I went to the Olympic Stadium to see Mohamed Farah win gold at the 10km distance. His sprint finish, the crowds reaction cheering and pushing him on, his celebration afterwards in honour of his friend Usain Bolt, the energy around the stadium was electric. For all those reasons and more, I'll always remember the 2012 Olympics fondly. He will go down as one of my favourite track and field athletes and not just because we share the same first name :P

I've been noticing the successes of the NB athletes at the US Oly trials too. All 3 in the Women's 1500, and Sydney McLaughlin WR in 400 hurdles amongst others. Nike seem to have a lot of people convinced they are the only show in town (biggest marketing $$) but it's not really the case. Hey Edd - loving the Running News as always! Gonna have to be the fly in the ointment & say I'm not sad Mo Farah didn't meet the Olympics qualifying time. Its time for other athletes who have dedicated themselves wholeheartedly to the 10km over the last 4 (well, 5) years, rather than a man who left the track to go to the marathon, didn't have it go his way and who suddenly wants to return in an Olympic year. He achieved all he needed which is why he left in the first place. Better that UK Athletics support young athletes rather than add an event to Manchester to give one person an extra chance to make the time that he failed to make in Birmingham a few weeks earlier. The Mo Farah story in the last two Olympics was fantastic, but it's time for someone else to have a chance at their writing their own story now.
