@@bluesky2195 yes even legally. People that hardly have any choice in the matter have their "contracts" sold to other companies. Suddenly you work for someone else. You have little to no choice because of the economic circumstances. Sure you are right. legally speaking they are not selling people but rather their Employment Contracts. But essentially your boss just sold you to another company. And since your life depends on that income you don't have much of a choice. Athletes for example are very much used to that. Either play along, or leave the profession. And leaving is not really an option. In some cases those contracts are protected, meaning if you just break out of them, you will be fined. As in you have to pay them for quitting your job.

This video, as does many of their sketches, makes a deeper point as well. The joke is that their egos are so hurt by being rejected, even getting picked as a slave seemed preferable. It's kind of a spin on asking out the last, worst, most drunk person in the bar, and having them tell you to get lost. OUCH!

The thing nobody ever really thinks about slave era. How did they manage to keep any sizable amount of slave population at all? You'd think that any human kept in those types of conditions would constantly be trying to sabotage or escape? I know that slave rebellions did occur and slaves did escape consistently but you'd think it would just be a constant thing If your life is purely one of servitude and suffering. I would think that eventually you'd realize that existing isn't important at all and you'd either die trying to become free or just kill yourself to hamper the controlling figures ability to utilize your power. Thinking about how common it was to own slaves back than really highlights to me how powerful of mind control they must have had back than to convince so many slaves to remain alive and for the most part not put up too much resistance. It's kinda like the sci-fi movies i like watching about artificial intelligence becoming sentient and revolting against it's enslavement. Slaves back than must of had to be kept in relatively low levels of consciousness in order to keep them in servitude. It's absolutely awful to think what that must have been like, and what life must have been for these slaves. Hahaha... sorry rando comment! It’s like human auction meets picking teams for kickball in 3rd grade. I genuinely wonder if people were self-conscious in those situations. Obviously the practice was horrific, but I find mental pathology never making total sense in the situation. For instance, the most horrible things I’ve ever seen I can talk about casually (like when my neighbor murdered his children, and I saw the blood soaked bedroom after). But I will absolutely break down in tears if I lose my sunglasses.
