Faraday cages at all. Phones don't work in a Faraday cage because the cell service signal is blocked by the Faraday cage.
@joshnabours91022 жыл бұрын
@@manitoba-op4jx It is more of a pet peeve than anything honestly. I just don't understand why the common analogy is a Faraday cage when a better and more accurate explanation would be that the frame of the car acts like a lightning rod. I mean, what could be a better analogy than a lightning rod for why a car is reasonably safe during a lightning storm? How did such an obvious analogy get overlooked?
@joshnabours91022 жыл бұрын
@@manitoba-op4jx @manitoba2445 technically pretty much all forms of EMI shielding are essentially a ground wire electrically isolated from the thing you are trying to protect. The shape, current capacity and designed purposes of the shielding are the big differences between them. The EMI shielding in a Coax cable would be just as good of an analogy as a Faraday cage because it surrounds the wire to protect it. Coax cables are not a good analogy for how the frame of a car protects from lightning by surrounding you either though. It is an example of what I would call a "brute force" analogy. They are only similar on a surface level. The closer you look the more different they are. Functionally it is the equivalent of saying the chevy blazer from the 80s is no different from the new blazer because they both are trucks. Yes, they are both technically trucks/SUVs, but only one of them is capable of towing things and going off road. The other is a fancy looking van with better emissions and fuel economy.

All I was thinking this whole time as the screen is flashing red and you have an airtight building and the O² is low but present is why not put a vent on the outside and set it to depressurize and fill your tank. so i am just starting this series (way late i know) and am greatly looking forward to it. in regards to your unfortunate luck with lightning destroying all your rover tires, i decided to ask chatGPT about a theoretical in regards to lightning and higher gravity planets. i thought one of its points was interesting and applied here. ill paste it below! ChatGPT - Intensity and Energy: Lightning in a denser atmosphere might be more intense. With more atmospheric particles to ionize, the energy discharge of a single lightning strike could be significantly greater, making it more dangerous in terms of thermal and blast effects.

Next question, why didn't you start by the lake ? The first thing in Real survival is resources, you build close and Water(ICE) is a Key resource. ... also about your Door, Add a vent that decompressions back into the main room so it sends air back into the main room, not out the other door when open it. ... good stuff keep it up

This is pretty much how difficult the game should be to start. My biggest concern is that Pertam's weather is very OP, however. I've had lightning kill me 3-4 times within 20s...ill respawn, run out BAM! over and over. Or it'll strike right above me, when im 100m under a mountain. idea: make a 1 block corridor between inside and outside doors. grate on floor allows you to walk over, but blower decompresses the short corridor back into the base's room. Airlock doesn't lose air anymore from entry/exit. In case of storm, airlock can be pressurized.
