Hi Conor, I’m not a farmer and never intend to be, but have been thrusted into a situation that I need to take on a large garden without having ever used a hoe. I’ve managed to quickly amass a large amount of piecemeal garden knowledge here on KZbin, but what I really enjoyed watching in your video is simply not how to “do-something” and enjoyed your philosophy towards your approach and understanding land cultivation, thank you for sharing your wisdom. Sub’d from Berkeley✌️

I have been listening to your youtube vids for the last two days while I work. SO educational!!! In the next year/two, I'll be relocating to 5 acres I purchased in SE Oklahoma. It's been a productive hay field for probably 15-20yrs, I don't think it has ever been tilled. Since i bought it, I have simply had a trade with a fella - you mow, and keep the hay for your cattle so I don't have to pay for maint. My goal is to gather enough knowledge to prepare it properly and start small. My cousin (next door) has horses, and this weekend, she built a huge area to begin a big manure/compost area for me. Learning so much already! :) Def. going to invest in your courses, but will need to wait until next season. TY for sharing!

Zone 8a. I have to get the physics right first. I have to use a rear tine tiller for my heavy clay soil to help mix in about 3 inches of expanded shale with about three inches of compost and mix it into the soil. Loving the course!!

No till! You have to get your biology right in the soil and from heave clay will become good loam soil. You are fighting a losing battle when you till!

Hi Conor, you mentioned mixing sand in red dirt to provide air in the soil. I live in GA and this red clay can get harder than a brick. Its our first time growing and I want to know if there's anything we should do with the soil as we get started? I have separated a 50' X 96' section of my 1.27 ac lot...
@NeversinkFarm2 жыл бұрын
If you mix just a little sand with pure clay, it will get harder. You must add vast amounts of compost to begin to break up the soil.

Best analogy of clay particles I've heard. Most young people have never seed a wet pile of newspaper. The big phone books and "monkey" Ward catalogs are all a thing of the past.
