I went to the Olympic Stadium to see Mohamed Farah win gold at the 10km distance. His sprint finish, the crowds reaction cheering and pushing him on, his celebration afterwards in honour of his friend Usain Bolt, the energy around the stadium was electric. For all those reasons and more, I'll always remember the 2012 Olympics fondly. He will go down as one of my favourite track and field athletes and not just because we share the same first name :P

Most of the Brooks Beasts seem to be in concealed Nike spikes. The Air Zoom Victory are targeted at 800/1500 for elites with the Dragonfly for 1500 and above. Got both (of course) LOL. At my speed the Dragonfly worked well enough for a 400.

I've been noticing the successes of the NB athletes at the US Oly trials too. All 3 in the Women's 1500, and Sydney McLaughlin WR in 400 hurdles amongst others. Nike seem to have a lot of people convinced they are the only show in town (biggest marketing $$) but it's not really the case. I think there's less difference between these brands in terms of product than many would believe (with the exception being the headstart Nike had with the OG next%). And that's good for everyone.

Hmm… Marketing doesn’t win races, and spotted adidas, ASICS, NB and Puma on the feet of many top speed athletes at the USTAF Oregon meets. It’s nice to see a lo-key silhouette though. Ultra-athletes are amazing… insane (but amazing). I cannot my head around the pace. Wow! The abbreviated and extended training and seasons wreaked havoc on so many sports. We’re seeing what must be a frustrating end to quite a few careers. ✌🏽💙🏃🏽‍♂️

No, exactly, marketing doesn’t win races and this a is prime time case of marketing doing what it’s supposed to- and that is make money and instantly elevating themselves above other brands, rightly or wrongly! It’s saying we are that good that top athletes wear our shoes even when we don’t pay them to and you just know the next craze will be de-badged, understated styles……….
@sneakerprofiler

@@mawilliams777 good points. adidas makes understated shoes... it's kinda their thing. NB could be in trouble... they love making "loud" running shoes. I can't see the tiger stripes coming off ASICS. I see this as a short-lived publicity stunt. ✌🏽💙🏃🏽‍♂️

@@mawilliams777 maybe. 'Was not questioning whether or not it's effective. But I would this is the new wave of design "We're so good we don't need a logo". This is a publicity stunt that likely only works for the first company to do it. It's not a trend-type move. Also, it won't matter if people see adidas, NB, ASICS and/or any other brand on the highest podium step. Other companies are catching up or passing them and all Nike has in response is a marketing ploy? 'Not a good look. ✌🏽💙🏃🏽‍♂️

Hey Edd - loving the Running News as always! Gonna have to be the fly in the ointment & say I'm not sad Mo Farah didn't meet the Olympics qualifying time. Its time for other athletes who have dedicated themselves wholeheartedly to the 10km over the last 4 (well, 5) years, rather than a man who left the track to go to the marathon, didn't have it go his way and who suddenly wants to return in an Olympic year. He achieved all he needed which is why he left in the first place. Better that UK Athletics support young athletes rather than add an event to Manchester to give one person an extra chance to make the time that he failed to make in Birmingham a few weeks earlier. The Mo Farah story in the last two Olympics was fantastic, but it's time for someone else to have a chance at their writing their own story now.

@@EDDBUD I think it's that old thing of people not being able to accept when to leave and no longer being at the top of their game. It's sad really because they only run the risk of ruining the legacy that they had. @@Dave-kq9cv glass fiber is a common additive in plastic injection molded parts to add rigidity. Glass (fiber) filled nylon being one such example that is widely used. I had previously heard reviewers say it feels like plastic, so when the brand rep said that it didn't make much sense to me. Maybe fiberglass but that would seem to be too hard, but a glass fiber filled plastic would make sense for the application as a cheaper alternative to carbonfiber.
